On the Tuesday, September 1, 2026, episode of The Young and the Restless, Matt visited with Patty, Phyllis received advice, Billy didn't get what he wanted, an Sally doubled over in pain.
Baby Fears

When Lily met with Billy at the GCAC, she told him that she wasn't about to let Chancellor go without a fight. Billy was surprised by this and accused Lily of having a vendetta against him. Lily insisted that none of this was personal and Jack even came to her with a compelling argument to give Billy a chance.
The problem was that Lily feared he would blow everything she had been working for if she handed the company to Billy. A furious Billy stormed off, telling Lily that he would see her in court. That just led to a furious Lily storming off.
However, Billy returned to the bar to stew in things. When Sally found him, he told her about his meeting with Lily. Sally hated to be the one who says 'I told you so,' but she knew this was going to happen. Sally tried to look on the bright side of things. Did they need Chancellor and the headaches it brings? After all, they had a wedding to plan and a baby on the way to focus on.
Billy was still too hyperfocused on Chancellor and wondered if his mother could even be working with Lily and Cane. He needed answers, but not as much as Sally needed medical attention. She suddenly doubled over with abdominal pain and feared for the baby. Billy promptly called an ambulance.
Meanwhile, after Lily left the GCAC, she met up with Cane at Society where they discussed their next move. She didn't want to give the company to Billy, but also knew they had stalled him long and enough and something had to give. They needed to find out what else was going on when Katherine and John made this deal.
Lily also noted that she was thinking about Nate's surgery the next day and how Nate and Devon both wanted her to just give up on Chancellor. Cane said he would be by Lily's side and support her in whatever she wanted.
Girl Talk

Phyllis stopped into Crimson Lights to see Sharon and told her sometimes enemy and sometime frenemy how marvelous she looked. Sharon wasn't sure if this would be a good talk if all Phyllis wanted to do was discuss Matt.
But Sharon sat with Phyllis on the patio anyway and voiced her concerns. Everyone was worried that Phyllis was spending way too much time with Matt. However, Phyllis was worried that Victor had done something to Matt. Sharon was stunned to learn that Phyllis had gone so far as to bother Nick about the Matt situation while he was at rehab.
Phyllis defended herself and said the main reason she went to see Nick was that she was concerned about him and loved him. She thought he looked better but that he did not look well. But all she could think about was Matt and insisted that Nick had been thinking about him too.
A frustrated Sharon told Phyllis that she was trying to ignore everything Matt had done in the past. Sharon worried that Phyllis was lonely and grasping onto anyone or anything, but Matt wasn't a person who could be trusted. Phyllis argued that she was the only one who even cared about Matt (which could be true). Sharon tried to reason with Phyllis and told her that she cared about her. "This is not about Matt. This is about what you need," Sharon said. "Whatever you're looking for, he can't give it to you."
Sharon was worried that Phyllis was seeing something in Matt that was not there, something Phyllis only wanted to see.
Phyllis argued that she did not need saving from Sharon, but Sharon reminded her that they had been through a lot together and that she'd have her back. Phyllis was surprised by this display from Sharon and also touched. Phyllis and Sharon's friendship fest ended so that Lauren and Phyllis' friendship fest could begin.
Lauren sat down with Phyllis while Sharon went back to work. Phyllis told Lauren that Matt was missing and that she was the only one who seemed to care. Lauren tried being gentle with her friend and told her that Matt might not be the right guy. Phyllis insisted he was good to her and made her happy. She didn't care about his past. She cared about right now and just wanted to find him.
At Prison

Patty was surprised but not surprised when Matt visited her in prison. He even apologized for ghosting her and not being by to see her sooner. Matt noted that there had been a light inside Patty when they had first met, but she had hurt too many people and that light had turned dark.
Matt worried that he would also snap and try to hurt people, so he asked Patty what had happened to her. What made her act the way that she had? An ominous Patty warned Matt that he would be just like her again one day. Every hurt, heartache, and disappointment had turned her into this evil person and it would happen to Matt again. "That darkness? It's all around you," Patty promised.
When Matt returned to his hotel room, he thought about what Patty said and wrote Phyllis a letter. He had to go because he was sure that he would turn evil again. She was his only light. Matt couldn't even finish the letter because he was too emotional. Instead, he called Phyllis and told her that he needed her.
