At the Athletic Club, Lily was surprised when the hostess steered her away from the main dining area to a private table in the back, where Cane was waiting for her. They embraced, and he reported that Jill was slowly regaining strength. Cane accepted that Jill wouldn’t live forever, but he wasn’t ready to let her go. He added that he’d missed Lily more than she knew.

Cane applauded Billy for focusing on Jill the entire time instead of trying to pick a fight. Cane appreciated that Mattie and Charlie had sent text messages to check on him and Jill, and Lily denied telling them to do it. Lily was glad Cane and Billy had been able to get reassurance together, but Cane chalked it up to special circumstances.

Lily believed Billy had been different before he’d lost Delia, and she hoped his new wife and baby would allow him to concentrate on what he had rather than what he didn’t. Cane predicted that Billy would eventually circle back to his obsession with Chancellor. Lily admitted that she’d missed Cane, and he questioned why they weren’t living together.

Lily recalled that they’d tabled the issue. Cane declared that she was the sun, moon and stars, and he couldn’t live without those things. She protested that it was too soon, and she didn’t want to rush things. Cane preferred to take advantage of the time they had together after Lily’s cancer scare and Jill’s health crisis.

Lily cited the impact such a move would have on their kids and her family, and she didn’t want to live life out of fear that life was too short. Cane considered it a reality. Lily implored Cane to be with her in the moment, since there was too much at stake if things didn’t work out. She believed they’d both know when the time was right.

Unwelcome Intervention

Adam and Chelsea entered the new Newman ranch, where she had a bad feeling about why Victor had summoned them there, but Adam wasn’t worried. Over breakfast, Chelsea mentioned that Connor was considering joining the debate team, and Nikki gushed about how the grandkids adored Victor. Victor inquired about Sally’s baby, adding that he knew Adam had just visited Sally and Ruby the day before. An awkward silence followed, and it was clear from Chelsea’s expression that she hadn’t known about the visit.

Nikki understood if Adam felt a connection with the child. Victor stressed that Adam’s ex and enemy were the baby’s parents. Adam scoffed at the idea that he shouldn’t have said hello to Sally and Ruby in the park, but Victor huffed that Adam shouldn’t have seen them at all. Adam resented Victor for putting a tail on him.

Victor warned that Adam was playing a dangerous game by visiting his ex. Nikki piped up that Victor was concerned because of Adam’s loss of Ava. Adam assumed he could no longer confide in his brother because Nick had run to Victor. Victor sternly stated that Adam wasn’t thinking about the ramifications, and he asked what Chelsea thought.

Chelsea disagreed with Victor if he was implying that Adam would get back together with Sally. Chelsea continued that she and Adam had talked about Ava and his grief, and she and Sally had also been honest and open about it. Chelsea asserted that she was proud of Adam for his heroic actions, and she thought Victor and Nikki should be, too. Adam spat that Victor had undermined him by having a team of spies watch him – and that it showed distrust, not love.

Victor argued that Sally was their competition, but Adam was incensed that his father had staged an intervention just because he’d returned a bootie. Adam ranted that Victor could never have faith in him or take him at his word. Adam led Chelsea out, and Nikki suspected that Victor was worried Adam would go back to Sally. Victor recognized that Sally and Ruby were very important to Adam, and he was afraid the attachment would only get worse.

Adam and Chelsea returned home. He thanked her for having his back and griped about his family thinking Sally’s baby was a threat to his well-being. Chelsea wondered why he’d felt the need to hide that he’d gone to see Sally and Ruby. Adam conceded that he’d screwed up by not telling her, and he supposed Chelsea might have gotten the wrong idea.

Chelsea lectured that the wrong idea had been not telling her about it. Adam opened up about how Ruby had fallen asleep on his shoulder after he’d burped her. He mused that he’d forgotten what a great feeling that was, and it had made him think that maybe he and Chelsea should have another child.

Unresolved Questions

Sally cooed to Ruby as they returned home from a walk. Billy greeted them and pulled Sally into a kiss. Billy picked up the baby and declared her perfect in every way. Sally revealed that she’d gotten up the nerve to go on walks, since she didn’t want Ruby to miss out on life just because Sally was desperate to keep her safe. Billy pledged to all be brave together.

Billy rubbed Sally’s feet as he told her about his trip to London. Sally insisted that seeing his mom had been the right thing to do, but she was glad he was home because she could finally relax. Billy recalled the collective relief everyone had felt when they’d realized Jill’s health was starting to improve, but Sally didn’t hear the relief in his voice. Billy admitted that he’d feared the worst, and he was left wondering what would happen next.

Sally pointed out that Billy had a second chance to reach an understanding with Jill. Billy thought perhaps it wasn’t meant to happen because an argument could risk another cardiac event. Billy wanted peace with his mother before it was too late and contemplated whether he had to live without facing their conflict to make sure Jill stayed on earth as long as she could.

Sally sympathized that it was frustrating to have unanswered questions, but she thought Billy had to accept that he might never understand what Jill had done. Billy pledged to make sure he was always honest and open with his kids. He turned the topic to what she’d done in his absence. She reported that she’d had visitors, including Adam.

Sally recapped her harmless encounters with Adam. Billy didn’t want it to become a regular thing, since he was sure Adam felt attached to Ruby after helping deliver her. Sally swore it wouldn’t be an issue, but Billy remained unconvinced.
