Diane and Kyle raced home and found Jack bleeding from a stab wound on the dining room floor. Kyle called 9-1-1 and was shocked to learn someone had already called for help. As paramedics tended to Jack, the police searched the Abbott house and found Patty cowering upstairs, her arms covered in slash marks. Patty claimed that Diane had attacked her and Jack.

Jack was rushed to the hospital. Detective Burrow questioned Diane and Patty, who accused one another of stabbing Jack. Diane was arrested. Burrow later questioned Dr. Markham, who contended that Diane was the dangerous one, while Patty had been rehabilitated. Markham pointed out that Diane had drugged him to escape her psychiatric treatment, and he backed Patty’s story that Diane had likely stabbed Jack and Patty in a rage.

Patty’s reign of terror ends

Patty and Markham realized their lies would be exposed if Jack survived. Dressed as a nurse, Patty sneaked into Jack’s room, preparing to inject him with the contents of a syringe, but a guard interrupted. As Patty ran out of the room, Diane and Kyle spotted her and chased after her. Diane pinned Patty up against a wall, but Patty plunged the syringe into Diane’s neck. A security guard apprehended Patty as Kyle carried a semiconscious Diane to get help.

Jack woke up and insisted on making a statement to clear Diane’s name. Jack worried that Diane still wouldn’t be able to forgive him. Kyle learned that Patty had injected Diane with digitalis, which could stop the heart, but the doctors successfully administered a drug to counteract it. Patty was taken into custody, and Jack and Diane joyfully reconciled.

Victor allowed Nikki to recover from her optic nerve surgery at the Newman ranch, but he arranged for her to stay in a separate room. Victor and Nikki continued to dismiss their family’s pleas for them to reconcile. Nikki struggled to adjust to getting around without being able to see.

Nick and Adam were stunned when Victor announced that he was putting Victoria in charge of Newman Enterprises. Victor urged Nick to focus on his recovery. Adam wondered where his place in the company was, and he suggested that he and Chelsea take over Arabesque. Victor revealed that he’d given Arabesque to Phyllis and was planning to go after Spectra-Charles. Adam refused to hurt a pregnant Sally by being part of a hostile takeover.

Jill admitted to Billy that she hadn’t trusted him to run Chancellor because of his gambling history, but she swore she still believed in him. Jill convinced Billy to return with her to London to spend some time repairing their relationship.

Holden happily accepted a job offer from Cane to work at Chancellor. Claire objected to Holden’s decision, but they resolved to keep their personal and business lives separate. Phyllis agreed to go on a date with Matt.
