Here's what went down Thursday, May 14, 2026 on Beyond the Gates when Donnell got some sneaky links, Anita got booked, and Mona almost got to moanin'.
What happened on Beyond the Gates

On Beyond the Gates, Vanessa chipperly entered the casino's back room; while she was bummed that daughter Deanna was still ghosting her, she was at least gratified that Donnell was home for the cotillion. While discussing the gala, Vanessa was saddened, thinking back to how Doug had been so into the formalities of helping Donnell master being an escort and Deanna's journey toward becoming a platinum deb. Joey listened as Vanessa muttered that she couldn't find Doug's cufflinks to let Donnell wear.
Changing subjects, Vanessa revealed that she had made some inquiries through her real estate connections and discovered a list of homes bought and sold by Joey's absent sister, Heather, which could help Joey find her. Joey exploded, raging that he hadn't asked for assistance in tracking Heather and that Vanessa was only trying to fix up his life because she felt guilty about the way she led hers. Vanessa stormed out, sending her papers flying.
Vanessa met with Donnell at Uptown but wouldn't say why she was upset, instead asking about Deanna's welfare. Donnell reported that his sister was doing better; Vanessa sighed, with all the talk of cotillion, that Deanna was probably reliving her own début and her memories of Doug. Just then, Joey arrived, which turned Vanessa cold – but Joey was there to loan Donnell a pair of cufflinks given to him by a beloved favorite uncle. When Donnell turned down the gesture, Vanessa privately chastised the boy, nearly crying that she needed the people she loved to coexist.
I want you around

Randy was at Orphey Gene's for breakfast when he saw Mona arriving for a pick-up order. “Oh, hell,” he said to himself; Mona came to his table, snarking that he must be hiding behind his menu out of a guilty conscience. Randy surprised her by offering for her to join him, and Mona had to admit that the sight of him licking Lynette's fingers during their last meeting probably wasn't the worst thing Randy had ever done. Mona was shocked when Randy took her own hand, seeming to imply something romantic.
Mona rebuffed Randy, calling herself “a woman of substance,” though the two did share a laugh about how extra Leslie was. When Randy wondered why Mona was bothering with a “roughneck” like himself, she replied that perhaps she saw something in him that was worth her time. Randy declined when Mona invited him to come back to church with her, shrugging that it was too late for him, but Mona remarked that, though Randy had “big strong muscles,” he could let the Lord do the heavy lifting for him.
Randy returned to the casino, telling Joey that he had the info on Smitty that he wanted. Joey countered that he had already found out for himself that Smitty was investigating the blood plasma ring and instructed Randy to keep surveilling him. Randy was then surprised by the arrival of Donnell, whom he warmly called “nephew” (Randy and Donnell's father, Doug, were best friends), though he hoped the college student wasn't there to gamble. Donnell clarified that he wanted to talk to Joey, and Randy gave them their space.
Donnell apologized for his reaction to Joey's cufflinks, and Joey assured him he wasn't trying to replace Doug – in fact, after his own father's terrible treatment of him, Joey had decided he never wanted kids. Joey did suggest to Donnell that they could be friends and was willing to let Donnell take his cufflinks home while he decided whether or not to wear them. Donnell picked up the box they were contained in on his way out.
Health is wealth

At the Dupree mansion, Vernon came down to find Anita all dressed and ready to go out. She announced that she had been able to fast-track her post-chemo follow-up so she wouldn't have to keep waiting to find out what the next steps were. Vernon felt that Anita could be rushing her progress, but Anita was ready to get back to her life and wanted answers now.
Once at the hospital, Dr. Bauer informed Anita that they would first have to do new imaging to determine just how much her tumor had shrunk. Before getting on to surgical possibilities, Anita wanted to know when her hair would start growing back; Bauer predicted 3-4 weeks, though it could be a couple of years before it came in fully. Then, Bauer presented Anita with her options: a double mastectomy was standard for someone who carried the BRCA gene mutation to prevent the spread of cancer cells to the other breast. For that reason, Anita needed to contemplate having her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed as well.
Were Anita to have a simpler lumpectomy, Dr. Bauer went on, Anita would have to have a lymph node biopsy during the operation to ensure the cancer cells hadn't spread, plus come in for regular radiation following, though that wasn't nearly as brutal as chemo; she would also need frequent scans to monitor for any relapse. After weighing her options, Anita decided to go for the lumpectomy, though it was protocol to wait for a month before surgery. Anita was frustrated by the delay, but Vernon reminded her of all the things she could do in the interim, which included cotillion, foundation work, helping Chelsea and Madison with wedding plans, and attending Martin's political fundraiser.
The Duprees saw Mona getting off the elevator; Ms. Wilson told Anita that she wanted to set up a “cancer care team” with her church that would help patients with spiritual guidance and support, or even just supply them with company while they underwent hours-long chemo sessions. Anita was all for the program and made herself available to help.
Trap waltz

At the country club, Nicole tried to soothe Samantha's fears about the cotillion by regaling her with stories about how terrified she'd been when she came out as a debutante. Still, Samantha frowned that everyone was expecting her to mess up because she wasn't a real Dupree. As Nicole declared that there was no way Samantha could shame the family, Anastasia sauntered in with Francesca (“Chessy”) and taunted Nicole over being divorced. Nicole clapped back that Anastasia had been married five or six times, after which Mrs. Belleclaire sniffed that “Orphan Annie” Samantha didn't have a chance of being crowned platinum deb.
Nicole followed Anastasia to her table, fuming that she didn't mind her coming for her or Dani or even Anita, because they were grown – but Anastasia was not to disparage teenager Samantha in her presence ever again. If she did, Nicole warned, she was prepared to “lose [her] self-restraint.” Undeterred, Anastasia crowed that Samantha and Tyrell were “two strays [Martin] dragged home” whose mother had only improved upon being a homeless drug addict by slinging hash in a grubby diner. It was unseemly!
Chessy visited Samantha, stunning her by saying she was sorry about her grandmother's actions. But it gutted Samantha when Chessy smirked that her “glamma” had merely committed the sin of poor taste by saying her piece out loud. Samantha countered Chessy's claim that she didn't belong by noting that Chessy had “dumpster-dived [her] leftovers” by taking up with Nathan. As Chessy foresaw Samantha falling on her face at the gala, Nicole was telling Anastasia to go to hell after the woman referred to Samantha as garbage.
Later, Vanessa sat with Nicole and Samantha, remembering how Anastasia had forced her shy daughter, Carissa (Chessy's mother?), into competing for platinum deb. Though Nicole and Vanessa did their best to buoy Samantha's spirits, the teen decided, “I can't do this,” and walked out of the banquet room, and Anastasia allowed herself a smug grin.
Tune in tomorrow when Tyrell makes Samantha cry, Lia turns to Marcel, and “the red market” keeps getting redder.
