What happened on The Young and the Restless

At Society, Cane was shocked that Lily wanted him to run Chancellor Industries for her. Lily explained that Chancellor was no longer her passion, and Victor had allowed her to see that she belonged at Winters. Lily thought becoming CEO would give Cane a chance to make a fresh start and do things the right way. Malcolm entered the restaurant, and Lily rushed over to hug him.
Malcolm assured Lily that he’d convinced his doctors to let him travel to thank her in person for being there to support him. Malcolm requested to speak with Cane privately, and Lily stepped away. Malcolm thanked Cane for saving his life, but he suspected Cane had done it as a grand gesture for Lily. Cane confirmed it was true.
Cane continued that he wished he’d been able to do something like that for his own father. Cane recalled that he and Colin had made peace in the end, but he’d always felt like there was more he could have done. Cane thought helping Malcolm had been his way of working through his regret. Malcolm gushed that he would always be grateful that Cane had given him his life back. The men shook hands as Lily watched.
Malcolm asked where things stood between Cane and Lily. Cane shared that they were friends and possible business partners, but he wanted them to be more. Cane acknowledged that he had to earn Lily and Malcolm’s trust back, and he swore that he loved her and would do everything he could to prove he was the man she’d fallen in love with. Malcolm warned that if Cane hurt her again in any way, he would deal with Malcolm. Lily returned, and Malcolm revealed that he’d be in town for a day or two to get to know Holden.
Cane agrees to run Chancellor Industries

After Malcolm left, Cane relayed Malcolm’s warning not to hurt Lily, and he pledged never to hurt her again. Over a meal, Lily was surprised to hear Cane had gotten hooked on a vampire-themed TV show, and she remarked that he had too much time on his hands. She pressed for an answer to her job offer. He confided that he’d been planning a different kind of comeback before Malcolm’s surgery.
Cane shared that Amanda had informed him that the D.A. had dropped the charges against him, but Lily worried that Victor wasn’t done trying to make him pay. Lily prompted Cane to share his other plan, but he balked at saying more because he didn’t want to give her any reasons not to trust him. Cane promised that he’d be honest from then on, and he accepted Lily’s job offer.
Stephanie gets a job offer

At the Chancellor Park Café, Claire wondered if it would be strange for Holden to go to the opening of Noah’s new club, given the bad memories he had with Audra at the original Shadow Club. Holden pointed out that there were also good memories from the club, like spending time there with Claire. He insisted that the bad stuff that had happened in L.A. was in the past, and he wanted to live for the present and future. They made plans to go to Noah’s club that night.
Stephanie approached and announced that she’d just had a meeting with the board of Genoa City Memorial Hospital, and they’d offered her a position as chief of staff. Stephanie hoped it would be a chance to be closer to her son and make up for the secret she’d kept for years, but she wondered if Holden wanted her there. Holden swore that he’d already forgiven his mother and was thrilled. As Holden and Stephanie hugged, Malcolm approached and asked if he could join in.
Holden introduced his father to Claire, who was pleased when Malcolm saw a resemblance to Victoria in her eyes. After Claire departed, Stephanie noted that she’d never seen Holden like that with a girl before. Malcolm thanked Holden and Stephanie for giving him his life back. Holden wished he had been the one who’d helped Malcolm. Malcolm said the fact that Holden had wanted to help meant more than he could ever say.
Father and son bond

Stephanie left to do some shopping, and Malcolm and Holden playfully bantered about their favorite baseball teams. Malcolm recognized that he wouldn’t learn everything he wanted to know about his son in one day. Malcolm mentioned that Stephanie had made it sound like Holden didn’t know what he wanted for his future. Holden confirmed that he’d been floating around a bit, but he always landed on his feet.
Malcolm suggested that the Winters family company could be part of Holden’s future, but Holden doubted that Devon and Nate would welcome him into the family business. Malcolm offered to put in a good word for Holden.
Victor sics Matt on Cane

At the new Newman ranch, Matt asked what test Victor had in mind for him to make amends. Nick was floored when Victor stated that he wanted Matt to live on the property in an empty ranch hand’s apartment close to the stables. Victor assigned Matt to take care of a problem – Cane Ashby.
Victor instructed Matt to befriend Cane, become an invaluable ally to him, and then inform Victor about Cane’s every move so Victor could crush him. Matt refused to hurt anyone, but Victor clarified that he wasn’t talking about physical violence but just getting even with Cane for taking his company from him. Matt was reluctant to revert to being the guy everyone hated.
Victor pointed out that Matt’s alternative was prison. Nick objected to Victor’s plan because he didn’t want to see Matt change back into the evil person he’d once been. Victor contended that Cane had caused egregious harm to their family, and he considered the task to be Matt’s chance to redeem himself. Matt asserted that he owed amends to Nick before anyone else, and he asked what Nick wanted him to do.
Nick agreed to go along with Victor’s plan. Victor explained that if Matt became an ally against their enemies, the Newmans would not testify against him in Las Vegas, and Victor would make sure the federal charges were dropped. Victor noted that his other option was to turn Matt in, but Matt hesitated to lose his soul again by signing on to Victor’s deal. Victor demanded to know Matt’s decision. Matt agreed to do it.
Later, Adam arrived at the ranch, and Victor and Nick filled him in about the deal with Matt. Adam questioned whether the change in Matt was real. Nick admitted that he was on the fence about the plan. Victor argued that Matt could have escaped instead of saving Nick’s life, and he believed his plan was a way to find out if Matt’s redemption was legitimate.
