Beyond the Gates star Mike Manning is paying tribute to the late director Jeremiah Kipp, who passed away on October 13. Kipp directed Manning in the 2021 film, Slapface.

In Memoriam

"We called it 'The De Niro Take.'" Manning posted on Instagram about shooting with Kipp. "We’d film the scene a few ways. I’d look at you. With a thumbs up, you’d say, 'I think we got it.' We’d both look at the AD. 'Time for one more?' 'Yes?' 'Ok, let’s have fun with this last one.'

"You were driven, patient, creative, hard-working, passionate, kind, with a childlike enthusiasm for storytelling and an eye for magic," the actor, who plays Smitty on BTG, added. "You brought villages together to create magic. You were a wizard.

"Creating Slapface with you was one of the highlights of my life," the actor continued. "It felt like a whimsical summer camp where we just happened to make a movie. I wish I could rewind to those days like a button on a VCR.

"I wish we had one more take, a De Niro take," Manning lamented. "We have more scripts, more dreams. We promised just a month ago [that] we were gonna finish the next one. We have more to do.

"I’m being told we have to wrap," Manning concluded. "I hate it. I can’t change it. Not now… I’m grateful for the memories. Life is cruel. You were kind. We were lucky. We’ll all remember you as a wizard. We’ll miss you. Rest in Peace, J.

Manning added that anyone who is struggling with mental health issues should please reach out to a crisis hotline in their area or dial 988.

Remembering Jeremiah Kipp

According to a post on the Long Island International Film Expo Instagram account, Lindsay Katt, Kipp's partner of seven years, shared that Kipp had "left this plane of existence on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at approximately 3 AM. Jeremiah was a talented Filmmaker and a Scared for Your LIIFE and LIIFE alumnus. We honored him in 2020 at our virtual awards ceremony during Covid with a Creative Achievement Award.

"Jeremiah was a gentle soul who was always generous with advice and sharing his knowledge of cinema, and he leaves behind many friends and an important legacy of works, including: The Mortuary Assistant, The Geechee Witch: A Boo Hag Story, Slapface, Black Wake, The Sadist, The Pod, and Pickup.

"We’re all in shock, and this reminds us that you never know what people are going through, and perhaps, we should all be a bit kinder to each other, and, especially ourselves. RIP Jeremiah Kipp."

Soap Central sends condolences to Manning and all of Jeremiah Kipp's friends and family at this difficult time.
