The Young and the Restless: Will Jack and Diane be able to work things out -- eventually?

The Young and the Restless' Jack and Diane have been through a lot together during the course of their marriage, but will his brief encounter with Patty become the obstacle that breaks them up for good? Will Jack and Diane be able to repair their broken marriage, eventually?

When The Young and the Restless' Diane (Susan Walters) packed a bag and left the Abbott mansion and Jack (Peter Bergman), we assumed that she needed some time to mull over everything that happened on the yacht. Walking in on Jack in bed with Patty Williams (Stacy Haiduk) was an emotional gut punch. Thankfully, Jack told her he was drugged. She had a hard time believing it, for some reason, even though she knew how crazy Patty is. But hopefully, upon some reflection, that will make a difference to Diane, since his judgment was compromised.

We're hoping that Diane's departure is only temporary. She's been a loyal wife to Jack and a fierce protector of the Abbotts and their family business, Jabot Cosmetics. She is a good match for him, so we hate to see their marriage destroyed just because Patty (or possibly Victor, played by Eric Braeden) drugged Jack's drink.

Many Y&R fans are furious that we continue to see this theme of sexual assault, just as we've seen it on The Bold and the Beautiful. It simply isn't entertaining, and it isn't what devoted soap fans want to watch. And by the way, what was the drug in the whisky that Jack drank? It would be interesting to know. One Y&R fan even suggested that the Abbotts should bring the whisky bottle home with them, so they can have the contents analyzed in a lab. That's a great idea! That way, they will have proof that the alcohol was spiked, and maybe the lab results will identify what the mystery drug was.

Are we about to see a Jack and Nikki reunion?

Since Victor ordered Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) to leave the Newman ranch at the same time that Diane left the Abbott mansion, we can already tell where this storyline is headed. With both the Newman and Abbott marriages on the rocks, will Jack and Nikki (exes who have remained friends) get back together?

If that happens, then it may only be a short-term reunion, since Nikki always returns to Victor. We hope, though, that Jack continues to keep Nikki in the friend zone and doesn't go any further with her. His friendship with Nikki has already been a subject of contention in his marriage to Diane, and we can understand why Diane isn't thrilled about it. He defends Nikki over even members of his own family, like Billy (Jason Thompson). Jack is only going to widen the rift between him and Diane if he starts paying too much attention to Nikki.

It will also fuel the fire of Victor's hostility toward him. The Mustache will be even more jealous and infuriated than he is now, which will only intensify his desire to attack Jack and Jabot.

Can Traci help to mend Jack and Diane's fractured marriage?

Since Traci (Beth Maitland) is the kind and level-headed peacemaker of the Abbott family on The Young and the Restless, could she be the key to helping Jack and Diane resolve their marital problems? Diane's judgment right now is clouded by the anger and heartache of seeing Jack with Patty. But Traci always helps her family to see things more clearly. Will she have a heart-to-heart talk with Diane and help her to realize that Jack loves her and would have never betrayed her if he hadn't been drugged?

We hope that Jack fights for his marriage, especially since he wouldn't be in this mess if it weren't for the fact that Victor kidnapped him -- and arranged for Patty to be the only other person on the yacht with him. Let's hope that Jack doesn't let Victor's evil scheme destroy the good marriage he's had with Diane. Let's see Jack fight for the woman he loves!
