Y&R Recap September 29: Victor Surprises Nikki, Diane Declares War

On the Tuesday, September 29, 2026, episode of The Young and the Restless, Victor got romantic, Diane got angry, and Phyllis was on a tear, as always.

Diane was not happy to learn that Jack had called Nick and was going to meet with him for lunch at the GCAC and offer to be his sponsor. Diane has been against this from the start and was still against it, telling Jack that she feared it would trigger his own addiction.

Jack had to explain that this was the whole point of sponsorship: addicts helping other addicts recover and stay clean. Diane wondered what Victor would think of this turn of events, considering how he felt about Jack.

When Nikki walked into the living room at the Ranch, she spied Victor quickly hanging up the phone and accused him of being up to something sneaky, as he is often apt to be. Victor admitted that Nikki was correct. He was indeed up to something, but it was a surprise she didn't need to ruin.

Nikki tried to take Victor's word for it and leave for work, but Victor stopped her and told her about the incident with Matt the night before. Victor assured his wife that Matt was leaving town for good this time and taking Patty Williams with him.

Victor insisted to Nikki that he had made it clear to Matt that he'd "deal with him once and for all" if he ever set foot in Genoa City again. Nikki was skeptical and worried about what Phyllis might do. She had to be plotting something.

Later, Diane and Nikki ran into one another at Society and sparred. Diane couldn't help but to tease Nikki about Vibrante, as Diane secretly planned a Valentine's Day counterattack. Diane picked fun at Nikki for running to Jack every time she needed any advice. Nikki told Diane she was just jealous and could feel how much competition she would be.

The ladies also argued about Jack, but business was their main topic. Nikki was sure that Diane was underestimating her. Diane said she would defend what was hers, so Nikki had better watch out. Nikki knew that Diane was talking about Jack and not Jabot.

Later, when Nikki arrived home, she was surprised to see what Victor had arranged. He had bought her a gift, a beautiful chain with a 'V' and a crown, to signify that Nikki was now the Queen of Cosmetics. Nikki was touched and more determined than ever to make Vibrante a success.

Diane wasn't as pleasant as Nikki when she returned to the Abbott mansion. Jack wanted to foster peace between them, but Diane was ready for an all-out war.

Tension at the Genoa City Athletic Club

At the GCAC, Phyllis offered Cane good money for his real estate properties, which she claimed should have been hers to begin with. Cane wanted to know what Phyllis' goal was, so she explained that she wanted Cane's properties because they held historical value.

Cane quickly took off when he spotted Nick, who asked Phyllis what the heck was going on. Phyllis felt judged again and defended herself. They were talking business. That was all. Nick realized he had done exactly what Phyllis accused everyone of doing and apologized for jumping to negative conclusions.

Phyllis was still stuck on Matt, the first man who had made her feel valued and who had truly seen her in years. Then, all the self-righteous and hypocritical citizens of Genoa City drove him right out of town. Nick told Phyllis that he and Victor had seen Matt the night before and he was indeed gone.

Matt even tried to get Nick and Victor to give her a second chance, which they were doing by allowing her to run Arabesque. Phyllis was grateful for that, but wasn't going to give away any of her trade secrets. The topic turned to Cane and whether Phyllis could trust the man, but they didn't get far because Nick's lunch "date" arrived.

When Phyllis saw Jack, she said her goodbyes and left Jack and Nick to talk. Jack and Nick sat down at the bar in earnest to discuss addiction. Nick was adjusting to life on the outside and was happy to be back at work. Jack offered to be Nick's sponsor, but also knew how Victor felt about things.

Nick was going to do things his way and might not want an official sponsor, but he wouldn't mind being able to come to Jack for advice when he needed it. After their meeting, Cane appeared in the bar again, in time for Nick to tell him to stay away from Phyllis.

Shadow Room Confessions

When Christine stopped by the Shadow Room to pick up her husband, she ended up spending time talking to Daniel, who was worried about his mother. She had actually considered leaving town with Matt Clark. Christine was just fine with Phyllis leaving town, but she understood why Daniel didn't want her to do it with Matt Clark, of all people.

Daniel noted how selfish Phyllis was and knew she couldn't stay away from Genoa City for good even if she had wanted to. "She just doesn't seem to care about the people that she loves that she hurts," he said.

Phyllis was her own worst enemy and always has been, but that didn't mean that Daniel didn't love her. After Daniel walked off, Phyllis appeared and made comments about "the Bug."

Christine sighed and let Phyllis know how happy she and Danny were. Phyllis was further agitated to learn that Daniel was working there and hadn't told her. That meant Daniel even accepted a job from his dad when he refused to accept one from his mom. Christine felt fantastic gloating about all of this. After Christine left, Phyllis declared she was going to stick around and be with the people who loved her, especially her son.
