Beyond the Gates: Beyond the Gates Recap for May 8, 2026: Smitty and Jacob found out who Grayson's contact was

Here's what went down Friday, May 8, 2026 on Beyond the Gates when Andre sidestepped a suspicious phone call, Nicole had double vision, and Leslie's bewigged spectre loomed over Ted and Shanice.

What happened on Beyond the Gates

On Beyond the Gates, Dani walked in on Andre making a cryptic phone call, during which he told the recipient to make an exchange and “sanitize” an itinerary. When Andre wouldn't reveal any details, Dani joked that he must be a spy and made up a story inspired by the claim:

A bell-bottomed Dani (as Bea Guiling), complete with Afro, had a clandestine rendezvous with male underwear photographer Cam Aura (Andre) at Orphey Gene's. In between their intense flirting, Cam got Bea to deliver recipes from the diner's secret menu – after which Cam revealed he was really Andre Richardson, who busted Bea for the contraband. But soon they realized they were on the same side – with Andre being a double agent – and the kissing began...

Then, Andre dreamed up a story of his own:

Andre saw a Southern-accented Dani working behind the counter of Orphey Gene's as a waitress. He decided she was beautiful and that he wanted to take photos of her around the world. But Dani first decided she needed to tell her parents, King Vernon and Queen Anita! She explained that she was really a princess – it was just that on the kingdom's dating apps, “no one could get beyond the crown and jewels.” Dani wanted to be seen for herself, and Andre whisked her away...

Andre was ready to tell another story, but Dani changed the subject back to his phone call. He finally admitted that he had arranged to do a shoot for a K-pop group in South Korea – and he wanted her to come along, since they'd be stopping in Tokyo to see ChelseaKat's show at Fashion Week. Dani decided she had the best husband ever. And y'all thought Andre was being set up to be The Impaler. Didn'tcha. Didn'tcha!

Nicole and Carlton continued their date at Orphey Gene's, where they ran into Food Network personality Sunny Anderson (who also appears on The Drew Barrymore Show). Despite having come to the diner for dessert, they got romantic and chose to run off for a bedroom encounter. Sunny saw the interaction and told the waitress she needed to switch her order up.

Carlton was thrown on the bed by Nicole, but when they started making love, she suddenly envisioned Ted on top of her. She briefly put a stop to things by lying that she had a leg cramp, then slept with Carlton without incident. However, when he needed to leave so he could get enough sleep for an early morning shift, Nicole remembered her flash of Ted and was clearly rattled by it. That came as a surprise, right?

Shanice was icy to Ted, even when Lia made her deliver a folder to him. Ted hoped they could clear the air and explained that he did, in fact, have feelings for Leslie – as in crushing regret that he'd ever had an affair with her. Shanice countered that Ted had slept with Leslie again anyway, knowing what she was about; when Ted reasoned that he'd been drunk, Shanice worried that he'd turn to Leslie if they had fought. Ted conceded that he'd always be tied to Leslie because of Eva, but swore that he only wanted Shanice, who said their bed was awfully crowded. Shanice considered Ted's overture, realizing she needed to decide whether to keep seeing him.

Lia found Ted by the elevator and remarked on the chill between him and Shanice. Ted didn't mind talking to Lia about it since they'd known each other for years, and he divulged that he was still paying for one long-ago mistake. Lia sighed that people only seemed to remember mistakes, but suggested that redemption might be easier than it seemed. Oh no, Lia! We know you're ratchet! Don't even think of trying to redeem yourself now!

Sharp vibes

Grayson entered Jacob's motel room, assuring Jacob that he hadn't been followed – but when Grayson saw Smitty, he pulled a pair of scissors on him. Jacob promised that Smitty was trustworthy; the reporter explained that Max had come to him wanting to bust the red market, and that he had been the one to bring the matter to Jacob. Grayson got nervous and started to leave, saying he was going to pick up his mother and get out of town, but Jacob threatened to arrest him if he took off.

After Jacob sent Smitty home, he got Grayson to admit that he had started out doing legitimate deliveries and only found out later that he was dealing in plasma. He was then forced to steal the bodily fluid from the hospital because his superiors had been ready to hurt his mother if he didn't. Grayson was ready to give Jacob the name of his contact at Garland – but first, he wanted immunity, and for Jacob to provide a guarantee he wouldn't be arrested. With that in place, Grayson floored Jacob by saying the woman he reported to was Dr. Lia Whitmore, the hospital's chief of staff.

Lia approached Ashley, wanting to talk to her about her boyfriend. But when Ashley sulked that she had broken up with Grayson because he wasn't who she'd thought he was, Lia moved on to text him, praising him for getting Ashley to dump him. Lia's giving him that much credit? Gray-Gray's got stubble, but he's running a little low on gray matter...

Privately taking a call from Ren, Lia was upset because a pickup she had carefully arranged needed to be hastily rearranged. She frowned that she had her own problems: looking straight at Ashley, Lia told Ren that she had loose ends that needed taking care of. Danger, Ashley Morgan, danger! Just don't let it be Derek who saves her. We don't need those two in each other's orbits again!

Fishin' blues

Martin was surprised to find Naomi on his doorstep – and even more surprised that she'd come to see Smitty. The congressman didn't know where his husband was, cracking good-naturedly that Smitty could be hanging out with criminals, and he wouldn't know. When Martin finally expressed worry about what Smitty's hush-hush story was about, Naomi reminded him that Smitty, like Jacob, was a professional who could take care of himself. Talk turned to Martin's Senate hopes; Martin wasn't happy that Naomi proved to be another naysayer, adding that being able to serve as a senator would help take away his guilt for disfiguring “Kenneth” and killing his brother the night they'd attacked Vernon. Naomi got antsy when Martin hoped Jacob would be able to make it to the upcoming cotillion and beat a hasty retreat out of the brownstone.

Later, Smitty came home earlier than Martin had expected him, sullen and dispassionate. Martin wondered if Smitty was still upset that he had confided in others about his senatorial ambitions before him, but Smitty didn't specify; he just was in a mood where he didn't want to think about anything. Wanting to help and taking the cue, Martin suggested that Smitty run him through the waltz they were expected to perform at the cotillion, and this lightened Smitty up a bit.

In the middle of the dance, however, Smitty caught a phone notification out of the corner of his eye; Martin wanted to get romantic upstairs, so Smitty sent him on ahead to get a moment to return Jacob's calls. Smitty couldn't believe it when Jacob passed along that Lia, who had been passing herself off as an upstanding citizen, was knee-deep in the plasma ring. Poor Martin. Talk about a vibe kill!
