At the cottage, Sharon was on a call with Mariah, who seemed to be doing well while seeking care at the psychiatric facility. Nick and Noah arrived as Sienna descended the stairs. Nick reported that Matt was alive and in Genoa City.

Noah described the events that had unfolded at the café. Sienna took it in stride that her psychotic ex-husband had punched her boyfriend, and she seemed more perplexed to hear about Audra’s presence at the scene. Sharon asked if they’d called the police, but Nick preferred that Newman security track Matt down. Nick vowed to deal with Matt himself (because his own efforts to date have been so much more successful than going through the proper channels).

Noah shared that Matt had acted like he didn’t know who Noah was, and Matt had claimed to know nothing about an explosion or what he’d put their family through. Sienna recalled that she’d bashed Matt’s head in with a rock so hard that she’d thought she’d killed him, so a head injury with lasting consequences was a possibility. Nick growled that it didn’t matter whether Matt’s amnesia was real or fake because he was going down. Nick stepped outside to calm down, and he pledged to keep it together.

Sharon speculated that perhaps Matt’s memory loss was a ploy to drive them crazy, trying to guess what he was up to. Noah regretted blowing the chance to stop Matt, but he was glad he’d calmed down enough to ask Audra to try to call for help. Sienna questioned why Noah and Audra had been at the café together.

Noah explained that he’d simply run into Audra, who had sold him on the calming tea he’d picked up for Sienna. He considered it a good thing that Audra had witnessed his encounter with Matt. Noah thought he should check in on Audra, who might be shaken up. Sienna fumed as Sharon suggested that he see if Audra remembered anything else.

Takes a con to spot a con

At the new Newman ranch, Adam admitted to Chelsea that going back to Las Vegas had stirred up adrenaline, and he’d felt the pull back into the game, but he scoffed at the idea of abandoning his life to go on the road as a poker player. He pointed out that he’d just turned down Riza’s offer to go back, but Chelsea noted the intimate change in his tone when Riza had called. Adam swore that he had no interest in having a relationship with Riza personally or professionally because he was committed to his life with Chelsea and Connor.

Victor and Christine walked in. Victor anticipated the case against Phyllis and Cane wouldn’t be difficult to prove, but Christine cited the evolving laws around cybercrimes and the history of bad blood between the parties involved. She was adamant that everything be done by the book. After Christine left, Victor looked forward to watching Phyllis unravel while the wheels of justice turned their way.

Chelsea doubted Phyllis and Cane had been stupid enough to leave a digital trail, and she questioned whether the emails had been fabricated. Chelsea warned that the Newmans could be in serious legal jeopardy if they’d known the emails were fake when they’d handed them over. Adam declared that the authenticity of the documents was irrelevant, and they had to get back what had been stolen. Nick burst in and announced that Noah had run into Matt in the park, so they needed Victor’s help.

After Victor placed a call, Nick theorized that Matt had been playing a mind game by pretending not to recognize Noah. Victor was puzzled as to why Matt would show himself so brazenly when he had to know there would be consequences. Nick warned that Matt didn’t make mistakes, and things weren’t adding up.

Later, Nick and Adam looked around Chancellor Park but found no sign of Matt. Nick’s anger intensified as he thought about how Matt kept getting away with ruining people’s lives. Adam urged his brother to be honest about whether he needed a pill. Nick ranted that he was allowed to be upset, and he chalked his irritability up to not having eaten.

Adam cited keeping an eye on hunger as part of dealing with addiction, and he headed inside the café to fetch Nick a sandwich. Nick plopped down at table and reached into his pocket. He pulled out a baggie with a single pill and practically salivated as he stared at it.

Phyllis continues to be her own worst enemy

Over lunch at the Athletic Club, Phyllis thanked Lauren for her support. Phyllis wondered if they could use Victor’s past crimes against him, and she inquired whether Michael had ever divulged anything. Michael overheard and reprimanded Phyllis for trolling for privileged information. Michael indicated that he’d obtained unredacted copies of the incriminating emails, and a digital forensics expert had concluded the evidence was authentic. Phyllis lamented that she was screwed.

Michael explained that the emails had been generated within Chancellor when Phyllis had still been in control of the company, and they appeared to have been sent from a password-protected account on a secure server. Michael added that the language mimicked her personal style, and Phyllis protested that it was what AI did. He continued that even if they found a way to prove AI had created the emails, the prosecution could use the same evidence to prove Phyllis had also used AI to steal Newman Enterprises from Victor.

Michael thought it was clear they were at a standoff. Phyllis accused him of sidestepping to placate Victor, but Michael countered that it was his job as her attorney to let her know what she was up against. Phyllis gave him a week to devise a better strategy, or she’d find a new attorney. Michael cautioned that no one else would represent her, and the case was close to being unwinnable. He swore that he was protecting her from herself, and he was the only lawyer crazy enough to accomplish it.

Lauren urged Phyllis to cut her losses and make a deal to give the company back in exchange for Victor withdrawing the charges. Phyllis refused to fold. Michael pointed out that Christine might not agree to drop the charges. Christine entered the club, and Phyllis sauntered over to chat with the new D.A. Phyllis contended that Christine had been bought by Victor to help get his company back, and she asked if Christine wanted to start her new term as Victor’s puppet.

Phyllis threatened to go to the media to make sure everyone knew Christine was in Victor’s back pocket. Michael and Lauren interrupted to implore Phyllis to walk away. Christine dared Phyllis to make good on her threats, since she’d sue for defamation and win, and Phyllis would then be in prison and broke.
