On the Thursday, September 17, 2026, episode of The Young and the Restless, Phyllis couldn't find Matt until she could; Nick got back into life, and Jack and Diane received a very odd gift from a very odd person.
Where is Matt? Uh-oh!

Phyllis was stunned when she got to the Riverbank Motel to find that Matt was gone. She was sure that Patty had to have been behind this and left a message for Matt before finding the letter he left her. Matt had finally figured out what his heroic act had to be. He was going to make Patty leave town by going with her.
Matt appreciated that Phyllis saw good in him, but he didn't see himself the way she did and felt the bad in him outweighed the good. Phyllis was furious and devastated as she read the letter and realized that Matt could be gone for good.
About Jack and Diane...and Mr. Kitty

Jack was not happy when he returned home to the Abbott mansion after a useless stay in the hospital. Their plan to lure out Patty didn't work, so Jack didn't see the point in lying in a hospital bed anymore. Jack and Diane were even less pleased when they noticed a large box from Patty right in the middle of the dining room table. Diane was terrified that it could be a bomb, so they handed the package off to security to be analyzed.
When security deemed the package to be safe, Jack opened it and read a note from Patty. She was sorry to read about the heart attack, but feared it could have been a trap, so she didn't come to see him. Patty still believed that they could have their happily ever after, but for now, she had to leave town with a friend.
Jack was sure Patty meant it and was gone for good, but Diane was sure that this had to be some sort of trick. Jack tried to convince Diane to let this go, so they could move on with their lives, but he didn't get far because Phyllis started banging on the door. Jack let her in and asked if she had heard from Patty.
Phyllis informed Jack and Diane that she had a friend who had fallen for Patty's act and had run off with her. Phyllis suggested that they team up to find Patty and her friend. Jack immediately knew that Phyllis was talking about Matt, so Phyllis went on the defensive and insisted that Matt was one of the good guys now.
Diane spent much of her time rolling her eyes as Jack entertained another ex. He even told her about the gift and goodbye note that Patty had left for them. Phyllis once again said they should team up, but Jack didn't even have a clue where to start. He had no idea where Matt and Patty had gone.
After Phyllis left, Jack and Diane discussed the odd closeness between Matt and Phyllis. They also realized they had only read Patty's note and had not opened the gift. When they opened it, they found stuffed Mr. Kitty waiting for them.
Back Into Life

Victor and Nikki enjoyed a pleasant breakfast at the ranch discussing business. Victor was so impressed with his wife taking on a whole new company to run. They were thrilled when Nick appeared, fresh from rehab and ready to get back to work. He also planned to visit his kids and show them how well he was doing.
After Victor left the room to take a call, Nikki had a talk with her son. She was worried that he wasn't ready to be home and resume his normal life yet. Nikki knew from experience how hard it could be. Nick thanked his mother for her support, but was sure that he was ready. In fact, he was more than ready to be a part of the outside world again.
Soon, it was Victor's turn for a talk, so Nikki left the room. Victor said he would support Victoria if she thought that Nick should return to work, but he had his reservations and wondered if Nick was ready for the stress. Nick decided to test things out, so he paid Victoria a visit at the tack house.
Nick Makes the Rounds

Victoria was pleased to see Nick looking so well. He thanked her for staying away because he hadn't wanted his sister to see him. Nick finally asked Victoria if he could come back to work. He felt he was ready, even if their father did not.
He explained that rehab helped him, as did Marie. She called him out on his hero complex, which he had needed. Marie made him see that he had to focus on himself. Victoria finally agreed to let Nick return as long as he agreed to take things slow.
Nick's next stop was Crimson Lights to see Adam. Nick thanked his brother for his support. Adam admitted he was impressed with Nick and proud of him. When Adam was gone, Sharon noted how nice it was to see the Newman brothers getting along with one another.
Then, things got tense. Matt showed up and took it as a good thing to see Nick. That meant he was out of rehab. However, he was leaving town because he knew he could never convince them that he had changed, so there was no point in sticking around. Before they could get much further in this exchange, Phyllis appeared at the door. Matt stared at her. She stared at him. And Sharon and Nick had no idea what might happen next.
What is Patty really up to? Are Matt and Phyllis perfect for each other? Is it way too soon for Nick to return to work? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
