The Young and the Restless Recap, February 10: Billy distracts the Newmans while Phyllis takes out Cane

Detective Burrow asked Devon and Abby to refer to him by James, which is evidently his first name. He also provided the panicked parents with an update on the search for Dominic. Devon asked if they'd locate him and Mariah, and a cast station outside Oklahoma spotted the two.

Abby's social media cry for help has led to legitimate tips about their whereabouts. It was the most promising information they'd received since their son was taken. The only thing law enforcement knew was that Mariah was headed west on Route 66. The store owner provided police with the vehicle's make and model, bringing them closer than ever to reuniting with their son.

Devon called Sharon to ask whether she knew of any reasons Mariah might head toward California. Sharon hung up the phone, and she told the worried parents she was on her way immediately. Abby suggested using the Newman jet to take all of them to Mariah and Dominic's last known location.

Sharon raced over to the Chancellor mansion, and she couldn't believe the state of her daughter's life. She went from a successful businesswoman to someone being hunted like a serial killer by the federal government.

Mariah and Dominic got lunch at a dinner in an undisclosed location. Dominic took off his hat, which sent Mariah into a frenzy. She demanded that he put the hat back on to avoid blowing their cover. Dominic asked if the game of hide-and-seek was for everyone involved.

Mariah loosened the hat, so it would be more comfortable for him and less itchy. Dominic believed his mom and dad would join him soon, but Mariah confessed there was more of a drive for them. No matter what she told him to further along her plot, Dominic had more questions.

Dominic missed Abby and Devon, and Mariah promised that he'd see them soon. To distract him, she ordered Dominic an ice cream sundae for the drive, hoping to use the sweets to her advantage. Mariah didn't want to spoil the "surprise" for Dominic, but plans changed. Their original destination was off the table, but now she planned to skip the country with him.

Billy asked Phyllis to explain to him what was happening because he was completely lost. She told him that he was on the verge of losing Chancellor, and all plans for the Newman takeover could collapse. Billy felt like Phyllis was human whiplash, since her stance on Billy had taken a drastic turn.

Phyllis revealed to Billy that Victor had Lily and the twins hostage to force Cane into singing over the company. Neither of them were convinced that Victor would ever hurt any of them, but they couldn't knock sense into him. Cane was ready to throw it all away instead of calling Victor's bluff.

Phyllis refused to lose control of Newman after working tirelessly to obtain it. She knew that Billy felt the same about Chancellor, so she pleaded with him to help her keep Newman in her possession. Phyllis insisted that she and Billy were owed this, and she clued him into her plan. They had to prevent Cane from signing over the company, but she needed his help to do it.

Phyllis understood why Billy would be apprehensive about helping her. She was just trashing the idea of giving him the Chancellor, but now she begged for his help. It was a complete about-face, but she needed Billy to latch on to her plan. Phyllis reminded Billy how many times he'd been screwed over by both Victor and Cane. She vowed now to double-cross him as Cane and Jill had.

Billy agreed to Phyllis' plan, under the condition that he would be given Chancellor free and clear. However, he wanted an additional thing: Newman Media handed over to Sally. The request didn't fly with Phyllis, and she initially refused to cave, but it was the only way to get Billy on board.

Phyllis agreed to give Sally the reins at Newman Media, but she needed Billy to serve as a distraction at the Newmans while she executed her plan.

At the ranch, Cane confirmed that he'd return Newman to Victor once his family was given back to him. Victor didn't accept the terms. He wouldn't hand over anything until he received proof that the AI program was destroyed.

Cane said he was a man of his word, but Victor laughed at that idea. They were at an impasse until Newman was firmly back in his family's control. Cane questioned how anyone in the family could be okay with their father's actions. Considering what Abby and Devon were dealing with, it was a bit appalling that they would stage a kidnapping.

Nobody in the Newman family budged. Cane agreed to follow through with the plan, but he needed a couple of hours to schedule the transfer of power. The family was slightly worried that Phyllis would be an obstacle in their reclamation of power, but Cane insisted he'd handle her.

Adam asked Victor what their cooperation cost them. If Lily was truly on board, there was no way she was doing it with nothing in return. Was it Chancellor? Newman Media? The family needed transparency from their patriarch.

Victor told everyone that Lily would get everything that she was promised, but no specifics were given. Adam was grateful to get Newman back. Still, he understood they'd be forced to part with something that was important to them.

Billy showed up and declared he had news about Cane and plans to double-cross the Newmans. Billy told the Newmans that Cane was transferring all of their assets to a different account before handing the company back to them. They wondered how he'd be in the know about this, but Billy claimed that Cane and Phyllis double-crossed him.

After promising Billy control of Chancellor, they ripped it away from him. Billy said that he was toyed with yet again, but they had trouble understanding why he'd run to them about it. Billy claimed he was divulging everything to them as revenge for Phyllis and Cane cutting him out of the deal.

Nikki entertained the idea that Billy was being truthful. She encouraged him not to expect Chancellor in exchange for his coming to her. That begged the question as to why he was there in the first place.

Billy remained steady in his assertion that he was there to get payback against Phyllis and Cane. Besides that, he worried about Lily and her children's well-being. However, Victor kicked him out of the house, and once he was gone, Adam asked Victoria to make sense of her ex-husband's behavior.

Later, on the train, Cane called Amanda and asked her to draw up the paperwork to transfer ownership of Newman back to Victor. He also ordered her to destroy the AI program and eliminate it from cyberspace once and for all. Cane finished up with Amanda, and when he spun around, Phyllis was there waiting for him.

Phyllis told Cane she had thought about it and, after some introspection, realized he was right. Cane needed to save Lily and the kids, and she understood. Phyllis already lost her family. Summer wrote her off, Daniel won't speak to her, and now he is keeping Lucy from her, too.

Phyllis said, "I'd rather lose Newman Enterprises than lose you." However, Cane didn't believe a word that came out of her mouth. Phyllis assured him that she was being genuine because he was the only person who was there for her. Cane brought her into the mix and made her an equal partner, which he didn't have to do

Phyllis kissed Cane, and once she was on top of him on the bed, she chloroformed him and asked him to please forgive her. Billy arrived just in time, with Cane unconscious, which gave them time to change everything to Newman's name. Billy asked for clarification about Chancellor and Newman Media.

Phyllis promised that he and Sally would get everything they wanted. Sally would get an entire company, just in time for Valentine's Day. Billy provided enough of a distraction that the Newmans would be preoccupied while she screwed over Victor and Cane.
