Changing of the Chancellor Guard

At Society, Billy crowed to Lily and Cane that Chancellor was about to change hands for the last time, but they were skeptical about Billy’s claims. Lily rescinded the job offer that Cane had extended to Billy. Billy clucked that she didn’t have the power to fire him because she didn’t own Chancellor – the Abbotts did. Billy informed them that by the end of the day, he’d have the ammunition to take full possession of the company, and Cane and Lily would be the ones leaving.

Billy explained the circumstances behind the loan John had given to Phillip and how ownership of Chancellor had reverted to John and his heirs when the loan hadn’t been repaid within 20 years. Billy empathized with Lily’s position of having a vision to run a legacy company, only to have it suddenly taken away. Cane guessed that Billy was spinning an elaborate tale to try to get back what he’d lost. Billy maintained that he had truth on his side, and Chancellor would finally be in the right hands once he was running it again.

Lily argued that there was no way John ever would have taken Chancellor from Katherine. Billy flatly stated that the contract had never been terminated, and there was no malice in following up on a good-faith loan. Billy added that Jill had made it clear that it had been a secret she hadn’t wanted him to know. Billy imagined that if the news had gotten out when Jill had owned Chancellor, she would have lost everything, so she’d chosen to screw over her son to get a payday out of it instead.

Cane condemned Billy for using the opportunity to trash Jill and stepped away to discuss business with Holden. Lily scoffed at caving in to Billy’s delusions without a fight. Billy anticipated she would realize it was a fight she couldn’t win once she saw the proof. Lily warned that he would lose everything that mattered to him if he went through with it.

At the bar, Cane asked Holden if he had any updates about the archives Billy had been looking into. Billy approached and inquired whether Cane had told Holden the bad news. Cane blasted Billy for making him look like a fool for begging Lily to let Billy have a role at Chancellor. Billy said he appreciated Cane having his back, but he’d found hope and a future that was better than the one Cane had offered him. Billy walked away.

Backing Off Billy

At Jabot, Jack told Ashley and Traci about the loan and mentioned that Kyle was meeting with their attorneys to determine if the documents were valid or enforceable. Jack was reluctant to take legal action to prove that the Abbotts owned Chancellor and voiced concern that Billy was eager and ready to claim Chancellor as his own. Ashley considered Billy’s blind obsession to be a problem.

Traci objected to going after a company they didn’t need, especially when it would devastate Lily and Cane. Jack explained that Billy believed Jill had sold Chancellor to Victor to keep the secret from getting out. Ashley imagined Billy felt like he’d found a gift from his father. Jack theorized that John had wanted to keep the secret buried, but worried that Billy was determined to dig it up, no matter who got hurt.

Jack wished Billy would find contentment with the positive things in his life and put his Chancellor fixation to rest. Traci understood Billy’s need to prove himself after Jill had unseated him, and Ashley echoed that Billy needed to run Chancellor to feel complete.

Ashley thought trying to stop Billy would only lead to more tension in their family. Jack contended that Billy wasn’t John’s only heir, and he thought they had to stop Billy before he damaged their father’s legacy.

Ashley and Traci encouraged Jack to avoid a battle with his brother for his own health. Jack recognized that he’d spent months fighting for his life and his marriage. Even if Billy wanted to fight, it was Jack’s choice to decide to walk away.

Cane called Jack, so they made plans to meet at Jabot. Ashley and Traci refused to go anywhere. Cane arrived and urged the Abbott siblings to do what they could to stop Billy before things got uglier, or they would all regret it. Meanwhile, Lily asked if Holden would be her ally in her impending war with Billy.

At Nate’s penthouse, Nate met with Stephanie to discuss the surgery that might be able to reverse the injury to his hand. He confirmed that he was considering returning to medicine and credited her passion for helping people as the reason he’d changed his mind. Stephanie cautioned that some patients didn’t see improvement after the surgical procedure, so she didn’t want him to be disappointed. He assured her that he’d survive if he had to give up medicine again.

Stephanie envisioned Nate joining her surgical team if his surgery was successful and invited him to lunch to celebrate the possibility. He suggested that they celebrate there, and he’d cook for her. She jokingly questioned his cooking skills, but he implored her to prepare to be impressed. Nate stepped into the kitchen, and Stephanie left a voicemail for her surgeon friend about moving forward with Nate’s potential surgery.

Later, Stephanie noticed a Bulls cap on Nate’s shelf, and they ribbed one another about their favorite sports teams. Stephanie spotted a family photo of Nate with his cousins. Nate reported that Devon already knew about his potential career change and was supportive. Nate hoped that if the surgery was successful, he and Devon could put their tumultuous past behind them.

Over a lunch of grilled cheese sandwiches, Nate and Stephanie bantered about his culinary skills. She was sure his patients had enjoyed his sense of humor, and he hoped they would again if her friend was willing to take him on as a patient. Stephanie teased that he had a backup career with culinary school, and Nate revealed that he’d started cooking when he’d stopped being a surgeon to do something with his hands. She took his hand in hers and caressed the spot where his tendon had been lacerated.

Stephanie’s doctor friend returned her call, so Stephanie arranged for the doctor to fly in for a consultation. Nate gushed that she had no idea how much he appreciated it after finally admitting to himself how much he wanted to get back into medicine. Nate invited her to a basketball or hockey game to thank her for everything she’d done for him. Stephanie replied that she wouldn’t mind him making her another meal.

Do you see sparks between Nate and Stephanie? Are Billy's siblings right with their advice? Sound off in the comments.
