Over dinner at the Athletic Club, Adam and Chelsea opted to take their meals home because neither of them had an appetite. Adam recognized that their family wouldn’t starve, but he hated that they were both unemployed. They commiserated over trying to log into the Newman Media platform, only to be directed to Spectra-Charles Media’s website. Chelsea lamented that she was starting to think they’d never get the company back.

Chelsea sympathized with how the loss of the family company had affected the Newmans. Adam admired Chelsea’s compassion for everyone around her – especially his family. She declared that she considered herself a Newman, and that hadn’t changed just because their fortunes had. Adam took her hand and mused that his fortune was right there.

Chelsea recognized that the hostile takeover had hit Adam harder than anyone, since he’d put everything into proving himself at work. Adam conceded that it had been his way to show he was worthy, but he’d realized he needed to show up with love to earn it in return. Chelsea thought Victor was most proud of Adam for being a good father to Connor. Adam bemoaned that Connor might have to live on love with their family’s legacy in ashes.

Chelsea contemplated what the future looked like if Newman Enterprises was really gone. Adam considered becoming a professional hockey player, but Chelsea protested that he was too pretty. Adam recalled his days as a card shark, and Chelsea referred to her past as a con. They pictured what it would be like to hit the tables again. Adam compared it to the high-stakes corporate game they’d played every day.

Chelsea chirped that she and Adam wouldn’t be stuck in an office all day as card sharks, and she pictured them at the tables in Monte Carlo. They tossed around ideas about how they could count cards and launder counterfeit chips. Adam guessed that she’d ran similar scams before, and Chelsea replied that the best cons were the ones where the marks didn’t know they’d been conned. He thanked her for reminding him how lucky he was to have her on his side.

Adam thought he and Chelsea should keep their contingency plan local, since Connor had settled into a life in Genoa City. Adam gleefully imagined running a gaming table where they’d get Billy to bet and lose Chancellor. Chelsea admitted that she was glad their card sharking and con days were behind them, since she’d only done those things because she’d had no one in her life she could trust. Adam pledged to hold onto the love and trust they had in one another to get to the other side. Chelsea vowed to do whatever it took to give Connor the life he needed and deserved.

Billy comes clean with Phyllis

At Newman Enterprises, Phyllis reprimanded Billy for interrupting her conversation with Daniel, but Billy insisted it was very important. She snapped that he’d get the Chancellor contract when he got it, and she had work to do. Billy contended that everything had changed, and signing the contract was a matter of life or death. He revealed that Victor had taken Jack, and he’d never see his brother again if he didn’t give Chancellor back.

Phyllis argued that Victor had tried to do the same thing to Cane but failed miserably. Billy reminded her that Cane had been about to hand over everything until she’d stabbed him in the back. Phyllis told Billy to relax and run along, but he reiterated that Jack was in danger. Billy pointed out that Victor hated Jack more than anyone, and Victor was dangerous because he’d lost everything and was desperately trying to hold onto his legacy. Billy begged Phyllis to sign the contracts so he could get his brother back.

Phyllis thought Billy was overreacting. He ranted that he didn’t care about Chancellor, and all he wanted was to sign the contract and hand the company over to Victor. Billy accused Phyllis of stalling to hold onto Chancellor for herself, and he speculated that she intended to give the company to Daniel to reunite her family. Billy ordered her to get the contract signed within an hour, and he stalked out.

Diane demands action

Billy met Diane and Kyle at Crimson Lights and informed them that Phyllis hadn’t promised anything, even though he’d told her Jack had been kidnapped. He relayed that he’d given her an hour to give him the contract. Diane was appalled that Phyllis wanted to keep her claws in Chancellor while a man’s life was hanging in the balance. Billy considered the possibility that it wasn’t, since they didn’t have proof that Victor had Jack. Diane insisted that they do something because she sensed Jack was in danger, and he needed them.

Diane pressured Billy to get the contract signed and turn Chancellor over to Victor. Billy groaned that he’d been close to getting everything he wanted, only for Victor to take it away again. Diane incredulously asked if he was making it about himself. Kyle blasted Billy for putting his own interest over those of their family. Billy struggled with losing everything if Victor was playing him, but Kyle countered that Victor might not be.

Billy sent a text message to Victor, agreeing to give Chancellor back if Victor provided proof he had Jack. Kyle doubted Victor would be foolish enough to send proof that he’d kidnapped Jack. Billy received an attachment from an unknown number with a picture of Jack, who appeared to be unconscious. Diane recognized the shirt Jack was wearing as the same shirt she’d last seen him in.

At the Newman ranch, Victor handed Phyllis a drink, and she toasted to their future. He suggested that she admit the error of her ways and make things right, but Phyllis refused to give up Newman Enterprises. She asked if what she’d heard about Jack was true. Victor huffed that it was between him and Billy, but Phyllis revealed that Billy didn’t own Chancellor – she did, so Victor had to negotiate with her.

Victor stressed that it wasn’t a negotiation but a demand for Chancellor Industries in exchange for Jack. Phyllis doubted Victor would do anything to Jack, but Victor asked if she was willing to take that chance. Victor pointed out that she’d been married to Jack, and he questioned whether she was willing to save her ex or if she was going to turn her back on him as she had on many other people.

Phyllis conceded that she didn’t want to be responsible for something terrible happening to Jack. She offered to make a deal, but Victor stressed that it wasn’t a negotiation. Phyllis welcomed Victor to take control of Chancellor once he released Jack, Lily, and the twins. Victor was suspicious about how quickly she was willing to give in, and he asked what was in it for her.

Phyllis explained that she just wanted her kids to love her, and perhaps Daniel and Summer wouldn’t think she was such a monster if she gave up Chancellor to get Jack and the Winters family released. Victor realized she was willing to screw Billy over, and he requested that she give him an hour. He trusted her to draw up the papers, but he warned her that the deal would be off if she tried to negotiate again.

On a yacht, Jack was stunned to face Patty. She assured him that he didn’t have to be afraid because she was there in peace. Patty warned him not to make a break for it because they were alone in the middle of a lake, and there was nowhere to go. Jack asked how he’d gotten there, since she was supposed to be in a maximum-security psychiatric facility with no chance of getting out. Patty announced that she was a changed woman, and she was there to make amends.

Patty explained that it had taken years of hard work with the right combination of medication and therapy, but she’d been rehabilitated. Jack questioned the success of her rehabilitation, given that he was locked up against his will. Patty noted that he was back with Diane, so he had to have a big appetite for forgiveness, and she was just asking him to spread some her way. She claimed that she was there to look him in the eyes and ask him to open his heart a tiny bit. “To you? Never,” Jack replied.

Patty accepted that she’d done damage to Jack and his family, and she wanted to help him heal. She observed that he looked good but a little out of sorts, and she promised she’d be back. After Patty exited the room, Jack predicted that whatever she was up to wasn’t good.

Patty wheeled in a cart with food and drinks. Jack barked that he wasn’t interested in anything she was serving. Patty reasoned that he shouldn’t go hungry because of her past sins, and she volunteered to sample his food and drink to prove they hadn’t been poisoned. Patty poured two drinks, but Jack refused the one Patty offered him. She sipped it and declared it delicious. She surmised that he was expecting her to switch the drinks, and she drank from the other glass, as well.

Patty removed the lid from a plate of food and took a bite. She lectured that Jack starving himself wouldn’t help, and he demanded to know what she was after. Patty recalled that the work she’d done on herself had been gut-wrenching, and it had brought her to her knees to accept that what she’d done to him and his family had been inhuman. Patty shared that she’d expected to spend the rest of her days stripped raw, but she’d realized she had the choice to rebuild herself into a human being.

Jack claimed that Patty had made a persuasive argument for redemption and forgiveness. He conceded that he’d done his share of things that had needed to be forgiven, and he’d been given second chances. He swigged his drink and said he could see his way to believe and even forgive her, but it would take more than just words. Jack pressed Patty to take him to shore. Patty smiled, leaned in close, and said she was sorry, but it wasn’t an option because she wasn’t the one in charge.
