The Young and the Restless: Four storylines that were dropped for no apparent reason

Over the course of the past year, we've seen several storylines on The Young and the Restless introduced, only to see them disappear for what seems like no apparent reason. The Y&R writers had our curiosity piqued, but then, they changed the direction of the story. Here are four tales that were inexplicably dropped:

The Holden and Claire sexcapade on The Young and the Restless

Holden (Nathan Owens) and Claire (Hayley Erin) spent one passionate night together in L.A. on Halloween, after The Young and the Restless writers invested months building up their friendship and their growing attraction. The sex scenes were steamy and quite elaborate. They seemed like a throwback to the time when studly Brad Carlton (Don Diamont) had a heart attack during a wild night in bed with Lauren (Tracey Bregman).

Claire and Holden brought a similar kind of heat to the screen. We saw a wildcat side to Claire that we'd never seen before -- and haven't seen since. They flew home to Genoa City, and that was it. No more passion. No more off-the-charts chemistry. Claire is back to her former, prim, proper self. The rare few times we've seen her talk to Holden since Halloween, we didn't feel even one quarter of the sparks we felt between them that night. What the heck happened?

Daniel has been unemployed for what feels like forever

It feels like The Young and the Restless writers have forgotten about Daniel's (Michael Graziadei) unemployment situation. He's been without a job for about a year now, maybe even longer. Are they trying to figure out what would be a fitting career for him? We have to wonder just how he's been paying his bills, considering that he isn't wealthy, like the Newmans and Abbotts are.

It felt like the writers were working towards making Daniel a musician who would play gigs in different nightclubs, since Tessa has been teaching him to play guitar. But we haven't seen that happen yet. Maybe we're supposed to be too distracted with their budding romance to remember that he hasn't worked in ages?

It would be great if we could see him make a career for himself with his talent for art. With all the business people in Genoa City, it would be a refreshing change to see a few characters pursue their creative dreams.

Claire and Kyle teamed up to take down Audra

The Young and the Restless presented us with a unique storyline when Kyle and Claire decided to become partners with a mutual goal -- to bring down Audra (Zuleyka Charles) by exposing her L.A. secret. Since they haven't worked out as a romantic couple, it was fun when the Y&R writers paired them up with a sinister motive in mind and with Audra as their target. We were curious to see how they were going to find out the secret.

But, unfortunately, the storyline never took flight. Maybe the writers decided to hold off on the shocking revelation until Audra was able to begin working at Abbott Communications? That way, her new career and her friendship with Sally (Courtney Hope) will be in jeopardy.

Holden still works for Cane...or does he?

In 2025, on The Young and the Restless, we discovered that Holden secretly works for Cane, but is that still the case? We've seen them have maybe two face-to-face meetings and a couple of phone conversations.

When Victor (Eric Braeden) used the AI program to destroy Arabesque, Holden called Cane and asked him what was going on with the company. Was Arabesque destroyed? What could he do to help? He wanted to make sure he still had a job. So, why didn't we ever get a follow-up meeting between Cane and Holden about the status of Arabesque and Holden's employment there?

Also, is Cane going to give Holden one of the divisions of Newman Enterprises to run, now that he has taken NE for himself and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford)? It seems that the Y&R writers keep leaving us in limbo about the working relationship of Cane and Holden.

It would be great if we could see more meetings between the two men, considering that Holden doesn't seem to do much of anything in GC besides drink Vesper cocktails with Claire and argue with Audra. He needs more characters to interact with. Does he even know that Cane is working with Phyllis? Does he even know Phyllis? They should meet, because it would be fun if Cane, Holden, and Phyllis were to all team up and become the next big power players in Genoa City!
