What Happened on The Young and the Restless

While Victor (Eric Braeden) claims to be protecting his legacy, the methods he is employing to stop Cane (Billy Flynn) Ashby’s AI-driven takeover are shifting away from the boardroom and into dangerous, personal territory. Victor is keeping Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) and Victoria (Amelia Heinle) on the sidelines because their moral compasses are liabilities in this specific fight. Nikki has spent the last year pushing Victor to soften his edges, and Victoria is currently the public face of the Newman brand’s legitimacy. By excluding them, Victor ensures that the "dirty" work remains isolated from the women he considers the company's future. Now while it could be said that this is for the best that they know nothing, I mean having plausible deniability is great, but, he knows that if Nikki caught wind of him using Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) and the twins as leverage against Cane, she would shut the operation down before it even started.

Adam (Mark Grossman), however, is the only family member Victor trusts with the methods that bend the moral compass and cross ethical boundaries. Victor invited Adam to sit in with ‘Daddy’ and be a part of the inner circle because Adam doesn't flinch when the stakes are upped, he enjys a trip to the dark side as much as Victor does and for that, he will always be ‘daddy’s go-to’ While Nick and Victoria seek the high ground, Adam views business as a survival game. He understands that to beat someone like Cane, you have to be willing to target what they value most, even if it causes significant collateral damage.

As Monday’s episode revealed, this secrecy is already causing friction. Chelsea’s (Melissa Claire Egan) horrified reaction to Adam's disclosure proves that Victor’s strategy is a gamble that extends far beyond corporate stock. Reclaiming Newman Enterprises might be Victor's goal, but by keeping his wife and daughter in the dark, he risks alienating the very people he is trying to save the company for. But this isn’t new territory for Victor; he often keeps the people he claims to love in the dark, or involves them in his schemes without their knowledge. But he does it all for love, kidding, he does everything, to be against Jack Abbott, in any way he can.
