At the Athletic Club, Danny and Daniel discussed the aftermath of Dominic’s kidnapping. Daniel shared that Tessa had filed for divorce, and Danny wondered if that was what had set Mariah off. Daniel defended that Tessa wasn’t responsible for Mariah’s behavior, and Mariah had run out on Tessa on Aria. Daniel wasn’t sure if Tessa would still end the marriage. Danny guessed that Daniel and Tessa had gotten much closer. Daniel said he liked who he was and how he felt when he was with Tessa, and she felt the same way.

Daniel knew what he and Tessa had was special, but it might not matter because Mariah needed her. Danny predicted that it might be a long haul with prison or a psychiatric hospital in Mariah’s future. Daniel was sure Tessa would be there with Mariah every step of the way, since he couldn’t see Tessa walking away. Danny thought Tessa already had. Daniel struggled with how to define his and Tessa’s relationship, and he had no idea what would happen.

Danny assured Daniel that it wasn’t selfish to wonder where he fit in, and he was glad Tessa had helped Daniel recover from losing Heather. Danny argued that Daniel had also gotten himself back into the world again, and it would stay that way. Daniel swore he wouldn’t fall apart if Tessa went back to Mariah, but talking about it wouldn’t change anything because it was out of his control.

At the Chancellor mansion, Abby called out to tell Devon that Dominic was busy with construction in his room, and they weren’t invited in until the boy was ready. She stopped short when she found Devon with Tessa in the living room. Tessa was thankful that everyone was home safe.

Tessa asked if Dominic had had bad dreams. Abby reported that the boy had slept and eaten, and she’d overheard him telling his toys he’d missed them when she’d been sitting outside his room. Devon added that they’d been checking on their son every couple of minutes. Tessa called them warm and loving parents, and she imagined Mariah hated what she’d put them through. Devon voiced surprise that Tessa hadn’t seen Mariah yet.

Tessa revealed that she hadn’t spoken to Mariah, but she’d sat in the back at the arraignment. She reported that Mariah had seemed ashamed, and she knew her wife was horrified by what she’d done. Tessa contended that Mariah felt responsible for Ian returning to town to torture people again, and the guilt had torn Mariah up inside. Devon sympathized that Ian had filled Mariah’s head with stuff while she was growing up.

Tessa pointed out that Mariah had tried to get help, and Abby snapped that the mental facility had failed all of them by not forcing Mariah to stay. Devon agreed that Mariah needed better care, but Tessa worried that prison would do more harm than good. Abby questioned whether Tessa really thought Mariah could bounce back from what had happened. Tessa had to believe Mariah could get well and find peace because Aria needed her other mom. Devon had faith it would happen if Mariah let people in and did the work.

Abby wondered if Tessa was worried about Mariah being around Aria in the meantime. Tessa acknowledged that Mariah hadn’t been herself for a long time, and she’d had no idea Mariah had been getting worse because her wife hadn’t talked to her. Tessa hoped Dominic hadn’t been too traumatized. Devon shared that the boy had shown no signs, but they were keeping an eye on him. Abby admitted that if they found out Dominic was burying the trauma, she might never be able to get past what Mariah had done.

At Crimson Lights, Sharon flipped the sign on the door to “closed” and thanked Christine for getting Mariah released on bail. Christine applauded Mariah for showing honesty during her psychiatric evaluation, since the judge had taken Mariah’s remorse into account and let her stay with Sharon. Christine stressed that Mariah had to wear an ankle monitor and not leave Genoa City without the court’s permission.

Christine pointed out that it was her job to focus on Mariah’s defense, while Sharon and Mariah concentrated on Mariah’s recovery to help the court understand that the answer was treatment and not incarceration. Sharon surmised that Christine would use a psychiatric defense. Christine pointed out that Mariah had been voluntarily receiving treatment before the abduction and never meant Dominic any harm, so she’d plead not guilty. Mariah wailed that there was no defense for what she’d done, and she had to change her plea to guilty.

Sharon stood by Christine’s advice for Mariah to plead not guilty, and Christine intended to argue for probation and intensive counseling. Mariah assumed Christine would use an insanity defense. Christine explained that it was simply a legal term regarding Mariah’s state of mind at the time. Mariah insisted that she’d known what she was doing and that it was wrong, but she’d done it anyway because she’d been desperate for something to make her whole again. Sharon questioned why Mariah had felt that way.

Mariah reiterated that it was her fault that Ian had returned to Genoa City to terrorize people, and it had eaten away at her. She recalled that she’d been drinking and pushing Tessa away, and she’d realized what the answer was when she’d met a man on a work trip who’d reminded her of Ian. Mariah confessed that she’d known she had to kill the man to get Ian out of her life for good, and she’d wanted to do it, but she hadn’t. Mariah explained that she hadn’t been able to reconcile being that evil person with going home to Aria, so she’d gone to Boston.

Mariah continued that she’d started seeing Ian at the clinic, like a vision or hallucination. Sharon asked if Mariah had told her doctors, but Mariah shook her head. Mariah explained that she’d been lonely and needed someone to talk to, and Ian had told her she was exactly like him and that he’d always be there with her. Mariah began to sob, and Sharon inquired whether Ian was there then. Mariah confirmed he wasn’t, since he always caused misery and then disappeared.

Mariah recalled that Ian had told her to go back to where things had gone wrong, and raising Dominic would be the answer to everything. Mariah cried that Ian had led her to make every horrible decision she’d made, but then he’d vanished and taken all the answers with him. Mariah lamented that she didn’t know how she’d live with what she’d done. Sharon promised that the people who loved Mariah would help her heal. Tessa entered the coffeehouse and locked eyes with Mariah.

Christine departed, and Sharon stepped into her office. Mariah mentioned that she’d seen Tessa at the hearing, and she imagined Tessa hated her. Tessa clarified that she hated what Mariah had been through and not being able to help her. Mariah doubted it would have made any difference to let anyone in. Tessa accepted that Mariah felt that way, but she argued that it didn’t make it true.

Mariah inquired about Aria, and Tessa reported that the tot was sweet, loving, and strong. “Just like her mom,” Mariah replied. “Like her moms,” Tessa corrected, sharing that Aria was reaching all her milestones. Mariah murmured that she’d missed all of it, but Tessa insisted that there was still a lifetime ahead. Mariah asked if Daniel had watched out for Tessa as Mariah had requested.

Tessa confirmed that Daniel had been a wonderful friend. Mariah insisted that Tessa deserved fun and peace, not her chaos. Tessa noted that Mariah never asked her what she wanted. Mariah knew Tessa would always do the right thing, but she was adamant that Tessa and Aria move on with their lives. Tessa argued that the decision wasn’t only up to Mariah.

Mariah divulged that Sharon had told her about the divorce, so she already knew what Tessa needed. Tessa accused Mariah of lying to her face when Mariah clearly needed her, yet Mariah kept pushing her away. Tessa tearfully accepted that it had been over between them for a long time, and she declared that Mariah didn’t need to keep pushing her away because she was leaving. Tessa walked out.

Danny showed Daniel photos of his honeymoon as Christine joined them. Christine informed them that Mariah was out on bail and that Tessa was with her at Crimson Lights. Daniel headed out. Christine shared that Mariah wasn’t doing well, but it was clear that Mariah didn’t want to cause anyone more pain. Danny worried about Daniel, who had obviously fallen in love. Outside Society, Daniel and Tessa embraced. She whimpered that she didn’t know what to do. He promised they’d figure it out together.

Meanwhile, Devon considered it odd that Lily had been so out of touch. Abby hoped something stress-free was keeping Lily busy. Abby said she’d been trying to be understanding because Mariah wasn’t well, but she believed Mariah should be held responsible. Devon reasoned that it was up to a judge to decide, but Abby contemplated what would happen if the judge made the wrong decision.

Abby hissed that every ounce of her compassion had gone away and been replaced with rage toward the woman who had taken their son. Abby was concerned that Dominic might be scarred forever, but Devon promised that their son would grow up healthy and happy. There was a knock at the door, and Abby reeled when Devon invited Sharon and Mariah in. Sharon explained that Mariah had been released into her care, but Abby was appalled that the court hadn’t informed her and Devon.

Abby chided Sharon and Mariah for showing up when Dominic was upstairs. Mariah apologized for making a horrible mistake, but Abby snarled that it wasn't just one error. Mariah refused to excuse what she’d done, but she assured them Dominic had never been in danger. Mariah called him the sweetest little boy, and she considered the way he loved his parents beautiful.

Mariah accepted that Dominic had everything he needed to have a magical life with Abby and Devon, and she hoped that one day they could forgive her. Abby growled that she never wanted Mariah around her son ever again.
