The Young and the Restless battle between Victor and Phyllis claimed a new victim as Jack ended up literally adrift and found himself facing one of his ex-wives, Patty Williams!

What happened on The Young and the Restless

This past week on The Young and the Restless gave us a mix of surprise moves, some of the better, some for the worse. Topping the list of the better was the reunion between Sally (Courtney Hope) and Billy (Jason Thompson). Sally showed up for dinner with Billy, figuring it was going to be a farewell meal.

Billy put his heart on his sleeve and gently pointed out to Sally that there was no reason why he couldn’t run Chancellor, and she could run Spectra/Charles Media – the new name for the newest media company in Genoa City – and at the end of the day, they’d share their lives.

Sally thought it over and realized that this was worth giving a try. We’d been teased recently with scenes between Sally and her ex, Adam (Mark Grossman), and we were wondering if Sally and Adam were going to give it another go.

Frankly, we like the current pairings of Sally and Billy, and Adam and Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan). Maybe it’s chemistry. Maybe it’s history. Maybe it’s that we just like the idea of Connor (Judah Mackey) having his parents together. Let’s not forget, however, that conflict is the basis for drama and soaps. Perhaps, we’ll get that Sally/Adam pairing yet!

The Great Graziadei

Check out our Performer of the Week for Michael Graziadei’s Daniel Romalotti here. The man continues to be the voice of reason in Genoa City. It’s really too bad that Daniel doesn’t have more power. Daniel’s body language betrays the fact that he thinks that it's a waste of time when he visits Cane (Billy Flynn) and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford). But Graziadei plays his character as someone who knows he has to try. Daniel fires off cynical remarks while trying to keep an open mind on that outside chance that he can actually reach his mother.

We can’t help but think that if Daniel got a hold of that AI (Artificial Intelligence) program that he’d destroy it, and everyone would have to go back to competing in business by earning their wins, the old-fashioned way!

Understandably, Daniel was a bit uncomfortable when Sharon wanted to put things on the table regarding Daniel and Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) and Mariah (Camryn Grimes). Sharon wants Mariah to be okay. Losing her wife to Daniel could send her back over the edge. Yikes!

Highs and Valleys of the Pills

Joshua Morrow continues to deliver as Nick recovers from the leg surgery that he needed after Matt Clark (Roger Howarth) caused his car to crash. On some days, Nick appears just fine. Others, we see him uncertain and wincing in pain. He’s got to be on pills, right?

Nick is the type of guy who likes to take care of everyone, and he’s not dropping that, especially now that Matt is on the loose and he’s sending cryptic, threatening texts.

We have a feeling there’s a showdown coming up between these two longtime enemies. Will Nick’s addiction give Matt the edge? Or will Nick trick Matt into thinking that he has the upper hand?

Shifting dynamics

It wasn’t that long ago that Claire (Hayley Erin) and Holden (Nathan Owens) were developing their relationship into a full-fledged romance! Their trip to LA led to some hot sex between them, and they seemed quite compatible. Claire said she wasn’t looking for anything serious, but then, she wanted Holden to be very serious and truthful about what happened in LA with Audra (Zuleyka Silver).

Holden covered for himself and his friend, but Claire couldn’t accept that, so they parted ways. What Claire hasn’t let go of is her animosity towards Audra! Audra’s trying to get Claire to simmer down, but that doesn’t appear to be happening.

Now, we have Kyle (Michael Mealor) and Claire teaming up while Audra and Holden are forming an alliance. Just how far is Claire going to go to get the dirt on Audra? Vicki, Claire’s mom, seems to think that her daughter is a good person, despite her being brought up by her evil Aunt Jordan (Colleen Zenk). We’re thinking that Victoria is a smidge biased.

The First and Last Wives Club

Diane (Susan Walters) is on fire! She’s moving heaven and earth to find Jack. She’s angry, and she’s not going to rest until Jack is back home, safe and sound. Diane is taking no prisoners as she walks into Victor’s home and Phyllis’s (Michelle Stafford) office, demanding that action be taken and that Jack be brought home safely.

When Diane gets angry, she does what many people do, and that is to imitate someone she’s really steamed over! She mocked Nikki’s (Melody Thomas Scott) helpless whisper to Jack recently when she was fed up with Victor’s wife not helping the Abbotts. Last week, she fired off a bit of a Victor impersonation when she was furious with him! Don’t like being imitated? Don’t get on Diane’s bad side!

Jack’s reunion with Patty was surprising. Sure, the show announced that Stacy Haiduk was returning as Patty Williams, but we thought her first appearance back might be at the asylum where she’s been residing.

Instead, she popped up on this isolated small yacht that Jack is currently calling home. We can’t wait for Jack and Patty to get on dry land so that Diane and Patty can start sharing the screen!

Law & Disorder

Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) taunting Victor (Eric Braeden) is downright criminal on The Young and the Restless | Image: CBS

It still boggles our minds that nobody’s calling the police or the lawyers regarding Cane’s AI program. Phyllis can go on all she wants about all the underhanded deals Victor’s pulled. While those moves have been immoral or unethical, have they been illegal? Phyllis taking the AI program and using it against Victor definitely is illegal!

Why hasn’t Victor called Michael Baldwin (Christian LeBlanc) and have him go after Phyllis? The fiery red head would feel deeply betrayed if her pal allied himself with Victor on this.

The success of any business story hinges on making it believable and by showing how the business dealings affect interpersonal relationships.

Y&R’s on fire right now, regarding the latter. But the unlawful use of the AI program and all the kidnapping stretches credibility in terms of reality!
