Y&R Recap September 3: Phyllis and Matt Target Sharon With a Wild Plan

On the Thursday, September 3, 2026, episode of The Young and the Restless, Phyllis came up with a crazy new scheme, Daniel and Mariah caught up, Kyle made plans, and Nick had multiple visitors.

Catching Up

When Daniel spotted Mariah sitting reading her tablet at the Chancellor Park cafe, he said a quick hello and then tried to make a quick retreat. Mariah stopped him and asked him to sit down. Although the situation felt a bit awkward, the pair made some small talk.

Mariah fills her days with being a mom to Aria, but she was not quite ready to get back to work. But things were going great with her and Tessa. Mariah had even seen a video of her performing with Daniel and thought they sounded fantastic together. Mariah finally got serious and told Daniel that she understood if something happened with him and Tessa while she was away.

Daniel admitted that he and Tessa had been going through a rough time and needed one another, but he was glad she was back where she belonged with Mariah. That didn't mean that he didn't miss Tessa. Mariah didn't see why Daniel and Tessa couldn't be friends and even suggested that he call Tessa because she likely missed him too.

Even Lucy was pushing for Daniel to move on with his life and date again, but he wasn't even sure where to start. Mariah suggested he just focus on his music. Maybe he and Tessa could even play at The Shadow Room. Mariah and Daniel left one another on a good note. "One step at a time," Daniel said.

They both agreed to start living again and honor Cassie's memory.

Phyllis Tells Lies

When Adam ran into Phyllis at the GCAC eating her breakfast, he asked her if she had managed to track down Matt. Phyllis lied and said she had not, before launching into yet another speech about how everyone was wrong about Matt and she was the only one who was right.

Adam just assumes that Phyllis only wants Matt around to get revenge on Victor. Phyllis took offense to that and said that she was in love with Matt and didn't need a man to help her do that anyway.

Later, Phyllis met with Matt at the Riverside Motel and gave him a hot kiss. Matt was fine with Phyllis taking on the challenge if she thought he could be redeemed. Phyllis implied that she's worked with worse. Phyllis thought that he could make friends of the people he had wronged, whom he did not see as his enemies. That would be the first step in getting people to see that he had changed.

Phyllis proved that she was on Matt's side when she told him that she had already lied about knowing where he was. "Why? Why would you do that? Why would you laugh about me?" a perplexed Matt asked.

The two knew they had to come up with a plan to show that Matt was different. What if he saved her life? Phyllis wasn't sure anyone would even care about her.

He could save someone close to the Newman clan. Nikki wasn't blind anymore, so that was out. They couldn't even stage an ice- or snow-related accident. But what about Sharon? Phyllis cared about her and didn't want to see her hurt, but she would make sure nothing bad really happened. This would be perfect. Matt was hesitant, but Phyllis thought this was an amazing idea. "After everything that you did to her, this is how you're going to prove yourself," Phyllis said.

All About Matt...For Nick

Sharon showed up at rehab while a bored Nick and Marie were playing cards. Nick introduced the two ladies in his life to one another. Nick also tried to remain positive that they could both get out and start their lives anew soon.

After Marie left the rec room, Sharon told Nick she was really there to talk about Matt and Phyllis, because this was just what Nick needed to hear about right now.

After Sharon left, Marie returned and asked questions about Nick's ex-wives. Marie couldn't imagine a man like him being single. Nick knew he was never single for very long. Before they could say much more, Adam became Nick's next visitor. Marie took that as her cue to leave once again.

The two brothers shared a few close moments. Adam was angry at himself for letting things get too far with Nick, but Nick was grateful for Adam keeping an eye on things while he was gone. "You, with all this remorse, are freaking me out, so knock it off," Nick said.

And then came Phyllis' obsession with Matt because that's what everyone wants to bother Nick about while he was in rehab. But Nick was game to talk about it. He thought Phyllis was insane and hoped they could find Matt before she did. Adam shocked Nick further when he told him that Phyllis claimed to be in love with Matt.

Back at Crimson Lights, Sharon informed Mariah that Matt had a friend at rehab. She didn't seem very happy about it.

Playful Flirting...or More?

When Victoria spotted Kyle coming toward her on the Crimson Lights patio, she tried to wave him away, but Kyle wasn't going anywhere. Instead, he sat down by her where they discussed their Vibrante PR strategy. Victoria reveled in the idea of hurting Jabot.

Kyle noted that Jabot made some great foundation, as evidenced by her fantastic skin. Kyle poured on the flirt when he showed Victoria the earring she had left in the office last week. Kyle didn't know why they said they couldn't ever work late again. Was it really so bad? He'd even get her a refill, if she so desired.

Finally, Kyle needed to leave, but Victoria couldn't help but smile to herself when he was gone. Later, Kyle returned and suggested they meet at the Riverside Motel. Who might they run into?
