What happened on Beyond the Gates

On Beyond the Gates, Joey remembered his sister Heather to Vanessa on the anniversary of her leaving town. Martin informed Naomi that he wanted to run for the Senate to atone for his violent reaction to the hate crime committed against him and Vernon. Vernon demanded assurance that Bill would be ready for Joey when he came around calling in his marker with Martin.

Martin wondered if his parents were headed toward a reconciliation when he witnessed them in an embrace. Shanice asked Nicole for advice on how to handle Leslie, who thought Nicole should thank her for saving her from a dead marriage.

Carlton took Nicole out to distract her on what would have been her anniversary with Ted, running into Food Network star Sunny Anderson. Later, Nicole was in bed with Carlton, but suddenly pictured Ted. Shanice wasn't sure she could stay with Ted as long as he was giving Nicole and Leslie attention. Lia and Ted had an unexpected conversation about redemption.

Dani and Andre envisioned themselves in fanciful, spy-themed scenarios after Andre was mysterious about a trip he was planning for her.

Somebody's watching me

After discovering that Lia had lost all funds in an investment account as a result of Lynette's theft, Kat concluded that Lia wasn't the reason Lynette had unexpectedly departed town after all. Wanting Kat to mind her own business but also not knowing what Lynette was capable of, Bill ordered Kat to stop looking into Lynette for her own good. Not catching on that Vanessa was fishing for information about Lynette under the guise of asking about the penthouse Hayley had almost bought for her, Hayley felt she was in the clear and got drunk to the point Bill questioned her recent drinking.

Observing that both Grayson and Max had been stabbed, and learning that Max had listed Smitty as an emergency contact, Ashley began to feel that Smitty had answers. Lia didn't deny it when someone sent Grayson a photo of Ashley to let him know Ashley was being followed. Finding out from Lia that there was no way out of the red market, Grayson begged Ashley to run away with him and his mother; instead, Ashley broke up with him for continuing to clam up about what exactly he was involved with.

Grayson confronted Jacob after he put it together that Jacob was in the ring as an undercover cop. Smitty tried to explain his part in the investigation when Grayson threatened him with a pair of scissors. After securing a guarantee that he wouldn't be arrested, Grayson told Jacob that Lia was his point person at the hospital. Lia decided Ashley was a loose end and took a phone call from Joey, who was concerned about exposure.
