The Young and the Restless recap for Wednesday, June 24, sees Nikki's health battle take a frightening turn as her symptoms become harder to ignore. Elsewhere, Claire makes a difficult decision, Matt puts himself out there with Phyllis, and Nick faces another test in his recovery.
Matt Wants Redemption

Noah was wrapping up some business at The Shadow Room, but Matt wanted to speak with him. Noah had zero interest in striking up a conversation with Matt. After everything he put Noah and his family through, Matt was lucky that Noah didn't slam him into the bar and smash a bottle over his face.
Noah accused Matt of attempting to repair his relationship with Sienna, which was completely off the table. However, Matt was not there with any intention of doing that. Instead, Matt confessed to pursuing Noah as a means to get to Nick and Sharon. He even claimed that he still liked Noah, but Noah wasn't interested in anything else.
Noah didn't think Matt was redeemable in any way, and he made it known that he'd kill him himself if he ever crossed the line again. Matt vowed that he wasn't the same monster that committed the heinous atrocities from the past. Noah refused to believe that Matt's supposed reformation into an upstanding citizen was legitimate.
Matt asked Noah to give him a chance to prove that he had changed, and as usual, Phyllis walked in during another showdown between Matt and someone in Genoa City. Phyllis immediately dove into a conversation/interrogation about Summer and if she'd return to Genoa City and if she knew Matt had returned the company to Victor.
Phyllis was desperate to repair things with her daughter, and Matt made everything worse by asking to speak with her alone. Noah was appalled that Summer's mother would give someone like Matt a second chance after being clued in about his violent past.
Matt and Phyllis relocated to the GCAC to discuss Matt's struggle to balance his emotions since becoming a new man. He was walking a fine line between the man he was now and the man he used to be. Matt completely shifted gears and asked Phyllis if she'd be open to going on a real date with him.
Phyllis couldn't believe it at first, but Matt was serious. Phyllis was willing to give him a genuine second chance, and her personality captivated him from the moment they first met. Even though she attacked him, he felt as if there was more substance to her, and he knew that he came with a lot of baggage. However, he wanted her to set that aside and go to dinner and explore things.
Nikki Loses Control

Victor demanded to know what was truly going on with Nikki and her health, but Victoria and Claire refused to give him any information. Nikki was in charge of who was in the know about her medical situation, and they didn't want to violate her trust.
Nikki spotted her family gathering together, and she assured Claire that she had no issues with her attempts at playing matchmaker. Nikki wanted to move on, but she had no plans on sticking around to hang out with Victor. She wanted to get some fresh air, but before she could leave, Victor once again pleaded with his family to come clean.
Claire repeatedly apologized for violating Nikki's trust and telling Victor about her headaches. However, Nikki accused Victor of just wanting to control the situation and bully everyone into submission. She didn't believe any of his concerns were valid**, and** after rejecting Victor's attempt to get through to her, she stormed away.
Once Nikki was gone, Victor pointed out that her visceral reaction to him was her own fear seeping out. She was terrified, and this was her way of scrambling for some semblance of control. Victor made a final attempt to convince Claire and Victoria to disclose what they knew about Nikki's medical issue.
After everyone was gone, Claire explained that she wished to tell Victor everything, but she couldn't do that to Victoria and Nikki. She was asked to keep quiet, and she wanted to honor that. Holden arrived at the club and noticed that Claire was in distress.
Claire later returned to the ranch after thinking about the ordeal involving Nikki. She was ready to deliver the whole truth to her grandfather, even if it was against the wishes of Nikki. Claire told Victor everything about the mass and how dire things were.
Nikki and Victoria went to Chancellor Cafe, and Nikki was furious that Victoria told Claire about the mass on her optic nerve. She apologized, but she considered herself a burden to her daughter.
The only condition she placed on Victoria moving forward was to keep Victor in the dark. She was tired of her husband dictating everything about her life. Everything changed when Nikki suffered another massive headache, followed by a near-complete loss of vision.
Nick Faces Temptation

At Crimson Lights, Sharon and Nick briefly discussed Aria, but it wasn't long before the conversation turned to all of the issues plaguing Nick. He was still in the throes of his addiction, and even though he was attending meetings, it wasremaining quite difficult for him to manage.
Nick was able to view his mother in a different light now that he'd attended meetings for himself. He only spoke at the one meeting that he went to alongside Nikki, but he was committed to listening. At his latest meeting, someone showed up high on drugs, which was an unsettling experience.
Sharon wrestled with watching Nick completely collapse emotionally under the weight of his addiction. Nick wanted to stop thinking about his recovery and focus his energy on Newman Enterprises. Now that they had the family company back, he wanted to put his time and energy into that.
Sharon took a call from Mariah, and as she stepped away, Nick spotted his previous drug dealer outside on the patio. Nick declined the man's offer, and he told the dealer to vacate Crimson Lights as quickly as possible. However, Noah spotted the man and Nick after their contentious face-off, and he wanted to know if his father knew him.
Nick told Noah the truth about how he knew the dealer, which was a step in the right direction. The struggle was far more than he ever realized, though. It wasn't day by day. It was minute by minute, and he was always mere moments away from slipping back into the void of the drugs.
