What happened on Beyond the Gates
On Beyond the Gates, Naomi saw a genetics counselor and looked into specialists in the wake of learning she carried the cancer-amplifying BRCA gene mutation, but she refused to share her diagnosis with Jacob owing to his undercover work and their continuing conflict about kids. Jacob fought when Elon wanted to pull him off the blood plasma ring investigation, and Elon asked Marcel to monitor “The Impaler” out of concern for Jacob's safety. Smitty overstepped by eavesdropping on Jacob's contacts, which had Jacob fuming that Smitty could have blown his cover.
Anita fainted after a second round of chemotherapy; Ted stepped in to correct her resultant dehydration. Vernon's hovering afterwards annoyed Anita, who threw him out of the house so she could have some time to herself. Anita asked Nicole to function as the family's matriarch should she not survive her cancer. Though Anita was delighted when Vernon took her out for a lighthearted, romantic evening, the moment was ruined when clumps of her hair came out in her hand from her treatments.
Ashley supported Derek when he was forced into early retirement from the fire station as a result of his spinal injury; she gave him an encouraging hug, which Grayson saw. Meanwhile, Joey lured Lance, the man who had accosted Vanessa, to the casino and threatened to kill him if he bothered Vanessa again. Unaware of the confrontation, Vanessa manipulated Lance's wife Lolly into calling Lance off, thinking she was handling things on her own.
Shanice received roses from Ted but found out from both Leslie and Nicole that that was Ted's “signature move” after making love for the first time. Leslie planted a pair of panties in Ted's hotel room for Shanice to find, telling Eva that she was only biding time sleeping with Marcel until she could make Ted her own.
Chelsea admitted to Madison that she was barely holding things together after the repeated trials she'd been through, which was contributing to her need to feel free and have fun. Madison still felt Chelsea was being careless, and Chelsea still felt Madison was being judgmental; just as Madison was ready to end their relationship, Chelsea blurted out a marriage proposal, which Madison deemed as having been made out of fear. Bill found out that Madison had arranged to study medicine in Copenhagen and told Chelsea, who begged Madison not to leave.
Bill confessed to Tomás that he had only fallen out of love with Dani because she'd lost her confident edge during their marriage. When Hayley slid into bed and tried to seduce Bill, he pretended to be asleep. Vernon had no sympathy for Bill when he allowed that he'd made a mistake in divorcing Dani, who warned Lynette that Hayley was a fair-weather friend. Randy was horrified after learning that Hayley had upped Bill's poison doses; Madison ordered more tests when she discovered that Bill's carbon dioxide and electrolyte levels were way off.

However, Kat was mortified when she saw a suddenly sexy Nicole out flirting with Kial despite her relationship with Carlton; no one else in the family considered it a problem. Nicole bedded Carlton while getting texts from Kial, enjoying her newfound freedom. Dani wanted to sign Izaiah as a model for her agency; when Eva found Kat encouraging him, she felt betrayed since she'd confided to him how much Kat's insults had hurt her.
