What if: The Young and the Restless 'What If' for the week of Apr. 13: Adam Newman wakes up and believes he's really Spider

The Young and the Restless character Adam Newman rolled the dice when he went with his brother, Nicholas, to Las Vegas to track down Matt Clark. Not only did Adam revisit his persona as Spider, but he's also been knocked unconscious by Matt. What if, when Adam wakes up, he has no memory of his life as Adam and believes he truly is Spider!

With great power comes great responsibility

Y&R viewers first learned of Adam's identity as Spider about 7 years ago when he resurfaced on the storytelling canvas. Adam was believed dead after dying in a cabin explosion. It seems that Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson) was carrying a grudge for Adam accidentally killing her daughter, Delia (Sophie Polllono), when he hit her with his car.

Adam survived, but he had developed amnesia, and he resurfaced in Las Vegas as the mysterious Spider. He later got his memory back and returned to Genoa City, picking up the pieces of Adam's life.

Adam had romances with Sally (Courtney Hope) and Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan), and he reunited with his son, Conner (Judah Mackey). Adam has always shared an uneasy relationship with Nick, but they put that aside and traveled to Sin City, hoping to track down Matt.

Nick, fighting his drug addiction, fell prey to Matt, and that evil guy taunted Chelsea and Adam that Nick had died of an overdose! Adam went with Matt and was brought to Nick's "body." Before Adam could properly assess the situation, Matt clubbed Adam over the head.

What if...Adam thinks he's Spider

What if...when Adam wakes up, he has no memory of his life as Adam Newman and goes back to thinking that he's Spider! This would affect many of Adam's key relationships. For starters, there's Chelsea and Connor! They both rely on Adam a great deal, but if he has no memory of who they are, he may not want anything to do with them.

Billy (Jason Thompson) could take pity on Chelsea, a woman he cares for deeply, but that could adversely affect Billy's relationship with Sally (Courtney Hope). Especially now that she's pregnant, Sally needs Billy more than ever.

Sharon (Sharon Case) was able to reach Adam the last time that he believed he was Spider. Maybe Sharon would be the person who would help Spider once again realize who he truly is?

It'd be logical if Adam were to turn to Riza (Tina Casciani) if he believes he's Spider once again. She's a part of his past, but she'd be an important part of his present if Adam had no memory of being Adam.

My Brother's Enemy, My Enemy

One person who'd have to watch out for Spider is Matt Clark. Why? Spider has an edge and may be capable of doing more harm to Matt than Adam or anyone else would.

Spider might not want to return to Genoa City anytime soon. He'd continue to live his life in Sin City and gamble the night away. Eventually, Adam would regain his memory, but who would ultimately bring him back? Sharon? Connor? Chelsea? Victor?

But Adam would have to live with the actions he took as Spider once he regained his memory. What if Spider were to marry Riza? Or what if Spider gambled and lost all of Adam's financial resources?

The Spider persona served Adam during a time when he wasn't ready to be Adam again. But a physical trauma to his noggin could result in Adam slipping back into an identity that is very different from who he truly is.
