Beyond the Gates: Beyond the Gates Recap for May 29, 2026: Oh, those sexy sexagenarians (or septuagenarians or whatever)

Here's what went down Friday, May 29, 2026, on Beyond the Gates when Joey got a hand from Bill, Leslie's favorite show was Friends, and Naomi put on Aunt Nicole's psychiatrist hat for Jacob.

What happened on Beyond the Gates

On Beyond the Gates, a grumpy Bill answered Joey's summons and came to the casino, prompting Joey to sigh that he missed “the fun Bill.” Joey wanted Bill to step in because Elon had been making noise about Joey possibly being tied to the blood plasma ring; Joey added that Elon was overcompensating because his son had almost ended up in a body bag. Bill's hand began to shake, but he denied it when Joey took notice of it.

Joey didn't want his name linked with Derek's death, especially since Derek had managed Joey's clinic. When Joey hinted that others could find out about his connection to the Duprees if Bill didn't get Elon off his back, Bill said the threat worked both ways, though he didn't refuse Joey's request to take care of Elon for him.

Martin saw Vanessa at the country club and thanked her for suggesting that Donnell be Samantha's escort at the cotillion. He couldn't believe they were all celebrating Samantha being crowned Platinum Deb while Derek was being gunned down by the plasma syndicate. Vanessa and Martin both agreed that they had to appreciate their loved ones while they were here, because one never knew when they might not be.

Vanessa went to Joey and passed along a message from Jacob: he wasn't going to stop until he took down everyone responsible for Derek's death. Joey reiterated that he wasn't The Impaler, as Jacob suspected, and liked Vanessa's idea to set up a scholarship at the clinic in Derek's name. Vanessa then admitted that she had finally cleaned out Doug's locker at the club, as Derek's memorial had put her in the space to do so. Joey offered to help when Vanessa decided she also needed to collect Doug's belongings from other areas of their house so she could stop feeling like she was living with his ghost, but Vanessa opted to tackle that task on her own. As she poured them drinks, Joey took a call from Randy and learned that The Impaler wanted to meet with him.

Anita came downstairs to see that Vernon had readied any number of gifts for their romantic evening together. Vernon smirked that it was time for Anita to “get back on the horse” and “remount.” Anita giggled, but as she and Vernon melted into a kiss on their couch, Kat walked in and looked like she wanted to wash her eyeballs out with bleach. After she clumsily made her way out, Vernon and Anita had a laugh over being caught and their granddaughter's reaction.

Trying to keep the mood going, Vernon put on some sultry music and pulled Anita into a dance. He wanted to make sure she voiced when things felt right and when they didn't, silently referencing the state of her body after chemo. Anita joked about her still-installed chemo port in her chest, and Vernon was ready to kiss it in gratitude for it making it possible for her to still be with him. As clothes started coming off, Martin entered and had a similar reaction to his sister; Anita offered to go upstairs but Vernon insisted that Martin was just leaving. Martin made an awkward exit, and Vernon wondered if the universe was laughing at him and Anita. She proposed that Vernon take her upstairs and “press [her] reset button,” but Vernon had a better idea – he got them a room at the Bowman Hotel and put the “do not disturb” sign on the outside doorknob.

Kat met with Chelsea at Uptown and ordered a scotch, needing to wipe the image of her grandparents getting it on from her head. Chelsea understood Kat being grossed out, but also found it “aww” that the “Grands” were still interested in romance. Then Martin joined them, also rattled by his electric elders; talk then turned to Tyrell losing his virginity to Jessica, with Chelsea deeming it “pretty baller” that Tyrell had ditched the cotillion to have his first time.

When Martin said that he and Smitty would have to “adult their way” through their children being on the cusp of adulthood, Kat wanted to invite Smitty to hang out with them, but Martin reported that Smitty was finishing up his story...and shocked Chelsea and Kat by revealing that Smitty had been the one to tip Jacob off about the red market. The cousins remembered seeing Jacob in a clandestine conversation with Smitty and worried about how he and Naomi were handling the aftermath of his undercover assignment.

Hayley was enjoying a meal at the country club when Leslie approached, ribbing her about her “little friend” Lynette being gone. Reading between the lines and seeing that Leslie was making another attempt at friendship with her, Hayley told her not to bother, but Leslie retorted that “game recognizes game” – she could sense that Hayley was in it for the long haul with Bill and dreaming of the day she could cash out with his money. Leslie and Hayley traded barbs, but Leslie grabbed Hayley's phone so that she could transfer her contact information to it.

Just as Leslie was saying that Hayley might need a favor someday – like needing somebody dead – Bill came by and said, “Not today, Satan,” when he saw Leslie with his wife. With Bill wanting her to leave, Leslie snarled that Bill could no longer control where she went or when, but Hayley advised Leslie not to make a scene. After Leslie sashayed away, Bill confided to Hayley that his hand was shaking again, just as it had before his stroke. Hayley immediately recommended that Bill be taken to Garland, but she played up the things about hospitals that made Bill squeamish to the point where he requested she make him feel better instead.

Real as it gets

Naomi was sitting on her couch with her arms wrapped around her knees when Jacob came home after having been at the station most of the night. When Naomi wanted to be close to him, he robotically replied that there was still so much for him to do. After Naomi slowed him down for a hug, Jacob remarked about how brave she'd been while he'd been undercover, but Naomi didn't want Jacob thinking she had been a perfect cop wife. She relayed how scared she had been and how she had nearly slipped to her family about Jacob's true whereabouts any number of times. Jacob hated that he had put Naomi in a position where she'd had to lie to her loved ones, but when she asked him how he'd been really doing, all he could manage was, “I'm all right.”

Knowing Jacob was covering, Naomi tenderly said that Jacob had busted the plasma ring and saved the hospital's supply from further plundering. But that was enough for Jacob to erupt that he could take no pride in what he'd done because all he could think about was his best friend taking a bullet for him. He cried out that it had been over – he'd had Ren! Yet he had let Derek into the warehouse and told him to hide instead of forcing him to leave. It was his fault that Derek had died, Jacob announced to Naomi – even Derek's father had thought so.

Naomi reasoned that Brian had simply placed that blame out of trying to make sense of his son's death – plus, Derek had made his own choice to rush Ren's gun-toting henchman. Jacob agreed that he would have taken the same action for Derek – it was just that he couldn't believe Derek was suddenly gone, and that Derek would never find the right woman or grow old like Jacob had a chance to. Naomi knew that Derek wouldn't want Jacob tormenting himself, but Jacob was still too full of grief.

Tune in next week when Hayley doesn't want Bill touching her, Jacob becomes determined to impale The Impaler, and Leslie and Darlene nearly come to blows.
