Beyond the Gates: Beyond the Gates Recap, May 18 to 22: Intrigue reigned at the cotillion, lives were on the line at the warehouse

On Beyond the Gates during the week of May 18-22, 2026, a long-anticipated event turned into a tragic and dangerous night.

On Beyond the Gates, the Duprees got dressed up to attend the cotillion, with Samantha making her way down the mansion's staircase to the oohs and aahs of her family. During the debutante ceremony, Francesca deliberately stepped on Samantha's dress, but Donnell kept her from falling. Jessica's rebelliousness during her own presentation had her parents deeming her an embarrassment, so Jessica took Tyrell to their beach house, where she let virgin Tyrell make love to her.

Deanna arrived to crown the Platinum Deb, which turned out to be Francesca – Anastasia made a public display of her daughter's victory until Donnell learned that the drunk Nathan had swapped winner cards and not even bothered to spell Francesca's name correctly. After the true winner was revealed to be Samantha, Francesca glumly handed over her crown and sash. Deanna's attempt to reach out to Vanessa was derailed when she saw Donnell wearing Joey's cufflinks; Deanna couldn't believe that her mother and brother had been fooled by Joey.

Time for Jacob's bust seemed to be slipping away when he learned that the plasma ring VIPs were planning to move the organization outside of the DMV. Grayson asked Ashley to handle his and his mother's affairs in case something happened to him. Derek found Grayson stealing plasma from the clinic but let him go when he said Ashley would be in danger if he didn't deliver it.

Derek followed Grayson to the warehouse, where Jacob warned him to keep out of sight. Ren identified Grayson as a traitor and demanded that Jacob execute him; instead, Jacob moved to arrest Ren. When Derek saw a gunman sneaking up on Jacob, he rushed the man, which ended with him being shot in the abdomen. Though Lia was under arrest, she and Grayson tried to save him.

Jacob was able to come home to Naomi. After Derek was brought in to the hospital, he told a frightened Ashley that he loved her. Blaming Lia for Derek's condition, Ashley nearly attacked Lia, but was stopped by Jacob. Ashley, Shanice, and the Hawthornes were gutted when Derek died during surgery.

Ren taunted Jacob about knowing the identity of The Impaler, but Jacob didn't want to turn to him for information and risk Ren being released from jail for turning it over. Both Marcel and Jacob separately questioned Lia, but she was unable to help since she had no knowledge of The Impaler herself.

Ashley and Andre each blamed themselves for Derek's death, given their flirtation had separated Ashley and Derek and pushed Ashley toward Grayson – but Ashley went one step further and told Grayson that Derek was dead because of him, even after Grayson owned up to how he'd ended up supplying the red market. Ashley was moved when Dani, alongside Andre, offered her consolation.

Vernon and Anita accused Ted of trying to make inroads with Nicole when he suggested that Nicole replace the disgraced Lia as Garland's chief of staff. Kat was the only one who thought that Lia had killed Lynette in response for draining her retirement money. Hayley continued to poison Bill while feeding him details about her life in Philadelphia that may or may not have been true.

Joey denied it when Vanessa wondered if he'd been involved in the warehouse shootout but insisted that such incidents were why he didn't want her more closely connected to his enterprises. Afterwards, he commanded Randy to get a message to The Impaler since his activities were encroaching on his domain.

Vanessa was taken aback when Donnell began to share Deanna's negative feelings about Joey and Nicole asked her if her relationship with Joey was worth constantly upsetting her kids. Deanna confronted Vanessa after hearing her mom badmouth her, but Vanessa refused to give Deanna another public spectacle and abandoned her. Donnell wanted answers from Joey about the shooting, his businesses, and what had really transpired the night Doug had died. Deanna received a shock when Doug suddenly appeared to her.

Tune in next week when Leslie continues to know what time it is with Hayley, Nicole has a bad reaction to Ted recommending her for chief of staff, and Tyrell wants to talk about sex.
