On The Young and the Restless, there are a number of phrases and sentences that certain characters utter so often that eventually, we arrive at a point where we roll our eyes in annoyance. Can these characters just stop? Here are four Y&R phrases that we're tired of hearing:
Nikki Newman on The Young and the Restless: "I am honoring Katherine's legacy."

This is a sentence that four or five characters have uttered on The Young and the Restless. Victor (Eric Braeden), Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott), and Jack (Peter Bergman) -- and probably even more characters -- have all made this statement. We get it. Nikki was a close friend of Katherine Chancellor's (Jeanne Cooper). She once said that Katherine was like a mother to her, and that is why running Chancellor Industries is near and dear to her heart.
But we don't need to hear this line of dialogue in practically every episode of Y&R. It gives the viewers the wrong idea and makes it sound as though Nikki has been running Chancellor for decades, which isn't true. She's only been running it since December 2024. There were many other characters who ran the company before she did. Jill (Jess Walton), Neil (Kristoff St. John), Billy (Jason Thompson), Lily (Christel Khalil), and Cane (played by Daniel Goddard at the time) have all run Chancellor at one point or another.
Billy takes a lot of hits, but he was one hundred percent spot-on when he said that Victor presented Chancellor to Nikki as a gift with a big red bow on it. Aside from the bow, he was right. Nikki may have some good qualities, but she is also a spoiled and entitled woman who admitted herself to Jack that she stays with Victor because of the life he gave her. He took her from rags to riches. So, we're sorry, Nikki, but when you whine about losing Chancellor, your words fall on deaf ears (for some of us, at least). She was perfectly happy running Newman Media when Victor surprised "his baby" with Chancellor. It wasn't like she really needed it at the time, and it's not as though she lost a company that she spent decades putting her blood, sweat, and tears into either.
As much as we want Billy to have a win, sometimes it feels like the person who should run Chancellor is Devon (Bryton James), since he is Katherine's grandson. How about a switch-up in the storyline? Maybe Nate (Sean Dominic) and Lily (Christel Khalil) could remain at Winters, Inc., and Devon could acquire Chancellor and run it himself. Once Victor eventually gets Chancellor back from Phyllis (Michelle Stafford), maybe Devon could try to buy it from him?
Phyllis Summers: "No one appreciates my skills."

This is a sentence that Phyllis has uttered in various ways on The Young and the Restless. No one appreciates her skills, her talents, and everything else that she has to offer the business world. That may be true, but Phyllis is a strong-willed woman. She has loads of self-confidence and isn't afraid to show people how much of a bad-ass she is. So, why does she constantly feel sorry for herself and complain about how big, bad Victor and everyone else in GC looks down on her? Whining isn't the answer. We want her to take action and find a way to change things for the better. She's a smart cookie. We know she can do it.
Unfortunately, she went too far with the action she did ultimately take. Stealing Newman Enterprises was extreme, even for Phyllis. Since she wants so badly to prove herself to everyone, why didn't she just start her own company? Since she's an expert at computer hacking, she could have created a company that protects businesses from cyber attacks. She would run that like a boss!
Victor Newman: "I built my company from the ground up."

This is something Victor doesn't need to keep reminding everyone about on The Young and the Restless. While it is certainly admirable when any businessman (especially someone with a poor background like Victor had) builds his company from the ground up, the Mustache needs to take a seat.
News flash, Victor: there are lots of billionaire businessmen in the world who built their companies from the ground up. Businessmen who grew up poor, like you did. You are not the only one, and there will be plenty more to come along after you leave this world, too.
Victor seriously needs to humble himself and stop acting like he has a God complex. Goodness, even General Hospital's mob boss Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) doesn't act this arrogant -- and he's a career criminal!
Victor Newman: "Billy Boy Abbott"

This phrase should have been retired a long time ago. Victor is the only character on The Young and the Restless who uses the term "Billy Boy," even when he's talking about Billy to other characters. We know how much he hates Billy and thinks he's a loser, so it's definitely not a term of endearment. But really, Victor, take a good look at Billy. He's not a boy. He's a grown man!
Why does Victor insist on calling him that? Is it because Billy has a reckless, impulsive personality and still has a lot of growing up to do emotionally? Maybe it's because Billy has long been considered the black sheep and screw-up of the Abbott family, a guy who can't make any of his romantic relationships work out?
That could be some of the reasons for the Billy Boy nickname, but it would still be nice if Victor eased up on Billy and stopped calling him that every time he sees him. After all, Jack has had some derogatory nicknames for Victor, too, over the years. The Black Knight and Mr. Mumbles are just two that come to mind.
