Y&R Recap September 24: Matt Spots Kyle at the Motel, Traci Talks Sense Into Billy

On the Thursday, September 24, 2026, episode of The Young and the Restless, Traci gave Billy some advice, Claire had questions, and Matt saw someone he wasn't supposed to see.

After their evening at The Shadow Room, Billy and Sally arrived home in a great mood, ready for some romance. Billy made Sally her favorite non-alcoholic drink as they continued to dance. When Jill called, Billy didn't want to pick up, but Sally forced him to talk to his mother. But it was too late and Jill didn't even leave a message.

Billy didn't want to talk about his mother anymore, but Sally refused, reiterating that she wanted Jill at the wedding and refused to argue about this further. She didn't want her good night to be ruined, so she decided to just go to bed. Once Billy was alone in the living room, Traci appeared.

Billy knew right away that his sister wasn't there just to catch up. Sally must have called her to talk some sense into him about Jill. Billy admitted that he wasn't sure what to do. He didn't want tension at the wedding, but was sure that was what would happen if Jill were to attend.

Traci understood, but pointed out that Dina wasn't always there for big life events, which was hurtful. Billy had a mom who wanted to be there to watch her son get married. Billy didn't see the situation as being the same, but Traci disagreed. They both had parents who hurt them, but they could control how they acted because of it.

Traci also did what Cane did and reminded Billy that his mother was older and not in good health. She might not ever be able to hold her grandchild if Billy doesn't soften. After Traci left, Sally emerged from the bedroom and watched Billy call Jill. Billy was blunt and told Jill he wasn't sure he wanted her there, but she could come if she didn't cause trouble. Sally knew that was a hard thing for Billy to do, but she was proud.

Rendezvous Time

Rather than meeting with Kyle at the Riverbank Motel, Victoria went shopping with Claire to cheer her daughter up. Claire was in a great mood, grateful for her mother, even if it wasn't always easy to get over an ex. Victoria nearly panicked and asked Claire if she was over Kyle. Claire insisted she was, but wondered if Victoria was over Billy. After all, it had to be weird to go to an ex's wedding.

Victoria didn't feel weird about it at all, oddly enough. But she did feel weird when Claire started to ask her mother about dating prospects. Victoria didn't have much of a chance to answer her because Holden sent a text, causing Claire to run into the other room. Once alone, Victoria thought about Kyle and Claire's advice to find a man who appreciated her.

At the Abbott mansion, Kyle and Jack discussed Billy's bachelor party, but Kyle couldn't stop thinking about Victoria. Kyle tried to remain with the conversation as Jack waxed nostalgic about Billy and how Sally seems to have tamed his brother. In fact, Jack had never seen Bill so grounded. He was thrilled that Bill had found Sally.

As they chatted some more, Kyle received a text from Victoria asking to meet up at their favorite motel, where she would make it worth his while. Kyle made a quick exit, telling Jack that he had to meet with his fitness instructor. That's one way of putting it.

At the Motel

It's been about three days since Matt called Phyllis and asked her to meet him at the motel, but she finally made it on Thursday, the same day in Genoa City time. Phyllis wondered if Matt was just going to say goodbye again, but Matt had something else in mind. He thought Phyllis was amazing and his best friend. Matt asked what would happen if Phyllis just ran away into the sunset with him. She could work remotely.

Matt wasn't being serious, of course. He told Phyllis that she had to stay in GC if she were ever to reconcile with her kids. Matt knew that Phyllis' kids would never accept a hot mess like him. Phyllis was exasperated at this point and wondered if she was a glutton for punishment. She once again warned Matt not to run off with Patty because he would die.

In another room, Victoria and Kyle enjoyed their tryst. When they lay in bed afterwards, Victoria wondered where her spicy surprise was. Kyle didn't have time to prepare for it since this meet-up was so last minute and spontaneous. But he was in charge of the next time they met and he'd be ready this time. Victoria wondered if the surprise involved ice cubes, but Kyle would only say that it didn't involve food.

After they arranged another date for the next day, Kyle said he would text her with all the details as he prepared to leave. When Kyle walked out, he and Matt spotted one another and stared. Uh-oh.

A forlorn Phyllis left the hotel and headed for The Shadow Room to see Daniel. When she asked her son if he'd miss her if she left GC, Daniel immediately knew that Matt had asked her to run away with him. Phyllis defended Matt again and said that he accepted her. Daniel reminded his mother that Lauren, Michael, and Sharon also accepted her, but Phyllis said it was different with Matt.

Daniel told Phyllis that he loved her, but she had to make her own decisions. He wouldn't stop her if she wanted to leave town with Matt, but he wanted her to stay because Genoa City was her home. Phyllis admitted that it sure didn't feel like it.
