Beyond the Gates: Beyond the Gates Recap for May 18, 2026: Samantha got ready for cotillion

Here's what went down Monday, May 18, 2026 on Beyond the Gates when Bill got the drop on Hayley's pre-Fairmont Crest days, hairstylist Eva got a special tip, and the window of opportunity began closing for Jacob.

On Beyond the Gates, Bill was at Uptown, flashing back to Naomi getting ready for her own début at cotillion and particularly remembering how lovely Dani was that night. Hayley had to snap him out of his reverie; she didn't know if he was feeling nostalgic or missing being surrounded by the Duprees, especially since Vernon had been more of a father to Bill than his own had. This made Bill think of Hayley's background, but she dodged his initial probing to get him a drink, making sure to spike it with more poison while no one was looking.

Bill wouldn't let the subject go, however, so Hayley finally told him that she'd had an aunt, a few cousins, and a few friends back in her hometown of Philadelphia, but no one she'd stayed in contact with after she'd moved to D.C. to make a new life. When Bill thought it would be fun to take Hayley back to Philly for visits, she yelped, “You can't do that!” – then tempered her outburst with the revelation that she had relatives who were in and out of prison. Instead, Hayley pressed Bill to go with her to St. Bart's, watching Bill sip from his tainted drink as they toasted to a time they could finally get away.

Playing his role as thug “Rashad,” Jacob received the instruction from Ren to be sure no one “got in” unless they were on “the list.” Ren became annoyed by “Rashad”'s questions, which were prompted by news that “the boss” might take the operation out of the DMV because there were too many eyes on the hospital; Jacob sent Smitty the update by text. Then, Ren got a call from Lia, who reported that Grayson was in place at the clinic – and that the first delivery would happen just before the meeting with the VIPs.

Having been notified by security detail that Grayson was on his way, Ashley let Grayson into her apartment and was stunned when he handed her a binder full of personal and financial information relating to himself and his mother. He wanted Ashley to handle their affairs in the event something happened to him, and he was adamant that Ashley make sure his mother continued getting her medical care. Ashley thought that Grayson could still leave town, but he replied in a panic that “they” would come after his mom if he did. Once Ashley promised she'd see to these matters, she remarked that Grayson was a good man with a good heart, despite the mistakes he had made, which moved Grayson to kiss her passionately.

Derek met with Lia at Uptown and forthrightly shared that he still thought it was a bad idea for Grayson to volunteer at the clinic. Lia was concerned about Derek's resistance and growled that she couldn't have him causing problems for her. Derek gritted his teeth as he told Lia he understood – and as Lia crowed that Grayson had a lot to offer the clinic.

Later, Derek saw Grayson and tasked him with restocking supplies – but afterwards, Grayson got into the locked refrigeration cabinet using the code he'd watched Eva punch in and began stuffing its supply of plasma into a bag. Derek caught him and was ready to call the police until Grayson said he was working with Jacob on an investigation. Grayson swore to the disbelieving Derek that he had to deliver the plasma immediately because his life was on the line – and if Derek stopped him, Ashley would be in danger as well. Derek was speechless as he allowed Grayson to leave with the contraband.

Samantha's female family members gathered at Nicole's house to begin getting her ready for the cotillion. Chelsea reminded the nervous Samantha, “You own the room; it doesn't own you.” The word had been that Anita would not be making an appearance, yet soon she arrived dressed to kill. She admitted she wasn't quite at 100% and that she'd have to take it easy, but there was no way she was going to miss her great-granddaughter's coming out.

Jessica admitted that she was still only taking part in the debutante custom because of her parents, though she was grateful to be included among the Duprees and couldn't deny she was having fun at the get-together. After everyone assured her that they wouldn't be disappointed in her if she didn't walk away as Platinum Deb, Samantha joined Jessica and Chelsea in livestreaming some of their cotillion prep. Though Kat vowed to Nicole that she wouldn't make trouble because of Eva being there, she still sniffed to Eva that she shouldn't get used to attending family events. Eva, who was simply on hand to do hair for Samantha, June, and Jessica, told Kat about her early birthday celebration, which included Ted; Kat scowled as Eva smiled. Later, Samantha surprised Eva with a birthday present of her favorite perfume.

June was self-deprecating as she made her way in by donning sequins. All the women were welcoming, and, while seeing to Jessica and Samantha's hair, Eva showed June a wig she thought would be a perfect match for her look. After her makeover, June was still starstruck by Anita, who let June know that everything cotillion was once new to her, too, given she was raised in the Chicago projects. Dani teased an annoyed Nicole about her Ted fantasies, then saw that Naomi was not fine, as she claimed to be; though Naomi hinted that Jacob would be home soon, she worriedly checked Jacob's burner phone and saw no message.

At the Dupree mansion, the men assembled, and Ted told Vernon that he was pleased to be invited – and that he still wanted to be available to help Anita as she took the next step in her cancer battle. Vernon said it was only natural for Ted to be present to celebrate his grandson's special occasion. Smitty remained distracted; Vernon wondered if he was uneasy about Martin's senatorial ambitions, but Smitty told the patriarch that discussion about it could wait for another time.

Photographer Andre got snaps of everyone, most notably Tyrell, who acknowledged that he remained uncomfortable with all the cotillion doings. Martin and Smitty fussed over him, while Ted told Andre that Nicole seemed off somehow.

As was tradition, the young ladies were to report to the mansion to get into their gowns, after which the debutantes would come down the stairs and present themselves. Jessica surprised Tyrell by sneaking past the commotion to take his arm privately, wanting the full focus to be on Samantha. While waiting for Samantha to finish getting ready, Smitty and Naomi exchanged knowing, anxious glances, and Ted expressed to Nicole that he was glad they were able to share the glad tidings. Then, Samantha made her appearance at the top of the stairs – June was overwhelmed with pride, and Samantha was surrounded by oohs and aahs as she made her descent.
