The Young and the Restless threw viewers a surprise twist when an amnesiac Matt Clark ended up saving the life of his nemesis, Nick Newman. Matt's move certainly surprised us as we didn't know he had any kind of medical training! What if Victor repays Matt by forgiving him for all the crimes he's committed against his family?

Don't forgive or forget, The Young and the Restless

Sienna (Tamara Braun), Noah (Lucas Adams), Victor (Eric Braeden), Sharon (Sharon Case), and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) didn't know what to do when Nick passed out in Victor's office as they were confronting Matt Clark (Roger Howarth). Sharon's a therapist, but probably hasn't had specific medical training. Victor's security team that came in at the end of the show likely wasn't far away. They probably know CPR, but no one stepped forward to help Nick except Matt.

He never would have helped Matt if he knew who he was and who Nick was, so that's one reason Matt aided Nick. But how did Matt know what to do? Was it a simple CPR course? Does he have medical training that we (not to mention Matt, himself) don't know about?

The important thing is that Matt saved Nick. He came to. Paramedics arrived, and Nick went to Genoa City Memorial on a stretcher. Next, Victor ordered his men to take Matt to his ranch.

Is the Mustached Mogul going to let him reside in an empty suite? Will he be kept captive in the same dungeon that once held Jordan Howard (Colleen Zenk) captive? Is Victor going to do something else? What if Victor forgives Matt for all his past crimes because he saved Nick's life?

Bad decision

We can't see Victor doing that. Sure, he's grateful on some level to Matt that Nick is alive. But Victor would be the first to point out that Nick wouldn't be in this situation if Matt hadn't caused the car wreck that resulted in Nick's leg injury that got him hooked on pills in the beginning!

Nick not only got hooked on opioids, but it was Matt who arranged for Nick to purchase some bad drugs from one of his minions. Nick would have gotten help for his pill problem if he weren't busy trying to track down Matt.

And why was Nick trying to track down Matt? Well, Matt has threatened Nick's family on numerous occasions. His latest reign of terror began when Matt found out that Noah was having an affair with his wife, Sienna (Tamara Braun), so Matt made sure that Noah had an auto accident and ended up in the hospital.

We're not advocating adultery, but Matt had more of a problem with Noah being Nick's son than he did with his wife's lover! Matt's flunkie, Det. Annie Stewart (Christine Kresge) conked Noah over the head, which could have killed him. Then, she kidnapped Sienna, which resulted in the Newman security team (seriously, these guys need to be on the scene far more often) helping rescue her.

Matt, of course, gets off on a technicality, and he continues to terrorize the Newman family. This shifted the drama to Las Vegas, where Matt kidnapped Nick and Adam (Mark Grossman). Then, Matt kidnapped Sharon and Noah and left them to die in an abandoned gas station. Matt heartlessly detonated a bomb once Adam and Nick showed up.

Fortunately, Victor helped make sure that Sharon, Noah, Nick, and Adam were saved. By the way, if Victor were to forgive Matt and he needed a job, Victor would never hire him. Why? Because Matt can't get anything done! He's been in a position to do away with several of the Newmans, but he's been unsuccessful in executing any of his schemes!

The Nick of Time

This all led to the showdown in Victor's Phyllis's office at Newman Enterprises Summers Conglomorate. Matt was finally going to get his. But Nick collapsed. Why did Victor even let Nick go with him on this mission? Sure, Nick had confessed his condition to his family, but did they have any proof that he was getting better or receiving treatment?

This left Nick vulnerable, and Matt jumped in and helped save his life. How he did this remains a mystery. Did Matt study medicine while he was away from Genoa City after faking his death all those years ago? Or as a drug seller, has he brought folks back who've overdosed from the brink, so that, you know, he could sell them more drugs?

And even if Victor were to let Matt's recent actions pass, let's not forget about Matt's other reigns of terror! He pummeled Nick when they were teenagers, hanging out at Crimson Lights. Matt raped Sharon. Next, Nick went to jail after Matt was shot (Nick was innocent; it was Matt's former girlfriend, Amy, played by Julianne Morris, who did the deed). Nick was almost killed in prison!

The next time Matt came to Genoa City, played by Rick Hearst (now, Ric, General Hospital), he committed more crimes against Nick and his family. Matt yanked the tubes out of his body in the hospital, hoping to frame Nick for his "murder." That plan failed.

The welcome Matt

And even if Victor were to somehow overlook all of this, guess what? Matt is still going to jail because it's not up to Victor to decide Matt's fate. Sure, Victor could (we don't think he will) give Matt another chance (a chance that Matt would blow, we've no doubt), but the authorities will not.

The police would arrest Matt, and Christine (Lauralee Bell) would prosecute him in court. There's no denying that Matt helped bring Nick back from the brink, but that in no way gets him a pass on his past!
