The Young and the Restless Recap August 31 to September 4: Nick Plays Hero while Phyllis Plots to Help Matt

On The Young and the Restless from Monday, August 31 through Friday, September 4, 2026, Nick held court at rehab, Phyllis tracked down Matt, Billy made a big decision, Diane found an interesting item, and Victoria and Kyle continued to do whatever it is they are doing.

Holding Out for a Hero

Phyllis visited Nick in rehab under the pretense of being worried about him, but they clashed when he realized she was really there to question him about Matt’s disappearance. Nick sensed that Matt and Phyllis were planning something against the Newmans, and he cautioned that Matt always turned up under another dangerous persona. Phyllis noticed the connection between Nick and Marie.

Marie’s husband, Logan, arrived to see Marie in rehab and recognized Nick as a member of the wealthy Newman family. Nick eavesdropped on Logan and Marie’s conversation, during which Marie pushed Logan when he became physically and verbally abusive. Nick tried to intervene and found a motionless Logan on the floor. Nick was unable to find a pulse and ordered Marie to go back to her room.

Forever Evil

Matt went to see Patty in prison, and he was unnerved when she alluded to never being able to escape who they truly were inside. Matt was later tormented with the thought he might always be evil, and he penned a goodbye letter to Phyllis.

Sharon attempted to counsel Phyllis about her fixation on Matt, but Phyllis continued to defend him. Phyllis later gushed to Lauren about her budding relationship with Matt, and Lauren tried to dissuade her from pursuing it any further. Phyllis rushed out when a distraught Matt called, begging to see her.

Phyllis comforted Matt as he broke down over his past misdeeds and his fear that he’d never be redeemed. Phyllis found the crumpled goodbye letter and swore that she’d never abandon him. Phyllis pledged to help Matt become the most respected man in Genoa City, and they had sex. Phyllis pitched the idea of painting Matt as a hero by targeting someone close to the Newmans and having Matt save them. Say maybe Sharon...

Billy Concedes

Lily informed Billy that she’d opted not to hand Chancellor over to him, so he accused her of stalling because of Cane. Billy vowed to fight her in court. Lily and Cane steeled themselves for a battle and pledged to uncover any remaining secrets at Chancellor.

Sally became upset when Billy reaffirmed his commitment to getting Chancellor back. Sally suddenly doubled over in pain, and Billy called for help. Sally and the baby were fine, but she pleaded with Billy to walk away from Chancellor because the stress was too much. Audra admitted that Sally’s health scare had stirred up memories of her own miscarriage.

Lily and Cane were shocked when Billy announced that he was temporarily relinquishing his claim to Chancellor to focus on Sally and the baby. Sally hoped it would be a permanent end to his obsession with the company.

Reviving Vibrante

Victoria was stunned when Victor revealed he already knew about her plan to revive Vibrante. Victor backed the plan once Victoria convinced him that she would annihilate Jabot, but he warned Victoria to keep her distance from the Abbotts. Victor voiced his concern that Marie might interfere with Nick’s recovery. Nikki continued to push the idea of Jack becoming Nick’s sponsor, much to Victor's chagrin.

Audra was livid when she learned of Victoria’s plan to resurrect Vibrante. Kyle pushed Audra’s buttons by taunting her, claiming Victoria would succeed where Audra had failed. Audra hinted that she expected a generous offer for Victoria to acquire the patents Audra had kept in her own name. Victoria and Kyle made plans to covertly meet at a hotel.

Stephanie gifted Nate with new shoes to commemorate his return to surgery. Devon observed the growing closeness between the two. Stephanie offered to drive Nate to and from his procedure and helped him keep his mind off the surgery.
