Victor's Decisions Rock Genoa City: The Young and the Restless Two Scoops For the Week of June 8

It's Victor Newman's world on The Young and the Restless, and the rest of us are just living in it! That's how it seems sometimes, as evidenced by the moustached mogul's Machiavellian methods! He's pulled some whoopers in the past, but his decisions last week surprised even us!

In late 2025, Victor (Eric Braeden) gave Matt Clark (Roger Howarth) a good punch when he was finally brought before him at the Newman Ranch. That was right before Nick (Joshua Morrow) drove off with him when Matt caused the car to crash, which led to Nick's dependency on pain pills.

Now, Victor feels differently about Matt and Phyllis, played by Michelle Stafford, too, for that matter, as they played a key role in saving Nick's life. Victor's quite adept at raising his eyebrows in situations, but now it's everyone else who's raising their eyebrows! What in the heck is Victor thinking by letting Matt Clark live at the ranch and using him as an ally against Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn)?

Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) didn't give two hoots about blasting Victor, in public no less, at the Genoa City Athletic Club, for his change of heart regarding Matt. Yes, Matt does remember every bad thing he ever did, but this new and improved Matt feels horribly about it! Nikki, and she's not alone on this, wonders what will happen if Matt, in addition to having gotten his memories back, suddenly regains the personality that had no conscience? Nikki just can't wrap her head around the fact that Victor would let Matt Clark, of all people, go unpunished!

We've been assured that Newman security is always close by, probably unseen. But is that the same Newman security that was supposed to be standing by when Matt was on his campaign of terror the last several months? Will the security team get dismissed? Adam and Nick didn't bring them to Las Vegas for fear of tipping Matt off. That didn't work out too well, did it? After all, Nick, Sharon (Sharon Case), Noah (Lucas Adams), and Adam were almost blown to smithereens!

What Could Go Wrong?

Victor's judgement is not to be questioned! Just ask, well, anyone who has ever questioned him! Victor's deal with Matt is to get him to find out what Cane (Billy Flynn) is up to. Well, Cane is recovering from donating bone marrow to Malcolm (Shemar Moore). He's over the moon that Lily (Christel Khalil) has come to see him in a new (or maybe old) light. They're back together. Plus, Cane has gainful employment now that Victor has given Chancellor Industries back to Lily, and Lily has asked Cane to run it.

Cane likely isn't up to any good because the guy's got everything he wants! And in what world is a content Cane more dangerous than a potentially moody Matt, who might decide to wake up someday and decide to start to attack either Sharon or Sienna? Or anyone? Those Newman security team employees will need to jump into action very quickly!

Falling for You

Last week's shows ended on a poignant note between Sharon and Phyllis. After turning in tour de forces on a weekly (if not daily) basis, Phyllis has started a new beginning. Victor has given her one of the many companies in Genoa City to run, Arabesque. Just as talk show legend Oprah Winfrey gave out cars to teachers on her talk show, Victor's handing out companies: you get a company! YOU get a company!

Phyllis has also reached out to Summer, hoping they can forge ahead with a new relationship now that she's done the right thing. Despite her attacks on the Newman clan, Phyllis has managed to maintain her new friendship with Sharon. Phyllis found support from Sharon at Crimson Lights. If you put money on these two going back to their old ways, you'd lose that bet!

We thought that Y&R might have ended its episode on a true cliffhanger, however. Well, if not "cliffhanger" then, certainly a staircase hanger. (Those exist, right?) We held our breaths as Nikki started up the stairs (Victor ordered her up to her room to take her medicine and to call her doctor), but Nikki's vision blurred a bit, and she seemed unsteady.

Is Nikki going to fall down the stairs in true soap opera heroine fashion? Will Cane be sued for any imperfections in the staircase (maybe a loose rug) that could hasten a potential fall? Does Cane have the money to deal with such a suit?

Emerging from The Shadow Room

The debut of The Shadow Room (Genoa City version) was a bit hit! "This isn't Gina's," quipped Stephanie (Vivica A. Fox) when she entered the swanky new joint! What a subtle, perfect reminder that Stephanie was back on the show in the mid 1990s when Gina's (run by Patty Weaver's character, Gina) was one of Genoa City's main hot spots!

Of course, Gina's restaurant was more of an eatery, and The Shadow Room is a club for nighttime gatherings! The club is also a show of confidence that the show has in its owner/manager, Noah!

Someone else who always makes Genoa City feel more like home is Michael Damian's Danny. He shared with Cricket (Lauralee Bell) and Daniel (Michael Graziadei) that he's ready to stop going out on the road. If that keeps him in town, and Danny and Cricket go back to being the show's stable couple (as they were till a certain fiery redhead came into the picture), we're all for it!

When Y&R first reintroduced the character last year, he was all bandaged up, recovering from a crash, and was in Los Angeles. There was no guarantee he'd get back to Genoa City, or, for that matter, live! Y&R has seen numerous leading young men come and go from the show over the last several years. Remember Theo Vanderway (Tyler Johnson)? The show did storyline somersaults, revealing that Theo was the grandson of the late Dina Mergeron (Marla Adams) and Stuart Brooks (Robert Colbert). And then? He left town!

We've also seen Stitch (Sean Carrigan) go bad. Scotty (Daniel Hall) came home only to leave again. Fenmore (Zach Tinker) popped in a few years ago to celebrate Lauren (Tracey Bregman), his mom, and introduce his boyfriend, Trey (Julian Larach), but neither has been seen since!

We were worried that Noah might never come back from London after his last portrayor, Rory Gibson, went off to London! (Whatever happened to Gibson, anyway? We kid, of course. The actor has been acting up a storm as Michael on General Hospital for the last year.)

Father's Daze

Y&R has some hits along with the misses. The show wisely tie Nathan Owens' Holden to the canvas by making him Malcolm's son. We know we were never going to get Moore back for an extended stay, but they were able to get some bonding in during last week. It's great news that Stephanie appears to be sticking around town, too. But didn't Holden's forgiveness of his mom for keeping Malcolm away from him for decades seem kind of fast?
