Over the past five decades of The Young and the Restless, we've heard the characters call each other all sorts of interesting nicknames. Some are annoying, but others are amusing in some way. Here are four nicknames on Y&R that make us chuckle:
Supergirl on The Young and the Restless

Some fans of The Young and the Restless may find Nick's (Joshua Morrow) nickname supergirl for his daughter, Summer (Allison Lanier), annoying or silly. But what we find humorous about it is that we're picturing Summer wearing a cape, red and blue leotards, and a big letter S on her chest.
But we don't think Nick wants us to take the name that literally. He probably calls her that because he wants her to know she can do anything she sets her mind to. He wants her to reach for the stars and never give up on her dreams. In short, he's a father who believes in his daughter.
It's interesting that Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) never calls Summer supergirl, which is what makes the name even more endearing. The fact that Nick is the only parent who gave her a superhero nickname cements the strong father/daughter bond that he has with Summer.
The Bug

Christine's (Lauralee Bell) nickname, Cricket, dates back to her modeling days on Y&R. Of course, it made perfect sense that her archenemy, Phyllis, took that name a step further and called her The Bug.
That nickname works as both a noun and a verb. As a noun, it's an insect. And Phyllis probably has about as much respect for Christine as she does for an insect. As a verb, Christine "bugs" Phyllis. Just the thought of Christine bugs her. Phyllis has always viewed Christine as a thorn in her side. She can't stand her goody-goody personality. It bugs her that the other Y&R characters are friends with Christine and that they view her as a kind, caring person. Phyllis sees her as the opposite of that, and it bugs her that no one else on Y&R feels the same way about Christine as she does.
Leave it to Phyllis to think of a cute nickname for one of her enemies! Why doesn't she have one for Diane (Susan Walters), too?
Pops

Some Y&R fans think that Adam (Mark Grossman) calls Victor Pops, because he grew up on a farm in Kansas. Others believe it's simply a way of distinguishing him from Nick and Victoria (Amelia Heinle), who were raised on the Newman ranch. Nick calls Victor "Dad," and Victoria, as the Newman princess that many fans consider her to be, calls him "Daddy."
When we think of the nickname Pops, it conjures up an image of a lovable father or grandfather, someone with a cuddly personality. But cuddly is not how we would describe Victor Newman. Even though he is all about keeping his family safe, he has driven them all up the wall at one time or another. When he comes up with a plan to go after an enemy, he doesn't share his plan with his family (except for Adam). He interferes in his children's and grandchildren's love lives. He even went so far as to have Victoria arrested on her wedding day to Billy many years ago, way back when Billy was played by Billy Miller.
Some Y&R fans notice that sometimes Victor doesn't even look at his family when he talks to them. That's what's amusing about Adam's nickname for him. Pops sounds like a name for a sweet, good-natured man. Even though Victor has his tender moments, most of the time he is anything but sweet and good-natured.
The Mustache

Jack (Peter Bergman) has had a variety of nicknames for Victor over the years. He has referred to him as The Black Knight, Mr. Mumbles, Moneybags, and The Mustache. The name he's been using most frequently is The Mustache, which is a cute nickname.
But the funny thing is that Victor doesn't have the bushy mustache he had years ago, so why does Jack continue to call him that? Has he taken a good look at Victor's face lately? Apparently, he hasn't. Maybe Jack has become so accustomed to calling him that name over the years that it has remained permanently lodged in his mind. He saw Victor sport a big mustache for so many years that now he can't unsee it.
