Jack approached Diane at the Athletic Club bar and begged her to stay. She testily questioned the point. He brokenly replied that his life would have no meaning if he lost her, and Victor would win. Jack pleaded with her not to let his mistake ruin everything they had. He added that he loved her and wanted to prove that she was the only woman for him.

Diane snapped that it wasn’t about Victor winning, and she warned Jack not to put his infidelity on her when he’d taken Victor’s bait. Jack hated that he’d hurt her, and he insisted that he was committed to doing whatever it took to get her to forgive him. Diane couldn’t get past the images in her head of him and Patty. Diane explained that even if she wanted to forgive him, she couldn’t because she was too angry.

Jack defended that he’d been drugged, and he hadn’t known what Patty’s game had been or if his life had been in danger. Diane retorted that she’d also been scared because she hadn’t known if she’d find Jack tied up or dead, but instead, she’d found him naked in bed with another woman. Diane wasn’t sure she could look at him the same way or trust him ever again.

Jack wished he could go back and change what had happened to take Diane’s pain away. Diane whimpered that she needed space, since being close to him gutted her. He asked how they could move forward, but she didn’t know. Kyle approached, and Diane explained that she had dinner plans with her son. Jack assumed it would be futile to ask to join them, and Diane confirmed that it would be. Jack defeatedly walked away.

A pained Jack looked over at Diane and Kyle’s table from the bar before heading to the exit. Kyle asked if Diane wanted to go after his dad, but she refused to discuss her conversation with Jack. Kyle argued that she couldn’t avoid Jack forever because they all worked together. Diane firmly stated that she was still capable of doing her job.

Kyle imagined it would create a difficult dynamic for everyone at the office for Diane to see Jack every day. Diane scoffed at the idea of staying away from work or forgiving Jack simply to avoid making anyone else uncomfortable. Diane asked if Kyle would fire her if she didn’t fall in line. Kyle conceded that he wanted his parents to figure things out, but he would never suggest that Diane leave Jabot. Kyle pointed out that Jack was willing to do anything to make amends. Diane groused that Kyle was pressuring her, and it wasn’t fair or right.

Kyle apologized for pushing, and he reflected on how his parents had been able to forgive him for the pain he’d caused and work together as a family. He questioned whether his mother wanted him to hate his dad. Diane wished Kyle could hate Jack – just a little. Through tears, Diane preferred to call it a night. They hugged goodbye, and she headed upstairs.

Jack returned home, and Traci said she’d been worried about him. Jack revealed that Diane had moved out after he’d been unfaithful with Patty. Traci urged Jack not to blame himself because he’d been drugged. He countered that he’d still had a choice, and he contemplated what it said about him that he hadn’t resisted.

Jack bemoaned that he’d spent his whole life trying to live up to his father’s example, and he’d known it had been his turn to step up as head of the family when John had died. Traci commended him for doing a remarkable job, but Jack lamented that he’d failed to do the right thing on the yacht. He wailed that he might have lost the most important person in his life, and he didn’t see a way to win his wife’s trust back. Traci offered to do anything she could to help him save his marriage.

Devon updates Lily on Mariah

Lily arrived at the Chancellor estate at Devon’s request. Devon revealed that he and Abby had learned that Mariah would be sent to a psychiatric hospital as her only punishment for kidnapping their son. Lily thought it was best that Mariah got the help she needed, but Devon argued that Mariah had been sane enough to know what she had been doing was wrong but had chosen to do it anyway.

Devon condemned Christine for making sure her client didn’t pay for any crimes, since a hospital stay was only a slap on the wrist for stealing a child. Lily contended that all that mattered was that Dominic was home and safe. Devon lamented that it was hard not to live in fear when his child had been taken from his home. Lily urged him to let go of his anger for his family’s sake.

Lily pressed to know the details about the kidnapping. Devon barked that she would have known about it if she’d been there, but he begrudgingly filled her in about Abby and Dominic building a snowman when the abduction had occurred. Lily asked where Devon had been when Dominic had gone missing. Devon became defensive, but Lily swore she was just trying to picture everything.

Devon remembered that he’d wanted to join Abby and Dominic, but he’d been stuck inside on a work call because he’d picked up the slack while Lily had been gone. Devon imagined that the kidnapping might not have happened if he’d been outside. Lily reasoned that Devon and Abby had been traumatized and might blame one another. Devon adamantly denied that he blamed Abby, but Lily asked if he blamed himself. Devon bellowed that his anger was justified, and he blamed Mariah for all of it.

Dear Abby and Daniel

At Society, Daniel found Abby tending bar. She noted that he and Tessa had seemed close at his dad’s wedding, and he awkwardly confirmed that they were. Abby inquired whether he knew what the long-term plan was for Mariah after she received treatment at the hospital. Daniel guessed that Abby wasn’t okay with Mariah’s plea deal.

Abby pointed out that there had been no consequences for Mariah kidnapping her son. Abby conceded that Dominic seemed to be fine, but Daniel suspected that Abby wasn’t. Abby confided that she was constantly checking on Dominic if she couldn’t see or hear him, and she’d even dug out his old baby monitor to listen to him breathe while he was sleeping. She wondered how she could make her fears stop.

Daniel doubted Mariah was a threat, and he believed the judge had made the right decision to send her to a hospital instead of prison. Abby admitted that she was on the fence. Daniel recounted that he’d seen how it had broken Mariah’s heart to distance herself from her wife and child to keep them safe. Abby recalled that she hadn’t known what to think when she’d found out Mariah had taken her son, but not knowing where he was had been one of most terrifying feelings she’d ever had.

Abby accepted responsibility for leaving Dominic alone and making it possible for someone to take him, but she also believed Mariah should be held accountable for committing a crime. Daniel understood if Abby wanted Mariah to serve jail time, but he hoped that one day, there could be forgiveness and healing for everyone involved. Devon entered the restaurant, and Abby thanked Daniel for listening.

Devon and Abby get real

After Daniel left, Devon relayed Lily’s insinuation that he blamed himself or Abby for the kidnapping. Abby shared that she and Daniel had also been talking about Mariah, and she and Devon compared notes about how Daniel, Lily, and Nate all thought psychiatric treatment was the best option. Devon growled that they were all wrong, since someone who’d stolen a child and tried to flee the country needed to pay for it by serving prison time.

Devon voiced surprise when Abby was unsure. Abby agreed that Mariah needed to do more than spend time at a psychiatric facility, but she thought prison was a huge jump. Devon vowed to make sure the judge and D.A. didn’t get reelected, since he wanted justice for their son and family.

At Crimson Lights, Holden was stunned that Cane wanted to use him to go after Victor. Cane recalled that Victor had gone to extremes to get back Newman Enterprises, and he intended to hit Victor back even harder. Holden asked why he was the right person for the job. Cane noted that Holden was close with Claire, and he requested that Holden spend time with her to gather intel.

Holden balked at dragging Claire into a situation that might put her in danger. Cane said he understood, and he pledged to find another way in. Holden hoped he hadn’t burned a bridge by turning down the offer, and he confessed that he could use the money. Cane promised that he’d reach out if he had something Holden was right for. Cane glowered when Lily entered the coffeehouse.

Holden excused himself and stepped onto the patio. Lily contemplated how she and Cane should handle their run-ins, and he suggested that they cross the street if they saw one another. She pleaded just to talk, but he refused after she’d repeatedly shut him out. After Cane left, Holden rejoined Lily and cautioned that there was something she should know about her ex.

Holden informed Lily that a frantic Cane had sent him to L.A. to track her and the twins down, and she figured Cane had been worried about his kids. Holden stressed that it had torn Cane apart not to know if she was okay. Lily surmised Holden wanted her to feel bad because she hadn’t actually been in danger. Floored, Holden blurted out that it was news to him, and he explained that he’d just wanted to warn her that Cane wasn’t in a good place.

Lily assured Holden that his warning wasn’t necessary because Cane wanted nothing to do with her. Holden reiterated that Lily and the twins being away had put Cane in a bad state of mind, and he predicted things would get ugly when Cane went after Victor. Holden advised Lily to keep her distance and do everything in her power not to get caught in the crossfire.
