On Wednesday's episode of The Young and the Restless, we finally found out that Victor paid Patty to seduce Jack -- which, of course, threw a monkey wrench into Jack's marriage to Diane. But some of Victor's ruthless tactics just don't make any sense.
Patty's huge payoff on The Young and the Restless

Wednesday's episode of The Young and the Restless finally confirmed what we had suspected. Victor (Eric Braeden) hired Patty Williams (Stacy Haiduk) to seduce Jack (Peter Bergman), thus wrecking his marriage to Diane (Susan Walters) in the process.
That bag of cash that Victor handed Patty made us wonder exactly how much money he paid her. Apparently, it's enough money for her to live on, at least until she figures out whether she wants to pursue a particular career. Wouldn't it be a hoot if she started her own cosmetics company, which became a rival for both Jabot Cosmetics and Newman Enterprises? We're calling it Newman Enterprises instead of Summers Conglomerate, since Victor looks like he's about to get his company back from Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) very soon!
Why did Victor do business with a woman who tried to kill his granddaughter?

Phyllis was outraged when she ran into Patty at the GCAC. Even though Phyllis' daughter, Summer (Allison Lanier), has shut Phyllis out of her life, Phyllis quickly went into mama-bear mode. She reminded Patty about the time she tried to kill Summer when she gave her a cookie that contained peanuts, which Summer is allergic to. Summer's allergic reaction to the cookie had almost killed her.
Victor always claims that he loves his family and will do anything to protect them from danger. So, why in the world did he strike a deal with Patty, knowing that she once tried to kill his own granddaughter?
Jack became an integral character on Y&R shortly after his debut in 1980. He has plenty of other former love interests whom Victor could have hired to seduce Jack, and they were not all psychopaths like Patty. Didn't Patty once kill one of Victor's dogs? (RIP, Zapato!) Why on earth would he be in cahoots with a violent person who has a history of targeting his own loved ones and pets?
Did Victor arrange for Patty's release from a psychiatric facility? We still don't know for sure. If he did, then that makes no sense. Victor never forgives people who hurt his family. For all he knows, Patty might fly to Milan and target Summer again!
Victor's actions have pushed Nikki even closer to Jack

Victor may be astute when it comes to business dealings. But in matters of the heart, he doesn't seem to know what the heck he's doing. When he ranted and raved to Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) over the fact that she always defends Jack over him, he threw her out of the house. At the same time, he ruined Jack's marriage with the Patty Williams seduction scheme.
But what Victor doesn't seem to realize is that both of those actions have only pushed Jack and Nikki closer together, not farther apart. If he wants Jack away from his wife, then he shouldn't have messed with Jack's marriage. Jack and Nikki have more time on their hands now, since both of their marriages are broken -- and they are spending that free time together, consoling each other. What in the world is the Mustache thinking? It feels like he's been using circular logic, since all he's managed to do is drive his wife and his archenemy even closer together.
Everything Victor has done stems from his jealousy of Jack. He can't stand that Nikki and Jack are good friends. And what he can't seem to understand is that she will never stop being Jack's close friend, no matter how much money he pays Patty or anyone else. Get a clue, Victor.
