The Young and the Restless gave diehard "Nictor" fans the payoff they've wanted to see for months -- Victor and Nikki renewing their vows. Did it match up to majestic wedding blowouts of yesteryear? Maybe not in every way, but certainly in the most important way -- the love between the bride and the groom. Also, Noah and Billy made questionable decisions that left us scratching our heads!
With This Ring
Compared to Victor and Nikki’s 1984 blowout wedding at the Colonnade Room, the vow renewal ceremony that took place at the Newman ranch last week was definitely scaled down.
Make that scaled down in production values (flowers, music, candles, attendees, etc.), but the love story between the bride and the groom – Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) and Victor (Eric Braeden) – was first-class all the way!
Even if you were a first-time viewer of Y&R when you checked in for the ceremony, you could tell right away that the romance between the mustached mogul and the ex-stripper was filled with history, passion, and love.
Victor and Nikki didn’t renew their vows on a whim. After several months of being at odds, Nikki’s blindness served as a catalyst, forcing Victor to realize that there were more important things than being right and destroying Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman)!
Seeing Nikki vulnerable prompted Victor to slowly turn to reconciling with his beloved. Nikki’s vision didn’t immediately return after her operation, which put everyone on pins and needles. She was going to get her sight back, right?
Then, after a horrific nightmare in which Nikki felt that Patty (Stacy Haiduk) and/or Matt Clark (Roger Howarth) had infiltrated the ranch, a miracle occurred. Nikki got her sight back! She and Victor cleared the air on moving forward. Sure, there are always going to be disagreements and conflicts. However, Victor and Nikki are now moving forward, having renewed their commitment to one another.
While the vow renewal wasn’t a throwback to grand galas of yesteryear, the bride and groom were dressed for the occasion. Y&R’s costume designer, Mandi Line, came up with a beautiful blue gown for Nikk, and the blue in Victor’s tie matched his bride’s look perfectly!
Victor and Nikki’s romantic vow renewal, officiated by Michael Baldwin (Christian LeBlanc), was a highlight of the episode. The love between the two has never been stronger!
We must confess that we had our hopes out that the lack of flowers, guests, venue, etc. meant that the show had budgeted for licensing rights to Victor and Nikki’s love song, “Through the Eyes of Love.”
It would have been perfect to hear under any circumstances, but given Nikki’s recent ordeal with blindness, hearing the couple’s song, “Through the Eyes of Love,” would have been the perfect touch.
Ah, well. Maybe at the couple’s next wedding. (We kid! We kid!)
Key Largo
Noah (Lucas Adams) and Sienna (Tamara Braun) chose to resolve their conflict over Matt Clark (Roger Howarth), who may or may not have changed from his wicked ways, by deciding to leave town to avoid any contact with the man.
Seriously? Seriously?
Noah will never, ever, ever in a zillion years forgive himself if Matt, gee, who might feel disrespected for some reason, goes off the deep end and attacks his mother, Sharon (Sharon Case), again. Or what if he were to sneak into rehab (provided Nick, played by Joshua Morrow, gets back there) and gives some tainted drugs (or heck, even regular untainted drugs!) to Noah’s dad.
Noah’s family is extremely vulnerable to Matt right now. Noah has said he’s not sure leaving town right now is the right decision. Newsflash, Noah! It’s not! Your family needs you in case Matt turns evil again.
Matt needs to walk a line right now. On one hand, he’s trying to lead a more law-abiding life. On the other hand, he threatened (yep, threatened) Adam (Mark Grossman) that he could tap back into his old ways if he needed to.
The writers have Matt living in two worlds – reformed and still threatening. It’s challenging to remain in those two worlds at the same time for very long. What’s going to set Matt off? Getting dirty looks from the Newmans when he walks into the GCAC? Being pulled over for running a red light? Getting the wrong coffee order at Crimson Lights?
Back in the 1990s, Matt resented Nick for coming from a wealthy background and he raped Sharon because she didn’t want him – she wanted Nick. Has a conk on the head from Sienna truly changed Matt?
And why hasn’t he been arrested? District attorney Christine Blair Romalotti (Lauralee Bell) felt her hands were tied when circumstantial evidence was against Diane Jenkins Abbott (Susan Walters) after Jack was stabbed by Patty (Stacy Haiduk), a woman who had been put in a psychiatric hospital for committing violent acts.
Diane had an alibi in her son, Kyle (Michael Mealor). Diane needed bail, and it took Patty trying to kill Jack a second time to be cleared! Why haven’t the police arrested Matt Clark for his numerous attempts on the lives of the Newmans? Maybe get Det. Annie Stewart (Catherine Kresge), Matt’s former partner-in-crime, to testify against him?
We understand Y&R wanting to keep someone of Howarth’s calibre on the canvas. Perhaps, he could play another character, maybe the person whom Matt Clark told his plastic surgeon that he wanted to look like? It worked with Haiduk’s Patty when the show kept the actress on by casting her as Patty’s therapist, Dr. Emily Peterson.
LA Story II
Sienna and Noah weren’t the only two bound for Los Angeles this week. Courtney Hope’s Sally booked out of town on short notice to help her sister, Coco (Courtney Grosbeck). Will Sally run into Noah and Sienna while in sunny Southern California?
What about her crossing paths with ex-flame Wyatt Spencer (Darin Brooks), who is now back on The Bold and the Beautiful, while she’s there? We’re not sure what necessitated Sally being written out so quickly, but planting seeds of her being back in LA has us wondering if she’d reconnect with the man she once loved, who knew a very different woman than the one living in Genoa City.
Why tease us with Sally being in L.A. if she's not going to revisit her life there? Who knows? Maybe she will!
Chancellor Industries Backstory
Speaking of Sally, Billy (Jason Thompson) has got a new purpose in life. Nah, it’s not the new baby on the way. It’s not his other children, Johnny (Paxton Mishkind) and Katie (Sienna Mercuri). It’s not Sally, his pregnant bride-to-be.
Nope. It’s a new mystery about something that happened decades ago and has remained buried. It would probably stay that way forever, but Billy has never met a challenge he can’t obsess over!
Billy told Cane that Jill remarked that there was some secret at Chancellor Industries that pre-dates Katherine (the late, great Jeanne Cooper) taking over the company.
Cane called this early on. Billy is looking for a reason as to why Jill doesn’t want him to run the company. She’s gotta be protecting him from some deep, dark secret, which is why she doesn’t want Billy anywhere near the company. Billy just can't wrap his head around the fact that Jill's opinion is that her son wouldn't be a great fit for Kay's company.

Wouldn’t this secret have come out before then? Shouldn’t Billy be focusing on the present and not the past? Once again, Billy's going to risk everything to prove a hunch that he's certain is a fact.
