The Young and the Restless Recap August 21: Sharon and Nick Reconnected in Rehab

Chelsea approached Billy at Crimson Lights, who had a stuffed bear with him. She congratulated him on his baby. She wondered how Billy could be sitting around Crimson Lights when he was getting married, having a baby, and he was maybe getting Chancellor Industries.

Billy sized up Chelsea right away, accusing her of trying to get a story for Adam. Chelsea said that if you want to control the narrative, you need to be pre-emptive. Billy doubted that Chelsea could control how the story would be printed. She assured him otherwise. Chelsea told Billy that she could make sure that the story was done right.

Chelsea said that they could go to the press before it gets out. Billy said that doesn’t put a win in his column if Victor and Adam learn about what he’s doing. Billy agreed to put Chelsea’s idea in her back pocket. Billy hastened to add that stories in the press could only hurt him, and he declined Chelsea’s offer. Chelsea told Billy that he didn’t trust her. He told her that she couldn’t control Adam, Victor, or the press.

Chelsea wondered if Spectra Charles would write about Billy and Chancellor Industries. Billy scoffed at the assumption he would “dare” to give a scoop to his soon-to-be wife.

Unlikely Ally

At the Newman Ranch, Cane told Victor about Billy’s goal with Chancellor Industries. Victor asked Cane if he was afraid of Billy. Next, Adam arrived, wondering why they were talking about business in front of Cane. Adam pointed out that Lily owned Kay’s company. Victor said he’d be damned if he’d let “Billy Boy Abbott” get his grubby fingerprints over Katherine’s company.

Cane theorized that Jill knew about the deal between John and Philip. Adam took Cane aside and said he was fine going scorched-earth against Billy. Cane insisted to Adam that Lily not be hurt, which he agreed to.

Candid Conversation

Lily met with Jack at Jabot Cosmetics to discuss Billy and his quest to show his mother he can run Chancellor Industries. Jack told Lily that he was sorry this was happening. Jack revealed that there was a large transaction in his dad’s records around the time that the deal between John and Phillip occurred. Jack said there’s no sign of a repayment, at least now. Jack said he’d like to stay out of this, but Lily said, as it involves John Abbot, that would make it hard.

Lily asked Jack to try to control Billy. Jack said that the fight for Chancellor Industries is a mistake, but he added that nothing would stop Billy from pursuing this. Lily suggested a deal before it gets out of control.

Lily told Jack that he was always level-headed. She told Jack that she would pay back John’s loan now, and then they could close the deal. No drama. All done.

Jack said he wasn’t comfortable speculating on what happened. Lily doubted Billy would look for information in Chancellor Industries' records that would kill his deal. Lily said the loan wasn’t worth what Chancellor was. She encouraged Jack to make the deal.

Lily pointed out that Jack didn’t want Billy to spiral. Jack said nothing that Lily could say could get him to accept her offer, adding that his family was worth more than a company was.

Then, Kyle entered. Lily said goodbye. Jack told Kyle that Lily had made a proposal, but if he accepted it, then Billy would cut him out of his life.

Shick Forever

Sharon visited Nick at rehab. He wondered if everyone was mad at him. Sharon assured her ex that everyone just wanted him to find peace. Sharon noted that Nick has no control over much, including his schedule or his food. He wanted to know why she always cut him a break. Sharon said everyone deserves love and patience. Nick beat himself up. Sharon said that wasn’t being helpful.

Nick knew the good or low moments wouldn’t last forever. Sharon said that the longer they sit with their emotions, the more they realize they’re not going to destroy the people who feel them. In fact, they may lose their power. Sharon said that she felt reassured. Sharon denied Nick’s suspicion that she wanted to tell him something. Nick thinks it’s about Matt Clark.

Sharon told Nick that she and Matt had had a long talk. Nick was upset. Sharon said they talked about why he insisted on staying in town. Sharon said that Matt’s motivation is his desperation. She added that Matt wants to be seen as sincere. Sharon admitted that Matt appeared genuinely haunted by Nick’s condition. Nick read off a litany of Matt’s crimes against him. He added that absolving Matt isn’t high on his list. Sharon said that Matt appears to be genuine. Sharon said she didn’t want to see him, but did it hurt her in the way it once did? No. Nick says he’s seen this new Matt, too, but once he gets out, he doesn’t want to deal with any version of Matt Clark.

Nick told Sharon that she was his favorite guest. She told him that he was human, like the rest of us. Nick didn’t know when he was getting out. She told him he couldn’t put a timeline on this. Nick told Sharon that Marie showed up. Off Sharon's reaction, Nick explained that she was the woman from the motel. Nick said that she walked in on a meeting that he was in. “You saved her life, Nick,” Sharon said, adding that he wasn’t going to forget him.

Nick said that Noah should still be in town, and Matt should be gone. Sharon said that Matt needed to be accepted. Nick wanted to get out and protect his family from Matt. Sharon told Nick that he wasn’t superhuman. Nick quipped that it was super-painful that Sharon said he wasn’t a superhero. “I had to be the hero, it’s the only thing I know,” Nick said on a more serious tone.

Sharon noted that Nick’s parents had a volatile relationship, and because he had to grow up in boarding school, he had to take care of himself. Nic quipped that Sharon should be on staff there. She’d fix him up fast. Nick said when he got out of there, and that should be soon, they could take Christian, Faith, and, maybe, Mariah, to go to L.A. Sharon said that sounded perfect.

At the ranch, Chelsea updated Adam that she had seen Billy, and he confirmed nothing. He only indirectly said he was going after Chancellor Industries. Adam said that Billy wasn’t the only source for this story. Adam said they’d get a quote from him eventually, as Billy would want a rebuttal from another source. Adam said he had a source who was ready to spill.

Adam said that Cane was here and met with Victor. Adam wanted Newman Media to hammer away at Billy. Chelsea said that she was sick of everyone posturing. Adam said that Victor didn’t want Billy to take Chancellor Industries away from Lily. Chelsea sensed that Billy’s chances were slimming. Adam wasn’t so sure.

At the GCAC, Billy asked Victor if he’d gotten any bad news, referring to his plan to take over Chancellor. Victor vowed that Billy would never take Chancellor Industries away from Lily. Billy said he’d rather take it from Victor than Lily, but you play the hand you are dealt. Victor vowed to destroy Billy before he could take Chancellor Industries away from Lily.

Billy wondered what the point of success was if you don’t piss off at least one person, and added that Victor was his first choice. Victor chuckled. He suggested that Billy should keep smiling because he wasn’t going to know what hit him.

Then, Lily and Cane ran into Adam on his way out of the GCAC. Billy said that he wanted to tell Victor about him and Chancellor Industries – not them. Cane asked if he’d rained on Billy’s parade. Billy quipped just a drizzle, and he wasn’t going to submit to Victor. Lily commented on Billy’s energy. She suggested that he save that for his wedding. Billy said that a gambler always wants to play against the best. That way, the win feels earned. He says Chancellor deserves a winner like him at the helm.
