The Young and the Restless: Y&R's Tracey Bregman, AMC's Susan Lucci, and Carol Burnett Remember the Late, Great Bob Mackie

The Young and the Restless star Tracey Bregman, who plays Lauren on the top-rated soap, is honoring her late cousin, Bob Mackie, who served as the costume designer on The Carol Burnett Show, which taped mere feet from Y&R's stage at Television City in Hollywood.

"The world certainly has less shimmer, glitter, and shine today with the loss of my cousin @bobmackie," Bregman wrote on Instagram. "I was on the board of Otis [College of Art and Design] for some time and saw what he gave back to the students and up-and-coming designers.

"His costumes for @cher and @itscarolburnett go down in history," the actress continued. "My mom remembers him dressing Barbie’s and this morning told me a story, and when he was young and living with his grandma, he designed a stage for an opera complete with costumes.

"He had lifelike doll figures that he made, and my mother was just in awe," Bregman wrote. "I had the great chance of wearing his costumes a couple of times. I always felt special to be able to put on one of his dresses. Rest In Peace, sweet Bobby. 🦋🕊️🌟💗."

I Just Saw It in the Window

Burnett, who played Verla Grubbs on All My Children, credited Mackie with having the idea for "Starlett O'Hara" to wear the curtain rod across her shoulders when Burnett, as Starlett, recreated the famous moment from Gone With the Wind when Scarlett O'Hara (Vivien Leigh) attempted to impress Rhett Butler (Clark Gable) with a dress made out of lush curtains. The comedic visual is one of TV's most memorable sight gags.

"Sadness doesn’t come close to how I feel," Burnett shared on Instagram of the late Mackie. "I loved him very much. As for his genius, there are fashion designers who don’t do costumes, and there are costume designers who don’t do fashion. Bob did it all. There was no one like him."

"I am so sad to learn of Bob Mackie’s passing," Lucci posted on Instagram along with a photo of her in a Mackie design. "The fashion world and all who love it, as it’s most glamorous, have lost a giant! Bob Mackie’s talent and imagination knew no end—and I am so grateful to have one of his most iconic creations!
