The Young and the Restless gave viewers a bit of levity amidst the chaos of the heavy, dramatic storylines on Tuesday, May 26. Ironically, the laughs came from the most dangerous character on the canvas -- Matt Clark!

Thanks for the amnesia, The Young and the Restless

Amnesia is one of the soap world's oldest story twists. Someone can't remember who they are, only to figure it out, and then they lie about remembering until they're exposed.

That may be where Y&R is going with Matt Clark (Roger Howarth), but we're fairly certain that the bad guy isn't faking things just yet. He truly doesn't remember who he is, and it's been pretty humorous watching him process clues to his past.

Is there anyone who thinks faster on her feet in Genoa City, by the way, than Phyllis (Michelle Stafford)? It's a treat watching her wheels spin as Phyllis takes that tiny beat when confronted with a conflict. She'll either spin a lie so fast it makes our heads spin, or she will offer up some version of the truth, deciding to roll the dice on whether or not honesty is the best policy.

Phyllis left a lengthy message on Matt's phone, telling her that she cares about him, prompting him to visit her at Newman Enterprises, pardon us (!), Summers Conglomorate!

We had it all, just like Bogey and...Clark

Patty (Stacy Haiduk) had armed Matt with enough knowledge for him to confront Phyllis about her backstabbing. Phyllis gave Matt just enough information and false information to keep him guessing.

She revealed to him that he had had a wife named "Sienna" (Tamara Braun). We knew for certain that Matt wasn't faking his amnesia when he spoke out loud, "Sienna Clark!" (As opposed to her true handle, Sienna Bacall!) He couldn't place the name, and why would he?

Phyllis also informed Matt that his now ex-spouse had been having an affair with one of the men in the Newman family. Matt steeled himself, wondering if it was Victor (Eric Braeden) or Nick (Joshua Morrow) who had bedded his wife.

Phyllis went on to inform Matt that his ex's lover was Noah Newman (Lucas Adams). She put out her hand with her palm facing down (and not very high up!) as if to comment on Noah's height. Having met Noah (when Noah attacked him outside of Chancellor Park Cafe), an incredulous Matt also held out his hand at about the same height, shocked that Noah would be the one who was sleeping with his wife, even though Matt couldn't remember her -- or her name! (Not for nothing, but both Phyllis and Matt are not accurately recalling Noah's height!)

As comical as Matt's reactions were (kudos to Howarth and Stafford for bringing whimsy to their roles), Y&R, at the end of the day, is a dramatic series. Hence, Victor and Nick showed up, and the stage is set for the Newmans to confront and deal with Matt Clark once and for all!
