The Young and the Restless' Cane and Lily appear to be inching closer and closer to a reunion. But there are a few obstacles that could keep them apart. Here are three of those obstacles.
Genoa City Memorial, The Young and the Restless

Lily (Christel Khalil) was right by Cane's (Billy Flynn) side after he underwent the stem cell extraction to donate his bone marrow and save Malcolm's (Shemar Moore) life. She even gifted him a kiss. Hopefully, the procedure will have no negative aftereffects. But we suspect that every medical procedure usually involves some risk. What if Cane suffers a setback, and he winds up back in the hospital -- and this time, his life is on the line?
Soaps thrive on conflict and melodrama, so even if this is a far-fetched possibility, it would keep the Lane fans on edge. Picture Lily sitting by Cane's hospital bed, holding his hand as tears well up in her eyes. As he lies there, asleep as hospital machines beep in the background, she tells him she still loves him. She hopes the sound of her voice will wake him up and bring him back to her. That would be an incredibly soapy scenario that Lane fans would eat up.
We highly doubt that any of that will happen, though. Cane is most likely going to recover just fine, but in soap land, almost anything is possible.
Familial objections

Devon (Bryton James) is never shy about expressing his annoyance or disapproval about something, and we all know he is not a fan of Cane. After everything Cane did to them last summer in Nice, Devon doesn't trust his former brother-in-law. Cane was power-hungry when he kept the secret identity of Aristotle Dumas for six years.
Plus, Chance (Conner Floyd) was killed by Cane's unhinged assistant, Carter (Vincent Stalba). Devon has no room in his heart to forgive Cane. He doesn't believe that Cane will ever be the good man Lily wants and needs him to be. Devon doesn't want Cane to have another chance to hurt his sister. He is skeptical that Cane has truly shaken his Aristotle Dumas persona. If Lily decides to give Cane a second chance, then Devon will be relentless in warning her that she's making a mistake.
Nate (Sean Dominic) will also be disappointed if Cane and Lily get back together. Chance wasn't the only person Carter killed in Nice. He also killed Nate's half-brother, Damian (Jermaine Rivers). But Nate usually expresses his negative feelings in a gentler way than Devon does. He tries to be more understanding. Will he understand if Lily decides she wants another shot with Cane?
Cane could go to jail for stealing Victor's company

Given the fact that Cane was arrested and couldn't go to New York for Malcolm's surgery, there is a possibility that he could be convicted because he stole NE. Even though he agreed to return the company to Victor (Eric Braeden) and was then chloroformed by Phyllis (Michelle Stafford), Victor won't care. He would have no problem sending Cane to prison, even though Phyllis blindsided Cane and took NE for herself. Victor is ruthless to the core, so we could envision a scenario where Cane is convicted and is sent to prison for twenty years or longer. And knowing Victor, he would pull all kinds of strings to make sure the sentence is longer!
That would sour any chance of a possible reunion for Cane and Lily. We don't think Lily would want to spend decades of her life visiting her sweetheart in prison. Unless Cane's lawyer, Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan), has some legal tricks up her sleeve and can get him acquitted of the charges, then that scenario would be a grim one for Cane and Lily. Meanwhile, Devon would be doing a happy dance!
