On Beyond the Gates, Leslie said that Vernon's departed father, Fairmont Crest founder Paul Cheeks Dupree, must be rolling over in his grave at Vernon trying to exclude her. Despite Leslie's increasingly menacing demeanor, Vernon reminded Leslie that she had started the animosity, and he refused to back down. Leslie looked hurt watching Vernon leave, then turned around to find Eva, who had witnessed the parting. Eva found her mom's feud with the Duprees ridiculous; Leslie concurred and stated that she had every right to be in the community. When Eva countered that Leslie had purposely bought property across from Anita and Vernon to annoy them, Leslie rejected Eva's suggestion of diplomacy and stalked out.

At the Dupree mansion, Bill was surprised to hear that Anita wanted him to function as co-executor of her estate and to assist Vernon, who would be too grief-stricken to settle her affairs. Bill was humbled and called the appointment an honor. Later, Sharon sensed that Anita wasn't feeling well and convinced her friend to lie down in her lap. Vernon came home while Anita slept; after Sharon exited, the awakened Anita announced her decision to install Bill, expecting a fight from Vernon. But Vernon realized that the move made sense and gave it his endorsement.

Dani and Nicole shared wine at Uptown, still processing the fact that Anita had almost given up on her chemotherapy. Both sisters spoke of how they'd shared the news of Anita's improvement with their ex-husbands; Dani mentioned Bill thinking of his own mortality and how he had told Hayley he had changed his mind about having a baby. Nicole felt that opened the door to a possible reunion with Bill and asked Dani how she felt about it.

Following her vow that she was happy with Andre, Dani said that she was enjoying her friendship with Bill – and that she actually had Hayley to thank for it. As Nicole expressed amazement, Dani winked that she was “the picture of personal growth.” Still, while Dani was perplexed by Hayley being okay with not having Bill's child, Nicole cited her own experiences with miscarriages and guessed that Hayley might be too scared to get pregnant again. It wasn't long before both sisters surmised that Hayley could either have faked her reaction or was simply happy leeching off of Bill without the need for a meal ticket child.

Hayley was passing Bill's door at the law firm when she overheard Lynette thanking Tomás – and by extension, Bill – for getting her embezzlement case dropped. Tomás asked what Lynette's immediate plans were and seemed to become flirtatious when Lynette talked about partying. “Don't play a player,” Lynette warned, catching on to Tomás's angle. “Is that what you are?” Tomás replied. Before Lynette could answer, Hayley stormed in and accused Tomás of crossing the line. Tomás retorted that Hayley herself had mixed business with pleasure when she was having an affair with the married Bill.

After sending Tomás out, Hayley demanded to know what Lynette was doing. Lynette initially pooh-poohed Hayley's concern, but soon saw her point – with the case closed, Tomás had probably been trying to get information about Hayley. “That's the last thing we need!” Hayley exclaimed as Bill walked in. Lynette and Hayley played it off, but as Lynette left, Hayley made sure to mention Tomás's inappropriate behavior. Bill fumed, saying that Tomás wouldn't be stupid enough to step out on Kat.

As Darlene watched, Izaiah tried to convince Naomi to let his mom use the burner phone Jacob had given Naomi so Darlene could hear for herself that her son was all right. Naomi became upset, thinking Izaiah wanted Darlene to have that conversation in case Jacob didn't make it home alive from his undercover assignment. Izaiah got hung up on after Naomi balked that letting Darlene contact Jacob could put him in danger. After Izaiah explained about his failed plan, Darlene agreed with Naomi's viewpoint, which left him feeling like the bad guy.

Darlene comforted Izaiah by letting him know how much she appreciated his gesture. Then, Eva entered the diner, and Izaiah introduced her to Darlene. But Darlene couldn't leave fast enough and barely acknowledged Eva on her way out. Izaiah recommended that Eva give his mother some time to get to know her. However, Eva silently implied she knew the reason behind Darlene's chilliness.

Smitty returned to the alley, where Jacob explained that his working with Grayson to get Max to safety had made him and Grayson closer. Though the lab tech hadn't given up any solid information, Jacob said, the way had been paved to find out who Grayson's contact was at the hospital. Smitty recognized the difficulty of Jacob playing double agent with Ren and Grayson and offered to check on Naomi, since Jacob was unable to. Jacob was grateful for Smitty stepping in.

After Ashley tried to get her to open up about why she was distressed, Naomi accepted Smitty's invitation to lunch, only to fall apart when he was sympathetic to her multiple worries. Naomi felt silly for breaking down, but Smitty put forth that Naomi could spend time with him, Samantha, and Tyrell at the brownstone, especially with Martin gone so much campaigning. Naomi liked the idea.

When Ashley was confused as to why Grayson thought she might get hurt, Grayson backtracked and alluded that she might be disappointed by his stress over his mother and his exceedingly busy schedule, which didn't leave them much time to see each other. Ashley was understanding.

Then, Lia approached Grayson with a directive – she needed him to start volunteering at the clinic. Though they had originally ruled out the clinic as a source for blood plasma, Lia wanted Grayson to set himself up so he could study the situation there. Grayson resisted, since Derek was the general manager and their relationship was frosty due to Grayson dating his ex. Lia thought Derek might be useful; after Grayson said that Derek was too clean to be recruited, Lia smirked that everyone had a price.

Grayson stepped onto the elevator and placed his latest supply of blood plasma at a disguised Jacob's feet. But before they could talk, the lift stopped, and Ashley boarded, with Jacob bowing his head in an attempt not to be recognized.

Beyond the Gates airs weekdays on CBS and streams on Paramount Plus.
