Now that The Young and the Restless writers have stunned us with the news that Holden is Malcolm's son and Lily's half-brother, we can only imagine how shocked Lily was when Malcolm told her. She has never really trusted Holden since he first appeared on the canvas in 2025. What kind of sibling relationship will they have?
Lily and Holden on The Young and the Restless

The Young and the Restless writers are finally (and thankfully) moving Holden (Nathan Owens) in a new direction. The big revelation that he is Malcolm Winters' (Shemar Moore) son is going to have a major impact on the entire Winters family. For a year, Holden has been a man of mystery who moved from L.A. to Genoa City. He's charming, but we've never really known whether we could trust him.
Lily (Christel Khalil) and Nate (Sean Dominic) have never been able to trust him either, after the blowout that Holden had with his longtime friend and work associate, Damian (Jermaine Rivers). Holden first came on the canvas pretending to be Damian when Nate was trying to find a way to tell Damian that they were half-brothers. Eventually, Holden and Damian had a falling out, shortly before Damian was killed in France by Carter (Vincent Stalba).
Once Lily recovers from the initial shock of learning that Holden is her half-brother, will she try to get past her misgivings about him? Will she give him a real chance to be a brother to her?
Monday's episode gave us proof that Holden is going to be a brother Lily can count on. He spoke to her privately at Crimson Lights, told her that Cane (Billy Flynn) sent him to L.A. to find her during her fake kidnapping scheme, and he told her that Cane is not in a good state of mind. Holden informed Lily that Cane is seeking revenge against Victor, and he warned her that it might be in her best interest to stay away from Cane -- otherwise, she might get caught in the crossfire. This sounded like brotherly advice that Holden imparted, before he even found out that he's Lily's brother! We have to give him props for that.
How will Devon react to the big news?

Devon (Bryton James) is a protective brother to Lily, as we saw in Tuesday's episode, when he got in Cane's face and gave him a stern warning. He told Cane that if his plans in GC include Lily or anyone else in the Winters family, then he will go after Cane personally -- and that was a promise.
Since Devon doesn't know Holden very well, we assume that he will take this same protective stance with him after he learns that Holden is Lily's half-brother. Since Holden's background is still sketchy to the Winters, we're sure that Devon is going to warn him not to do anything that will hurt Lily. Perhaps Devon will pay someone to do a background check on Holden?
Will Holden eventually join his family at Winters, Inc.?

After Lily, Devon, and Nate have all learned to trust Holden, we're assuming that they will offer him a job working with them at their family business, Winters, Inc. We know Holden is looking for work, as Audra (Zuleyka Silver) needled him recently about the fact that he is unemployed and carefree. She even teased him that perhaps Esther (Kate Linder) is hiring at Crimson Lights. He turned down Cane's offer to go after Victor (Eric Braeden) by trying to obtain inside information through Claire (Hayley Erin). He cares about Claire and doesn't want to use her in that way. So, what other job options does Holden have? It feels like all of those incidents that happened were signs that he is destined to work for Winters, Inc.
It's great that The Young and the Restless writers have given us this fresh storyline by bringing back characters from the past -- Malcolm and Stephanie (Vivica A. Fox). Some of the current storylines have become stale, such as the AI program corporate takeovers, the kidnappings, Victor's ongoing feud with Jack (Peter Bergman), and Mariah's emotional and mental breakdown. Holden's new storyline livens up the show and gives us something to look forward to. Will Lily and Holden grow to love each other as siblings? Will Devon and Nate eventually accept Holden into the Winters family? Will they offer him a fulfilling career opportunity at Winters, Inc.? Stay tuned, Y&R fans, for the answers to all of those questions!
