The Young and the Restless is bringing Coco and Shirley on for Billy and Sally's wedding, but there's a member of the Abbott family who, alas, is not going to make it. Viewers should not expect an appearance by Jess Walton, who plays Jill, the mother of the groom.

The Mother of the Groom

On the Y&R Insider social account, which previews the wedding and can be seen above, longtime Y&R fan @karend6970 asks about Jill being at the wedding: "The only person missing was the mother of the groom. Sorry, but Jill / Jess Walton should have been there!"

The official Y&R account responded, "Jess and Jill are such beloved members of the Y&R family… We hope to see her in Genoa City soon!! ❤️."

While the character of Jill appeared earlier this year, she was being played on screen by Lauren Koslow (Kate, Days of our Lives; ex-Lindsey Wells, Y&R), Walton last appeared on the show about a year ago when Jill came back to Genoa City and interacted with Billy, Cane (Billy Flynn), and Jack (Peter Bergman).

Jill's an original Y&R character. She befriended Katherine Chancellor (the late, great Jeanne Cooper) as Kay was a patron of The Golden Comb, the hair salon where Jill worked.

Kay hired Jill as her companion, which turned out to be a big mistake as Jill and Phillip (Donnelly Rhodes) fell in love. Jill became pregnant with Phillip's son, Phillip III (Thom Bierdz). Alas, their future was cut short after Kay, drunk, drove Phillip to his death.

The feud between Kay and Jill raged on for years. The two women became united for the first time when they attempted to control Nina Webster (Tricia Cast), who was pregnant by Phillip III.

Jill married John Abbott (the late Jerry Douglas) not once, but twice. Her second marriage to John resulted in the birth of their son, Billy. After John and Jill split a second time, John moved to New York with Billy.

Jill's lovers have included Victor Newman (Eric Braeden), Keith Dennison (Granville Van Dusen), and Colin Atkinson (the late Tristan Rogers). For a time, Kay and Jill both believed that they were mother and daughter, but that turned out not to be the case. Jill's biological father was the late Neil Fenmore (James Storm), making Jill the half-sister of Lauren Fenmore Baldwin (Tracey Bregman).

Walton's memoir, The Young and the Rest of Us, is set to be published on April 27, 2027.
