The Young and the Restless brought Matt Clark's reign of terror to a conclusion when a clearly disheveled Sienna Bacall, Matt's ex-wife, informed Nick, Sharon, and Noah that Matt was dead -- and she had killed him! However, Matt has cheated death before, even when we've seen him die on-camera. What if Matt Clark is still alive?

The Young and the Restless baddie Matt may have 9 lives

Make no mistake -- Sienna (Tamara Braun) didn't just wander in casually and mention casually that Matt Clark (Roger Howarth) was dead and that she had killed him. She was greatly distraught, in shock, and she looked like she'd been in some kind of fight or maybe even a crash.

There's every reason to believe that Sienna is telling the truth. However, as this is daytime drama, there's every reason to believe that Matt Clark is still alive. Let's think about how this could be the case.

First, Sienna might not even be lying. She told Nick (Joshua Morrow), Sharon (Sharon Case), and Noah (Lucas Adams) that Mitch was dead and that he died by her hand. Maybe she truly believes that she killed him. Perhaps she got behind the wheel of a car and crashed it on purpose, hoping to rid the world of Matt even if that meant that she, too, would perish.

That would explain why Sienna looks like she's been through an ordeal. Perhaps she tried to end both their lives, and only Matt died. Or she believes that Matt died. Matt is very, very good at faking his death and at getting out of jams.

Maybe he tricked Sienna into thinking that he's dead and he has made his escape, planning to return another day when the Newmans least expect it. Sienna would feel horrible if she gave her friends the wrong information, but she may be going with what she knows to be the truth.

There's another possibility at play here. Maybe Sienna didn't kill Matt, but she felt sorry for him and wanted to help him get away. Sienna made an impassioned plea to Matt in the car the other day, telling him that they could go away together and start over as long as he left the Newmans alone.

They had it all -- just like Bogie and Bacall

"Do you remember when we fell in love?" Sienna reminded Matt. "How it was in the beginning? You were so charming and you were such a romantic. How could I not fall for you? And the plans that we made. We made them happen together. We were a hell of a team."

"Until we weren't," Matt deadpanned, showing Sienna he wasn't buying her act.

"We lost sight of things," Sienna continued, hoping to sway her husband. "Because there was too much anger. We stopped talking. We stopped seeing each other. But what made us 'us' -- that is still there. We can be that team again."

Matt pointed out that her boytoy's (Noah) grandfather (Victor, played by Eric Braeden) had wiped him out financially. Matt had nowhere to go.

"But I have all the assets -- except for the club," Sienna pointed out. "Everything that Victor took from you, he transferred into my name so we can get out of here. We can leave Vegas behind, and we can start over wherever we want in that world. We can be that young, in-love couple again."

Matt maybe wanted to believe Sienna, but, despite her passion, he didn't. "You say all the right words, but I don't believe for a second that you're over your little Noah," Matt quipped.

Sienna said the Newmans were suffocating, and she liked her freedom. She added that the only person who has ever truly known her is Matt.

Sienna was so convincing with her words that we actually started to believe her. Matt, however, did not, and he detonated the bomb that blew up the gas station. However, her passionate plea to Matt gave our heroes time to escape. Whew!

Ultimately, other than feeling sorry for Matt and/or guilty over her affair with Noah, which triggered his evil actions, Sienna has no reason to lie. If she believed Matt was alive, she'd tell the Newmans, right? Then, they'd alert the authorities and/or their personal security teams, and hunt him down.

Keeping a bad person down is nearly impossible

Still, Y&R is known for resurrecting its villains, dating back to Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) surviving a farmhouse fire so she could carve out a new life for herself in Los Angeles on The Bold and the Beautiful.

Ian Ward (Ray Wise) fooled the Newmans into thinking that he was dead. Matt, himself, cheated death after his dramatic death at Genoa City Memorial Hospital when he tried framing Matt for his death.

In all likelihood, Aunt Jordan (Colleen Zenk) is out there and is going to turn up someday when we least expect it. Ditto, David Kimble (Michael Corbett), who probably survived trash compacting himself to death. (Come on! All we saw was a hand!)

The welcome Matt

Dead body or not, Matt will probably show up again among the living. He is great for stories. Matt has a history with the Newmans. And, his portrayer, the Daytime Emmy-winning Howarth, brings excitement and danger to the screen!

If and when Matt returns, he'll probably do so with wealth, power, and a clean record. That way, he can have another long reign of terror!
