What happened on Beyond the Gates

On Beyond the Gates, Valentine's Day saw Nicole spending the evening with Kat while sending naughty texts to both Carlton and Kial, Smitty turning down Martin's trip to Costa Rica because of his investigation, and Vanessa slapping handcuffs on a blindfolded Joey. Also, Bill gifted Hayley with the house she wanted in St. Bart's, Anita sang for Vernon, and Eva and Izaiah reveled in a simple celebration together. Leslie, however, smashed a mirror after Marcel refused to spend the holiday with her, and Shanice teamed up with Dani to confront her.
Nicole told a worried Dani that she had no problem with Ted seeing Shanice but wouldn't reveal whether she liked Kial or Carlton better. Ashley advised Carlton to make himself less available to Nicole, inspiring him to turn down a date with her. Fairmont Crest gossip Anastasia tried to pump Mona for intel on Nicole's relationship with Carlton, but Mona didn't reveal anything.
Derek went out with Tavia, a girl from the fire station, but Derek decided she was too much of a reminder of the career he had lost. Shanice encouraged Derek to take Leslie's offer to work at the clinic, where he could put his other skills to use. Grayson became annoyed when Ashley amassed information about other care facilities for his mother, who has Parkinson's disease, frustrated that he couldn't afford them no matter how much he worked.
Jacob demanded respect from Elon after the police chief expressed dissatisfaction with the progress the younger Hawthorne was making on the blood plasma case. Elon reminded Jacob of the severity of the risks that came with going undercover and shocked his son when he said he didn't know what he would do if something happened to him. Jacob informed Naomi that he had to move out to keep her safe, giving her a burner phone and instructing her to only call in an emergency.
Chelsea was determined to make Madison take the research position she had given up for her and disagreed with Bill's opinion that her engagement to Madison had been impulsive. Madison was thrilled when the Copenhagen-based organization opened an office in D.C.; Chelsea realized that Bill was behind the donation, which had made that possible.
Unhappy that the police had found no leads regarding Hayley's mugger, Bill tasked Joey with finding him, which led to Joey giving the assignment to Randy. Mona felt Randy was a good man and wanted to take him to church. Hayley feigned indignation when Tomás asked her why she had brought Lynette documents related to her case, which prompted Bill to indirectly threaten Tomás' job. Tomás faced further grief when Lynette demanded that he get her embezzlement case dropped completely.
Hayley hoped she could resurrect her friendship with Naomi when her former bestie came by to check on her. Randy promised Lynette that he would take both her and Hayley down if Joey busted him for not being able to locate Hayley's “attacker.” Hayley was unnerved when she saw Randy with Joey – and even more so when Bill recognized Randy as “Sammy,” the man who had taken Hayley to the hospital during her “miscarriage.” Joey went along with Randy's dual identity but made it clear that Randy would be of no use to him if it caused him problems.
