At the new Newman ranch, Victor left a message for Adam, requesting an update on the hunt for Matt. Victoria arrived, having just returned from Milan. Victoria reported that Summer had been adamant about not wanting to see or speak to Phyllis, but Victoria couldn’t wait to hand Phyllis a scathing letter Summer had written. Victor revealed that while Victoria had been gone, he’d managed to get Chancellor back.

Victor clarified that Phyllis still owned the main Newman entities – but she wouldn’t for long. Victoria assumed he had another plan in the works and that Nikki had been thrilled when he’d handed Chancellor back to her. Victor announced that Nikki wasn’t going to get it back, and he informed Victoria that her mother had moved out.

Victoria guessed that Nikki had left because of Jack. Victor barked that Nikki thought Jack’s well-being was more important than the steps Victor had needed to take to get his empire back. Victor insisted that Jack was fine, but Nikki hadn’t agreed that the ends justified the means. Victoria was confused about why Nikki had been angry enough to leave if Jack was unharmed.

Victor asserted that Nikki blamed him for things Jack had done, and he wouldn’t tolerate her criticizing him or defending Jack in that house. Victoria inquired whether Nikki had left on her own or if Victor had thrown her out. Victoria didn’t want to believe the rift was irreparable. Victor admitted it might be – unless Nikki realized whose side she should stand on.

Noah's arc

At Crimson Lights, Sharon handed Noah a scone and considered adding it to the menu. He surmised that she was giving him an incentive not to move back to London. Noah recognized her “worried mom look” and assumed she was concerned about his dad. Nikki approached and inquired whether Sharon had heard from Nick. Sharon reported that Nick and Adam had been in touch with Riza as their first step to try to find Matt. Noah vowed to find Matt himself if they didn’t make progress soon.

Nikki fretted that Nick was playing with fire. Noah wished he’d also gone to Las Vegas, but Nikki groaned that the last thing they needed was both father and son being in danger. Nikki wished she’d tried harder to convince Nick not to go, but Sharon doubted either one of them would have been able to do so. Nikki grumbled that she was surrounded by a family of stubborn mules who were intent on making life difficult.

Noah presented Nikki with a package he’d had flown in from London. She found a Billie Holiday recording inside, and he remembered his grandmother praising the singer’s voice. He revealed that it was from a performance of a live 1959 show that had taken place at the site of his London club, and it had been found in a storage room. Noah mentioned that he’d stopped by the ranch to give it to her, and he’d learned she’d moved out.

Nikki assured Noah that she’d only taken an overnight bag because she and Victor needed a break from one another. Noah called his grandparents’ marriage the gold standard, noting that they were equal in every way. Nikki figured that it was good to get distance after an argument to avoid doing or saying something they might regret. Nikki turned the topic to how Faith was doing, and Sharon reported that her youngest daughter had gotten a coveted internship at a New York City investment firm. Nikki was grateful that Faith was blissfully unaware of the chaos at home.

Nikki inquired how Sharon was holding up with the tough time Mariah had been having. Sharon replied that she was trying to stay strong, and it helped to know their family always pulled together when it mattered most. Sienna joined them, and she and Noah stepped to the patio. Nikki received a text message from Victoria, who wanted to meet. Nikki headed out.

Sienna showed Noah a text message she’d received from “Mr. Bacall,” asking if “Mrs. Bacall” missed him as much as he missed her. She panicked because Matt had gotten her new number. Noah assured Sienna that Matt was just messing with their heads, but she fretted that she was a nervous wreck, not knowing if Matt would show up. Noah informed her that Adam and Nick had been in touch with Riza. Sienna suddenly realized that Matt might have set up his text messages to “R” as a red herring to get Nick out of town and leave her and Noah vulnerable.

At the Athletic Club, Victoria pressed to hear Nikki’s side of the story. Nikki clucked that Victor had crossed a line she couldn’t accept. Victoria wondered what her father had done that had been unforgivable, noting that his plan had partially worked because Phyllis had returned Katherine's company, Chancellor Industries, to Victor. Nikki revealed that Victor had nearly cost Jack his marriage, since something had happened on the yacht to make Diane move out of the Abbott home.

Victoria didn’t see how Jack’s actions could have been her father’s fault when Victor hadn’t been on the yacht. Nikki reiterated that what Victor had done had been unconscionable, and it was time he was taught a lesson.

Lily is back in Genoa City and has to explain

At the Chancellor estate, Devon and Nate warmly welcomed Lily home. Devon hoped the twins would be in town for a while, but Lily indicated that her children had decided it would be better to get on with their lives. Devon asked if Victor had held Lily and her kids against their will. Lily swore she’d tell them everything, but she wanted to hear about Mariah taking Dominic first. Devon realized that Lily had known what he’d been going through, yet she hadn’t answered his many calls.

Lily claimed that she hadn’t had her phone, but she’d seen Devon’s messages later. Devon groused that he hadn’t slept the whole time Dominic had been gone, and he still hadn’t slept after his son’s return because he’d been worried about Lily and her kids. Lily hoped that Devon and Nate would understand why she’d needed to keep them in the dark. Lily explained that the alleged kidnapping had been a ruse to force Cane’s hand with Newman Enterprises.

Nate realized that Victoria had known about the hoax when Cane had confronted her. Lily confirmed that she and Victor had needed to make Cane believe she and the twins were in danger to convince him to give the company back. Devon snapped that her family had believed it, too. Lily said she was sorry, but Devon and Nate blasted her for intentionally putting her family through a nightmare that hadn’t been real.

Lily acknowledged that what she’d done was wrong, but she also believed it had been the right thing. She reasoned that Cane had been out of control since he’d returned to town, and stealing Newman had been a new low. Devon questioned when she’d become Victor’s champion, but Lily defended that she’d also been thinking about Abby and Dominic. Devon pointed out that their family had enough money, and he chided Lily for putting them through “hell.” He spat that it was no better than the despicable things Cane had done.

Cane and Lily have unfinished business

Lily reasoned that she hadn’t been able to risk Cane finding out the truth, so she and the twins had gotten rid of their phones to avoid being tempted to tell anyone. Nate was still livid that she’d made them worry, but he conceded that she was right about Cane hounding them if he had suspected anything. Devon couldn’t fathom why Lily would help Victor after the many times he’d screwed her over. Lily explained that it had seemed like an excellent deal to regain control of Chancellor, fold it into their family business, and stop Cane from trying to take over every other company in town.

Nate sensed that the deal had fallen through, and Devon wondered how much harm Victor had to cause before Lily stopped trusting him. Lily relayed that Victor had promised the setback would be rectified soon, and he owed them after she and the twins had sacrificed weeks of their lives to help him. Devon countered that Victor didn’t care about anything except what he wanted. Devon told Lily to walk away because she never should have made the deal, and he imagined she’d only done it to stick it to her ex.

Devon huffed that Katherine would roll over in her grave if she knew what Lily was doing. Nate griped that the kidnapping plan had all been for nothing, but Lily was determined to see it through until Phyllis gave Newman back. Nate asked how Cane had reacted when he’d found out he’d been duped. Lily confirmed that her ex-husband wanted nothing to do with her. Devon urged Lily to cut her losses and walk away from her deal with Victor for all of their sakes.

Cane's angst

At Society, Cane sat at the bar. He watched the video he’d made for Lily, promising to stay out of her life because she deserved all the happiness in the world. Cane slammed down his phone and chugged his drink. “That is a promise I will not have a problem keeping,” he muttered.

Cane ordered another drink as Victor approached. Victor imagined Cane was happy that Lily and the twins were safe and sound. Cane hissed that Victor would regret the “hell” he’d put Cane through. “You ain’t seen nothing yet,” Victor replied.

Cane revealed that he knew about the fake abduction scheme because Nikki had ratted Victor out. Cane admitted that the fact Lily and his kids had gone along with it had shown a level of contempt he hadn’t expected, and he was curious how Victor had convinced Lily to do it. Victor chuckled and raised his glass.

Victor taunted that he’d had no reason to offer Lily anything, since she’d been more than willing to let Victor torture Cane. Victor suggested that Cane go back to France, but Cane figured there would be no one left in town to challenge the great Victor Newman. Cane pledged to make a serious change in his life, but he refused to go anywhere.

Cane contemplated burning down the whole town just for fun, and he declared that drinks were on him before he walked away. “Get ready for more, boy. I’ll make your life a living hell,” Victor vowed.
